Oops, killed the conversation.

What's everyone going to pick as their ordinance? At least to start.

Recap of the choices:
Late Night: Stores stay open a couple hours later (some more than others), and the villagers stay awake later.
Early Bird: Stores open up a couple hours earlier (some more than others), and the villagers awake earlier in the day.
Beautiful: Less weeds and cockroaches, no trash, and no wilting flowers!
Wealthy: Most things sell for 20% more but the cost of items also increases... I don't really understand this one. I guess you could use it online if someone had a wealthy town and everyone sold their stuff there? Maybe someone else can explain this ordinance better.

Yay I'm back.

Many pages to read, not so many swapnotes received.

We can do better !

In july my town will be night owl because i'll be working 7-23 non stop all month...

Oh definitely Late Night for me. I stay up late far too often.

Like...it's 11am right now. Oops.

I like the notion of Beautiful Town except it then stops you getting the badges for weeding. And I want badges! So I'll probably leave the town at default, to be honest.

Night Owl for me. I'm usually up at night til around 4 o'clock and I mostly sleep during the day, so this Night Owl thing comes as a blessing for me.

You can unlock the other gender's hairstyles or something at some point (is what I heard).
That was great fun in Wild World.

Wii U Animal Crossing will basically be New Leaf with a couple of extra minor features.

Search your hearts, you know it to be true.
It'll take an absolutely amazing entry for me to buy on console again.

Ahh… another reason to avoid that one. Shame, because the increased frequency of hybridization is really calling to me.

Well, old time lurker here, I admit I only post on GAF on few occasions, usually in Animal crossing, harvest moon, rune factory or Endless ocean threads. (I just checked my profile, I registered in December 2009 and only have 282 posts, I'll stay a junior for a long time :D) So, I totally get if you guys don't want to add me to your 3DS friend list. Still, if some of you still have some room for me, I would be happy to play with you!

Forum name: Mekere
3DS name: Mallu
Friend code: 4640 - 0003 - 5320
Timezone: GMT+1
Town setting: Standard or Early bird

I'm way too hype for this game for my own good :p

Oh, hello! I've added you, and here's my friend code: 3222 - 6031 - 4444

I'm looking forward to it! : )

Added you! Thanks :D

@Tiggerkiddo: well, if the feeling may be somewhat similar, the gameplay is totally different.

What's similar: passing seasons, growing tree, planting stuff, fishing, enlarging your house, befriend people...

But everything else is really different. In HM you can skip days really easily while in AC a day is a real-life day. Also, you have some goals in HM, you're supposed to get married and build your farm to "win" in AC, you can decide to do.. nothing. There are no written goals, you can spend everyday in game staring at the sea if you wish to :D So, in HM you are busy because you have to, in AC you are busy because you want to. That's a major difference.

Stupid question obviously but does this share any similarities to Harvest Moon/Rune Factory?

Probably none but I just thought to ask.

Mhh some elements are familiar :money, buying improvements, socialisation with neighbours, fishing, collecting all sorts of items... but no rpg/farming elements so to speak

Thanks for the replies guys, I may give this a shot then!

Gamestop will get hell if I don't get that AC 3DSXL I have had on reserve for the longest.

lol

Speaking of hairstyles, do we have more in this game? Or just the City Folk ones?

(Also, I actually thought the bed hair looked cool as a normal style.. but all the villagers would just not shut up about it.)

I've got a big problem with this series.

The first time I played Wild World, I felt lost, every animal treated me like a stranger. The only one who accepted me since the beginning was Bob. Yeah, the neighborhood was cool, but Bob was my only friend. Time passed, animals moved to other places, but he never left the village.
Then I bought City Folk and Bob wasn't there... I waited so long but he didn't come. So I don't know if I should buy New Leaf or not, 'cause the only friend I'm searching for is Bob.

The only friend I'm searching for...

Bob is totally overrated. I had him in City Folk and he got sick. Instead of giving him medicine I used it to cure my beestings. MWHAHAHA! I'm evil

I feel your pain. My BFF in WW was Dora:

She disappeared one day without saying a word. I waited for her to return in my village, carried on my search for her in city folk.. To no avail.

