Animal Crossing: New Leaf comes out in a month.

When I was ~10 years old, I read in a N64 magazine about Animal Forest - the original AC for the N64 in Japan. It was just a really tiny little info box, but I immediately loved the concept. I bugged my dad about it, saying I wanted to play that game. But we quickly discovered that it never left Japan, and never would be.
We had a GameCube back then. On my 11th birthday, my dad gave me a freeloader for the GameCube, and a NTSC copy of Animal Crossing (I'm European). The game wasn't released in Europe back then and wouldn't be until 2 years later, and I didn't know that a sequel to Animal Forest had come out in the US. It was a complete surprise for me. I couldn't be happier.
For months, YEARS, we played Animal Crossing together. My parents are divorced, and I only saw my dad once every 2 weeks. Everytime I visited, I brought my copy of Animal Crossing and we exchanged letters and played together. At some point my dad also gave me a GBA link cable so we could visit the island. We kept playing AC for around three years or so.
Bob was my biggest buddy in the game. He was my direct neighbour and I always hanged out with him. I got his portrait pretty quickly and I even modeled my house after his Nintendo-themed house.
But then, the inevitable happened. My little sister stole my copy of Animal Crossing and... started a new town. My save file was erased. Five years I had played Animal Crossing. And it was all gone. I think I cried more than I raged.
I tried starting a new town, but... it just didn't work. I resetted the game at least 30 times because I really wanted Bob back as my neighbour. But even when I got him back close to where I lived, it wasn't the same. I never played AC again after that.
After that I played Wild World but I could never really get into it, and City Folk was just crap. My final hope is for New Leaf to make me forget about all that and start enjoying a new fresh start again. The game looks really promising so I have good faith it will!
...Sorry about the rant. Animal Crossing really is dear to me. I played it my entire childhood. Nowadays I rarely see my dad - maybe twice in a year or so. Whenever I think of him, I think of Animal Crossing.

He finally told me go and check the billboard, something I rarely do anyway. Finally, I see his message and he was kneeling. :3 He'll be joining us on ACNL too. :3 Its his first AC I believe.

Well, old time lurker here, I admit I only post on GAF on few occasions, usually in Animal crossing, harvest moon, rune factory or Endless ocean threads. (I just checked my profile, I registered in December 2009 and only have 282 posts, I'll stay a junior for a long time

Bored of the game within a month.
"Real time" is this game's equivalent of levels in other games, so time travelling is like using a level select.

It's crazy that Nintendo don't fire you a confirm message when someone adds you as a friend. Surely that's a hell of a lot more convenient than requiring both sides to add manually?
