Scumbag Tywin.

Probably had a mischievous glint in his eye, too.

You guys should also avoid any interviews with the guy who plays Pycelle (Julian Glover, I believe). That guy just nonchalantly discusses the biggest moments in the entire series of books like it's nothing. Avoid like the plague. But then again, avoiding any GOT video on YouTube seems wise given the propensity for commenters to be idiots.

Edit: Also, on an unrelated note, anyone want to talk about their favourite characters? It's something I've never (or rarely) see in here, so I'd love to see who you're excited to see every week, who you're rooting for, etc.

It's a rather difficult choice since I think most of the characters are rather interesting in some manner (I have an interest in pretty much everybody except Bran and Jon). Most of the time, this is very situational; it depends on the plotline that character is partaking in but if I had to choose I would probably go with Stannis and Melissandre. Stannis' extremely pedantic outlook and his stern determination make him an extremely compelling character to me, particularly when combined with his slight corruption at the hands of Melissandre. The power dynamic between the two is fascinating particularly with Melissandre so masterfully manipulating him into complete submission (the last episode has made this even more compelling to me with Melissandre's "and none have seen the blade" as now there is a threat present that I hadn't considered before) while simultaneously manipulating the magic into a narrative of her own creation ("You shouldn't have this power"; paraphrasing). They compliment each other very well and both actors are extremely competant at delivering the material presented to them. It also helps that they're the most prominent magic users in the show and that "The Lord of Light" plotline is my favourite plotline in the show. Regardless of the season, all characters bend the knee to Stannis for me; it's the one location that I consistently want to see more of. I would gladly watch an entire episode of Dragonstone.

After that I'm not particularly inclined towards any characters, it really does depend on the situation that they're in. Aria is another character that I have generally enjoyed watching over the three seasons but I feel the main positive to her plotline is that she regularly meets with interesting characters (Silvio, Jaqaen, Hot Pie, the brotherhood). I haven't found her material this season very compelling for her as a character but it has remained interesting due to the brotherhood (and introducing those characters is, I'm quite sure, what her primary purpose this season has been). Sansa is a character that I hadn't particularly cared for in the first season but the actor has been consistently delivering every single scene for the last two seasons and, as a result, I've been growing interestingly interested in the character. Her material this season continues to be intriguing (honestly, it's reached the stage where absolutely everything that can go horribly tragic for her, does go horribly tragic which I guess is amusing in a rather dark way) and the actor's competence is really shining. Whereas in the first season I didn't really care for her I now look forward to every scene she's featured in. I'm sure there will be a slight respite for her now that the maneouvering is over (surely...) but as of now I find her enjoyable. The Hound seems interesting but we've seen him so little that it's very hard to make any sort of judgement and the same holds true for Jaqean and the brotherhood. The Tyrells are incredible enjoyable to watch as they masterfully manipulate those around them and Olenna and Margaery are my favourite additions this season (I know Margaery was also in the previous season but not as a regular). Tywin continues to remain intriguing and his presence is felt in every scene. Jaime and Brienne interact marvellously together. Jaime's recent characterisation, by altering our perception of him using previously known information, has been done in a logical, natural manner and gives a very large insight into his outlook (although I'm expecting him to revert immediately back once he returns to King's Landing as Tywin continues to domineer the family). I enjoy Tyrion but at the moment I don't particularly care for seeing more of his scenes; I just feel there's more interesting plotlines elsewhere.

Until Carstark was executed for murdering the Lannister children I'd found Robb rather bland but by following through on the execution he's managed to slightly regain my attention. He's in a much more interesting situation and I'm eager to see with how he deals with it. For the first time I wouldn't mind if he actually wins the war. I had become interested in Theon last season and I like the internal conflict he has/had regarding his desire to be a Greyjoy and a Stark but this season? Incredibly dull. I dread further torture seasons, not because of the gruesome material but because his scenes are moving at a glacial pace which itself wouldn't be problem if the material was compelling but it's just incredibly tedius. I'm sure there'll be some form of payoff (there better be), and as a result I understand why it must be done, but that doesn't make this less dull in the present. Varys and Littlefinger remain enjoyable and I think they work well in the sidelines. Littlefinger's monologue this season remains a highlight for me. In some ways, I don't want to see much more of them. In the spotlight I don't know if they'd be as enjoyable as they are in the background and I think this suits their characters (both being incredibly powerful, both playing the game so well that they don't draw attention to themselves). They have both been developed very well. Danaerys is... inconsistent. She was one of my favourite characters in the first season and then the second season it just felt like a complete drag and now the quality of her scenes makes me apprehensive yet hopeful although I do enjoy Jorah.