I sure hope I'll be able to see her again in new leaf. Dora! If you see this message, I'm still waiting for you after all these years! Come back :'(

Oh, I didn't really know villagers can leave. That's quite foreboding. Do they ever return?

The last thing I want for them is to... leaf.

Yes they leave and it's the real fault of this game. It's good when someone you hate goes away and you get a brand new friend, but I'd like to chose wich friends I want to keep. If you don't touch the game for a month, you won't turn it on fearing you lost someone you liked.

Just don't be mean to them!

But even if they do leave, there's still cool interactions happening. They'll probably be in a friend's town, and you can go visit. And they'd talk about you with their new "owner", even showing letters if you sent them any.

Apparently, it's much easier to make villagers who want to move stay put in New Leaf. They give you lots of time to change their minds.

Once someone I like moves in... THEY ARE NEVER LEAVING.[/blood]

Also, Deep Ocean + Repel FTW

Yesssssss... Cheri, you are never leaving if you move in!

Thanks for the confirmation Vampirolol and Robin64!

Oh, but I'm not sure if I'd like that at all, especially if it were a villager I like. o_o

So does this mean that it's possible for I to get new villagers throughout the game?

Pierce left my original town.

At that point, I couldn't bring myself to play any more.

Let it be known that if I find him, I'm keeping him.

Yes, you'll get new villagers and it's a good thing. If you really take care of a villager he won't leave but sometimes it happens and you have to accept it.

Oh, I was talking about the duck's hair haha. That is interesting to see about the player's hair you posted, though!

Villagers coming and going is a part of the Animal Crossing life. Saying goodbye to a friend moving on is as much as part of life as having fun with them. And I think this is what Animal Crossing tries to show. But luckily, the ones you are nicest to are least likely to leave. ;)

I'm getting so freaking hyped for this game again. I had to stop myself from reading about it after the Japanese release because I felt like I was ruining too much and I didn't do any more research for a long time. But now that the English release is so close, I've become insatiable again.

Also, the UK commercial is way better than the US one.

That Voice made me laugh :D but i like how the game looks.
Cant Wait any longer !

;__; You've brought back some memories.

When I was ~10 years old, I read in a N64 magazine about Animal Forest - the original AC for the N64 in Japan. It was just a really tiny little info box, but I immediately loved the concept. I bugged my dad about it, saying I wanted to play that game. But we quickly discovered that it never left Japan, and never would be.

We had a GameCube back then. On my 11th birthday, my dad gave me a freeloader for the GameCube, and a NTSC copy of Animal Crossing (I'm European). The game wasn't released in Europe back then and wouldn't be until 2 years later, and I didn't know that a sequel to Animal Forest had come out in the US. It was a complete surprise for me. I couldn't be happier.

For months, YEARS, we played Animal Crossing together. My parents are divorced, and I only saw my dad once every 2 weeks. Everytime I visited, I brought my copy of Animal Crossing and we exchanged letters and played together. At some point my dad also gave me a GBA link cable so we could visit the island. We kept playing AC for around three years or so.

Bob was my biggest buddy in the game. He was my direct neighbour and I always hanged out with him. I got his portrait pretty quickly and I even modeled my house after his Nintendo-themed house.

But then, the inevitable happened. My little sister stole my copy of Animal Crossing and... started a new town. My save file was erased. Five years I had played Animal Crossing. And it was all gone. I think I cried more than I raged.

I tried starting a new town, but... it just didn't work. I resetted the game at least 30 times because I really wanted Bob back as my neighbour. But even when I got him back close to where I lived, it wasn't the same. I never played AC again after that.

After that I played Wild World but I could never really get into it, and City Folk was just crap. My final hope is for New Leaf to make me forget about all that and start enjoying a new fresh start again. The game looks really promising so I have good faith it will!

...Sorry about the rant. Animal Crossing really is dear to me. I played it my entire childhood. Nowadays I rarely see my dad - maybe twice in a year or so. Whenever I think of him, I think of Animal Crossing.

:( shit man, I feel like I'm about to cry now.

I bought the most adorable Totakeke cell phone charm on ebay. It's going straight on my Animal Crossing 3DS XL the moment I get it (assuming I can even find an AC XL without preordering).

Looks like I dodged a satsbullet.
Don't leave us sats =A=

Wonder if I should do system transfer or play the game first.
