Awful. I used to drive through Moore fairly frequently. I hope they can get to survivors quickly and get them out.

A mile-wide tornado? I didn't know those things even existed. That's crazy, and I can't imagine what those people are going through right now.

wow at the picture. Doesn't help that a lot of American houses seem to be built with mostly wood.

I really dont get how this is allowed. How do the insurance companies cover wooden homes like this?

You couldnt pay me to live in tornado country in a wooden house.

Moore has the worst luck. They should have built concrete houses after the second time this happened.

Pretty sure that wouldn't help though.

Concrete walls were destroyed by this tornado.

I don't think people understand how destructive 200mph+ winds are...

holy fuck....condolences to those affected.

Shouldn't there be building codes for homes in this kind of area though to minimize this? Or maybe there's no way you can really protect yourself from this kind of destruction

I couldn't imagine. We had tornados go past our house. They sound like a train. I heard that rumble and man I almost wanted to get into my car and drive. Serious nature will put that animal fear into you.

A mile wide...I know people couldn't get away in time. I just hope there wasn't too many lives lost or too much suffering.

The homes will all have basements (or most of them), but not much can stand up to sustained 200mph winds.

As a reminder, actual atomic bombs killed 90,000–166,000 people in Hiroshima and 3 days later 60,000–80,000 in Nagasaki.

I prefer not to compare anything to atomic bombs.

Pretty much every building in the town would need to be rebuilt practically if they did.

Being underground. I used to live in a house that was 90% underground, and we never had to do anything during tornado season.