My favourite characters (well, those I want to view more of) seem to be those with some form: of stern determination, an ability to manipulate others, a connection to The Lord of Light plotline, and a connection to the politics in King's Landing (my second favourite plotlines are those that revolve around this; the Sansa situation has been my favourite character plotline thus far this season). My least favourite characters are those with some relation to the North, the Starks (Aria a large exception and Robb a very slight exception) or the Wall; I just don't have much of an interest in the characters in that area even though I can see the appeal (the strongest characters in that area I feel are Osha and Hodor), they just aren't for me.

This was probably more thorough than you wanted. It's a testament to the show and the calibur of the actors that almost every character holds my interest in some manner. Don't mistake not currently being interested in seeing more scenes for a lack of interest in the character at large though, I certainly don't expect such a vast array of characters to be constantly engaged in compelling material.

Book reader here with a friendly reminder/tip:
Don't watch any videos related to GoT. Even if it is season 1 or whatever, the comments WILL have spoilers.

Do not google search anything related to the series. This includes character names. You don't even have to finish in typing in Ned Stark's name on google to discover his fate. If you need character refreshers use the HBO guides or ask in this thread and get a non book reader to tell you about the character.

And as an addendum don't GIS anything related to the show or its characters or locations. Even if you think it's safe, it's not. Ive seen some incredibly spoilertastic images floating around in the top 10 results for even the most trivial things related to the show / books.

Nothing is safe. There is no other way to emphasize it. Twitter, tumblr, even Facebook are dangerous.

Talking about spoilers, people should stay THE FUCK AWAY from Amazon's Kindle images. They've picked some insanely spoilerific pages for their product pictures in past.
When they unveiled the Kindle White a year ago, they chose a page in ADwD with massive series spoilers. I mean there is a 1000 pages in the book and they had to choose that one. It was hilarious for me, but I know a lot of people were pissed.

Sucks even more that we have to wait an extra week for the next episode if it follows the previously established format of episode 9 being the pivotal episode of the season:

1.09 - Ned's beheading
2.09 - Blackwater battle

Whilst episode 10 has always served as the aftermath to the events of the previous ninth episode.

I can't see any major event that could happen in the next episode that hasn't already been established prior.

I mean, about halfway through season 1 we knew that Ned's time was limited.

In season two they built up the battle all throughout.

Maybe Dany will make her attempt on Yunkai?

Not quite like that; the preview post function gives a snippet of a post, and before I could jerk my eyes away when I realized it was previewing the wrong GOT thread, that millisecond was enough to ruin something big. But it doesn't matter anymore, what's done is done, now I'm just accepting the reality that I can't talk about GoT anymore ANYWHERE on the entire net.

Anyways, it's done and over with, PM me if you really want to talk about it more.

Gonna have to go cold turkey from here on in. Maybe I'll find a new show to nerd-obsess over, I hear My Little Horsy needs viewers.

Just a heads up...

A number of years ago, before I had even started reading the Harry Potter series, I had the MAJOR thing that happens at the end of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" spoiled for me. If you know Harry Potter, you know what I'm talking about.

At first I was depressed about it, but slowly as I started reading the book series I realized that knowing one single fact couldn't possibly ruin anything - I still wouldn't understand the context of the situation, etc, there was still a final book after that, and there were dozens of plot points to care about, not merely one fact.

And as it turns out, as I completed the book series, I learned that the major "spoiler" that had been ruined for me before I ever even started the series ended up meaning something completely different from what it seemed, so a character I spent the entire time reading and being hateful and suspicious of ended up being my favorite character in the whole book series in the end.

