Do people think they will talk about hardware much during this? Or go over the specs? I thought this was supposed to be a kind of "Spike TV" type reveal or whatever. I doubt they would go into any detail on the power of the system to the general public.

this ain't 2005 anymore. People are not retarded

If there is a company that has the money to blow its microsoft to do this.
But i imaging they would have multiple teams/prototype fighting shit out with different hardware specs. And gave devs the lowest specced hardware. And force them to work via an API so they don't loose progress when they decide to bump up to better hardware.
They can always allow code to the metal after release when cpu and gpu has been finalized.

Yup, MS is doing a bait and switch with the leaked specs. The reveal is going to be amazing, the crow, the tears.

it's unknown really. think we'll all be very disappointed if they dont and overall i'm actually pretty optimistic they will.

anyways we'll also be able to judge a lot from how the games look in any case.

damn. i don´t give a s*** about MS console, but i am sad already to miss this event going down live here tomorrow. Have fun everyone. I bet there will be just a marginal visible difference between firstgen games of ps4 and xbox now/infinity... in 2 years the graphic prowess will be more visible i guess.

Nevertheless.. open the gates. After this, there should be a flood of developer news be around. And than there is the E3.. *giddy*.

New tech smell is in the air.

Like that early morning sweet smell of napalm.

@derFeef
31 and a bit now....but who's counting :]

They were originally going to show it in April, but moved it to May. Most likely due to hardware spec change.

Judging by Major Nelson's timer before PS4 reveal, they originally wanted to show everything at E3.

Most likely Sony took them by surprise and forced them to take action earlier than expected.

Moving the event from April to May was probably due to difficulties in organizing such a massive event in a short period of time.

Not true. They didn't have hardware ready in time, and they saw what Sony did with the PS4 and lack of console and changed plans. They want to show hardware tomorrow.

Well if they didn't have the hardware ready in time, that's even more evidence that they increased the hardware specs. Good time to be an Xbox fan.

There are also rumors sony followed microsoft just beat them with the reveal.

I think that has more to do with software i think if they planned to do it at E3.
A reschedule of 2 months is a fast amount of time.
So delaying it to may give the studio a bit more time.

I do expect to see less games then the sony presser.

TBH I think Sony surprised themselves.

I don't know about the specs (although I'd say it's likely they'll release them to press even if they're not detailed during the event), but we'll probably get to learn some things about the hardware.

Aaron Greenberg said:
People are going to get a great inside look at really the making of the new platform and the team that's brought it to life. I mean, to be honest, it's really about the team, the people here. That's why we're inviting people to campus, we're going to bring them behind the scenes a little bit. We've never done this before and so it's really exciting to be able to do that.

Suggesting that Sony's briefing has had any bearing on the MS reveal is complete nonsense.

The 1 thing that has been apparent throughout the year (Orth gate , the always online stuff) is that Microsoft is confident in their own own chosen strategy for the console.

AFAIK initial runs of hardware were scheduled for late April so they'd miss the original unveil. They switched from Los Angeles to Redmond and gave the team an extra month because Sony's event wasn't crazy and spectacular.

It's all build up for E3 anyways. Tomorrow they'll do 1hr and then pause for 1hr and hold a panel. There will be other bits later in the day too, but it's not gonna be a super long keynote.

They said they would wait for Microsoft, they didn't show the console, some of the third party content was recycled from previous events, they couldn't confirm which features would actually be available at launch, even some of Sony's own people seemed surprised by the 8 GB GDDR5 announcement, Yoshida's answer to the used games question was peculiar etc etc. There are quite a few things indicating that Sony's reveal event was rushed ahead of its original schedule, but just like your Microsoft related speculation, it can't really be confirmed.

Compared to MS, Sony looks desperate and unorganized. It's gonna get worse once MS reveals the Xbox hardware, software, services. When the games are shown and they look vastly better than PS4's games because of the superior hardware, the crow will be served marinated in tears.

Probably crossing into *trying too hard* territory now

Since the last Xbox debuted in 2005, Microsoft has produced multiple prototypes for a new console and experimented with different technologies for it, said people familiar with the matter. The company has looked at streaming games from far-away servers to the latest Xbox; sending recorded videos of game exploits on the Web from the console; and including various television technologies, these people said.

I think that's a little harsh. Sony have done well in the first party department, and their PS+ service is actually very good. It's true though that most of what Sony does is reactionary to what MS does.

Kinect ---> PS Eye
Xbox LIVE --> PS+
Xbox S ---> PS Slim

I just can't wait for the next gen viel to be removed finally!

lol. Your cracking me up.

He wants tears. If it's not going to from everyone else then it's gonna be from him, either way tears will be shed tomorrow.

I'll have tears either way, either tears of joy or tears of anger. But I believe in MS

No you are being irrational dude! Xbox 720 gonna be weaker than the Ps4 for sure. And there are maybe going to be shown only 2 or 3 games outside of Ghosts.

Based on what? leaks that haven't been confirmed by MS? Just wait till tomorrow.

The world has moved on, he said, "We can't just continue to be a great purveyor of hardware products, even though some people expect us to do that."

We really need to buckle down and be realistic," said Mr. Hirai, who plans a news conference Thursday. "I don't think everybody is on board, but I think people are coming around to the idea that if we don't turn this around, we could be sitting in some serious trouble."

Kazuo Hirai 2012

like i said Angelus Errae irony (:D) or not....sony really look desperate and unorganized

Some people will rightfully argue that Pseye is not reactionary to kinect , since it was available before it as a sequel to the eye toy. The Move feels reactionary to the wiimote, though.
