I work with a colleague in Canada that was born in Porto Alegre. He’s got family members and friends over there that lost everything. No insurances, no government help most likely.

Even though it is not common, home insurance is relatively cheap in Brazil.

The median in home insurance value is about less than 100 usd/year in the country.
