Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Collector's Edition revealed, releasing August 27th

Guess I'll be ordering from the SE store since I want the PC CE :( Why is this happening >.<

Wait... it says cross platform play...

Can I just order the PS3 version on amazon and then download the PC version from their website and play it on PC? is that how it works?

FFXI worked that way if you had a way to install the game (I don't believe they ever offered a client download unless you bought keys directly from them. HOWEVER, I believe they have been on record saying that you need a PS3 key to play the PS3 version even if you already have the PC version registered to your SE account.

EDIT:
Logging into the Same Account on both Windows and PlayStation 3
Customers who own a copy of FFXIV version 1.0 and wish to use their account on the PlayStation 3 version will need to purchase a copy of the PlayStation 3 version. It will then be possible to use your characters on either platform by tying your existing service account to the PlayStation 3 version upon launching it for the first time. However, please note that your account will only be able to log into one platform at a time.

It doesn't specifically say if this applies vice versa but I wouldn't be surprised.

God, their PS3 information is so confusing. Does that mean only one account can play on a sony account (i.e. one account per PS3)?

It sounds like it's not like XI - you'll need to authorize each platform to connect to the account.

So you can't buy it on PS3 and borrow the PC install discs from a friend to play on PC. :\

Ouch. I was hoping to buy it once on PS3 and play it on PC. But I assume if I get the CE on PS3 and regular on PC I'll have access to all my CE benefits on both platforms? I don't wanna pay $110 for an MMO but...

I don't know, this isn't very clear. It specifically mentions if you already owned the 1.0 PC version. But if you didn't own it, what does that mean? You need to buy the game twice to play it on both platforms? But it's the same account so how does that make sense?

It's been asked a couple of times but I don't think anybody answered. Do they charge immediately if you preorder on SE's site? I'd like to preorder the digital CE, but I really can't afford to be charged at this moment.

By the way do we get 30 days free access right with our purchase?

First month free deal?

Looks like they do an authorization right away?
They already charged me...
Yep, so it is like Ni No Kuni. You should be getting the money back in a couple of days then.

I believe they charge right away because they give you your serial key for it right away. I'll be home from work in an hour if no one confirms ill check my CC for you.

Yes you get 30 days with the game.

Has it been confirmed whether or not we'll be able to use armor sets as "cosmetic"? Until I find a cooler helmet with better stats than my Paladin circlet...i'd probably rock the Warrior of light helm.

I mean just look at it! Glad they are continuing the trend of bringing accurate Amano art when possible.

They're going to add Vanity Slots after release.

I played FFXI, like a million years ago and enjoyed it.

Would I like this?

if you are jumping in expecting it to be a timesink like FFXI you'll be pretty disappointed. That said, the group play dynamics are totally different this time around, it's also much more accessible, in a way there are contents cater to hardcore and casuals.

Depends.

Are you too fond of having to struggle at every step?. Like waiting for 2hr to get a party?. Hours and hours of work to get done one simple history mission?. Losing exp when you die?. Fighting against dozens of people to claim an NM and had 0.1% of getting the item?.

If the answer to all those questions is yes, they maybe not. Otherwise you probably enjoy it.

If you don't mind using a third party vendor, Amazon has both the standard and collector's edition for sale via digital download; the preorder bonuses being included as well.

As per their policy, you will not be charged until the very moment you're able to download/redeem your product.

That said, here's a link for convenience.

Oh! I was under the impression that it was exclusive to their store, but I guess that's just the physical PC CE.

Yes, you have to buy it again.

Strange, I don't remember them doing that for FFXI. And they don't seem to explicitly state that. Just that if you want to play it on PS3 and already own the PC version you'll have to buy it on PS3. But they don't say anything about the reverse situation.

So like, did Square actually say you have to rebuy it on PC if you buy it on PS3?

It's going to be really hard not to buy this game, even though I swore off MMOs.

I'm not sure they said that, but all points to being that the case.

It's really basically a whole new game. I would recommend giving the open beta a shot when it starts.

I wonder when they're gonna start sending invites for Phase 3. Been checking my e-mail every day. lol. Trying to get the PS3 beta because my laptop will not handle it.

is there another closed beta period before the open beta starts? I did apply a few months ago but haven't been selected yet.

Phase 3 is closed beta still. Also keep in mind phase 4 is open beta so those worrying about the initial 30 days will have more time seeing as phase 4 is pretty close to the final thing. That should give more than enough time to decide how you feel.

I see nothing pointing to it honestly other than the fact that if you buy the game on PC you'll have to rebuy it on PS3 if you want to play it on PS3. But FFXI worked similarly to that. If you bought FFXI on Xbox 360 you could just get the client on PC and login and play. But if you bought it on PC you'd need to rebuy to play on a console.

Unless the PS3 and PC versions use a different account, there should be nothing stopping you from doing that on FFXIV I would think. And I would think they play on the same servers and use the same accounts otherwise how would cross platform play work?

Honestly that limit break video looks like shit. Animations and effects look weak. I'd rather bust out my charts and renkei.

Its earlier footage from before the 2.0 alpha (the benchmark alot better from what I remember), but trust me, the animations really arent weak at all. It does show a marked difference from 1.0 though. Unless you want to just check out the 2.0 PC benchmark / try to look at whats going on around the edges of the most recent Eorzea tour video.

Anyway here is a more recent video using the 2.0 PC benchmark.

What exactly do you mean by weak though? The players animations or the special effects?

I'd trade all these jobs for NIN. Where is my NIN Square? WHERE IS IT?

i felt like the blink tank spin on Ninja was very possible in the original vision of FFXIV. the focus on classes had a lot of flexibility. they've gone and sanitized the classes down into a focus on jobs now. if we do get NIN, it'll probably be quite a bit different than you remember it. a straight up blink tank would probably be very boring with hot bar gameplay.
