Can the GAF servers handle E3?

A shitty Nintendo direct took out GAF. There's no chance it will survive the press conferences. Sucks because I actually remember a time when it was able to.

Honestly, they should revise the GIF. Change all subtitles to first day only.

Also I would like to add that they got rid of "Quote" feature since I don't see it in User CP anymore so I guess they are trying to prepare for the worst.

My memory might fail me but I don't think gaf servers have survived major confs in the last few years at least. After the Xbone conf I don't expect to be able to post or read posts during the E3 keynotes, can't see the site holding up and don't want to get annoyed about it. I will watch the keynotes and subsequent GT commentary, and then return to gaf a few hours later to discuss.

As long as Search and Avatars are offline, and Off-Topic is closed, GAF seems to be handling E3 just about.
Only Search and Quote-thingy was offline for Xbone reveal so things were difficult.

Nice!

I'm probably going to double the size of the server array temporarily for E3 week. Can't ever guarantee anything, especially with the insane traffic spiking these days, but a best effort will be made. The Xbone conference was too one-off to make hardcore preparations along those lines, and on top of that hitting 36k concurrent users was more than a little surprising.

I do believe NeoGAF will employ the power of Cloud to survive E3.

Mastered Final Attack + Phoenix, Mastered Knights of the Round + MP Absorb, Mastered Knights of the Round + HP Absorb

VICTORY IS GUARANTEED

No seriously, the Big 3 having conferences on one day is going to be insane.

Switch to GDDR5. I hear that is mighty fast RAM.

When it comes to big conferences or announcements, I don't even bother with Gaf. A piece of paper would shut down the servers. No way will they be up during E3. I just wait an hour or two after to log in and see everyone's reactions.

All those articles about you and neogaf musta brought in a lot of new peeps. If the servers will hold up for E3, neogaf records might be broken.

That's a little bit silly. Would you agree that the servers are running fine now? And generally run fine? There's about 10k users on right now. It's just that the increase during big events is much larger than is usually necessary to handle what we get on a day-to-day basis.

Yeah, my post is in regards to any event type situation. On a regular basis they run smooth as butter. Sucks for people who want to get on here and discuss during those times, but its also good seeing the site grow in popularity.

Wow, that is pretty amazing. Does concurrent users mean just members or is that the stat for members + lurkers?

I know I remember seeing close to 17k members browsing Gaming at one point.

Bumping this thread to ask a question. Is the search archiving or whatever it is called disabled in preparation for E3? Can't find any threads posted today using search.

So.. E3 is less than 24 hours away, hopefully GAF survives.. But I doubt it will!

Is it possible to block non registered users from the site..? :P

That's what I thought also. Just let members logged in view threads during peak times. It's the guests that kill it.

Come on Evilore, tap GAF into the infinite power of the cloud. GAFfers get to rejoice for it not crashing and Microsoft can use this as free advertisement for the POWER OF THE CLOUDSSS!!!!!

36k. FUCK. Probably hit 50k+ for E3 then.

Because of all the DRM stuff, I think more people will be watching than normal.
