But those extras are too good for me to pass up. The art book most especially. Akihiko Yoshida is my favorite squeenix artist.

I'm all over this.
I convinced my friends to buy the original Final Fantasy XIV collectors addition so we could get a head start. Which quickly turned into a weekend filled with meltdowns!)
I'll never forget my friend trying to escape a monster horde, which he surely could have done, if not for lagging in and out of combat mode! I thought he would break my glass table
This looks much much better!

I hope Amazon offers the CE for pre-order soon. I'd much rather order it from there. If not then I'll just have to go with Digital River again

I really like the CE but MMO subscriptions =/
No one has really experienced the meat of the game yet, only a taste of limited beta content. Its wise for SE to open up pre orders before beta phase 3, which will actually show what the game has to offer. To be honest it's just another generic MMO with a final fantasy feel to it.
The majority of MMOs today that offer a sub don't require a sub. So, yes, it's pricey, especially considering it won't be doing anything new.
Will be returning for it, been watching closely and it's looking great.

This will actually be my first MMO I own. I played FFXI for the 360 and couldn't get into it because my young self had little patience for games like that. lol
Yup think I will pre order the standard edition just for the pre-order items.
FWIW The 1.0 CE had a cool box art image also.

Snazzy. Though I wasn't impressed with PS3 footage I saw a couple weeks ago. Plus I'm a one MMO guy, currently playing WoW.

That's what I was wondering too and I think that the answer is in the question: pre-order items, so I would say yes Legacy would need to pre-order the game to get the codes. No?
Not sure there seems to be some confusion regarding the pre-order items. I am gonna say no but don't quote me on that. When you pre-order you get your serial key and you can download a pdf which links you to a registration page with those items listed (can't register your copy yet though).
Yes you would need to unless you are a Legacy member then you would get in early as well.

I never got into FFXI or the original FFXIV. It was mainly because I couldn't justify paying a monthly fee for something that I wouldn't play frequently. I'm really impressed with the upgrades they've made with this version and I have friends who are already playing via the beta. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted.

Not clear yet although the site says that the CE is limited quantity (you can only pre-order max 2 copies) so I am assuming the regular edition would be in store. Maybe major retailers will get a few but I am not sure. I know in my area the original CE was very hard to find in store and very limited quantity.
You just go into your SE account and hit cancel it is very simple.
Thanks, that's what I was expecting really.
Because nobody's really had proper time with the game I may leave it a couple of months to see what people think of it and because games of this type are almost guaranteed to be a right mess at launch.

Yea I don't think you even need to register any card details til your month is up, at least from what I remember.
That being said the FFXIV account page is a jumbled mess, it can be perplexing for first timers lol.