So even if you know something likes "character X and Y and Z die!", that doesn't really tell you anything for where this story is going. There are about 10 million plot points. No single sentence or two could possibly ruin such a gigantic story for you.

Obviously it sucks you saw it, but I think as you keep watching you'll probably learn that was seemed like an enormously gigantic spoiler won't ruin your enjoyment of the show as much as you thought it would.

Yeah, it's hard to see what major event is going to happen in the next episode like it might have been possible to see it the previous two seasons.

IMO Dany invading Yunkai wouldn't qualify as any sort of event to write home about though.

I'm thinking there's gotta be something bigger in the cards but I have no idea what.

Hell, maybe Bran will do something interesting for a change.

This cannot be stressed enough. There's no episode tonight yet I have 3 non-book reader fans who were spoiled this weekend by just googling to see if an ep was airing.

Ask us. I noticed the "what happened to the dragons" talk earlier. Even that WILL lead you to spoilers if you search for lore.

PREVIEW TALK:
It looks like he's going to warg the fuck out.

Yeah, I watched the preview about 10 times (lol) and noticed the following interesting things about the preview.

Looks like something interesting might happen with Robb/Catelyn camp this week. Looks like Jon Snow is going to have to have his biggest decision to make since Tormund seems to want him to help kill a fellow Crow. Stuff with Yunkai is going down and Jorah's got a fight on his hand. Bran and company look like they might be changing plans and avoiding going to Castle Black. Like you said, Bran looks like he might be warging the fuck out. We're getting a tense Arya/Hound scene. It looks like Edmure (Robb's uncle, Catelyn's brother) is probably getting married to a Frey girl. Overall it looks like our main plot this weekend will be from Jon / Bran / Robb+Catelyn / Yunkai stuff. And from the preview it definitely looks like some dramatic things are going down.

Only Blackwater was predictable, no one except book readers saw Ned's death coming. I'm expecting a shock...

I was shocked by Ned's death of course.

I'm just saying the pieces were in place (really following Episode 7 of Season 1) where we could see that something dramatic might happen.

I think that's less so this season, but like you said, I would not be at all shocked if I'm shocked by things that happen in the next episode.

Historically speaking, ep. 9 has always been a bombass/super dramatic episode followed by a fairly shocking finale. I couldn't see Nedd's execution, but I did expect something in the vein of Blackwater (if not nearly as brutal or self-contained). I have to wonder what they are planning for S3. So far it's not looking particularly exciting, and the sacking of Yunkai would feel a bit repetitive.

I feel like the sacking of Yunkai wouldn't qualify as something exciting at all.

It's gotta be something dramatic in Westoros.

And based on the preview...

Probably not something in King's Landing.

The Game of Thrones wiki is also a pretty solid resource for show only info. Not to be confused with the "A Song of Ice and Fire" wiki, which is the book wiki. The wiki only has info that has been aired.

Tower Of The Hand can also be a good resource for looking up characters, if used correctly. It has a filter to set for which books have been read. You can set it for no books read and all you'll get for character pages is what they look like (in the books) and who their parents are. Good for refreshing memory of who a character is, but little more.

I was expecting some deus ex machina. Let's say that Nedd's beheading taught me a very special lesson about GoT...

Ned was the connecting fiber for all of the characters from house Stark introduced in S1 Ep1. He is shown to be a morally righteous man in a environment of immoral people. It was kind of obvious he wasnt going to be long for the world, and that his death would spark the story lines for those connected to him.

There are very few shows that have the guts to behead their main, and most likable, character. We're conditioned to expect a last minute reprieve.

Ned's death... Unexpected. I was sure that this wasn't his head. Even when Joffrey put it on this spike in order to show it to Sansa, I think that all of it was a bad dream. Hell no though. Can't wait for the next episodes, even though friends told me what will happen.

I was seriously expecting a last minute save. That's just what TV and movies do, man.

S1E9 ended with Ned's death. S2E9 almost ended with Tyrion's death. I'm fully expecting some major shit to go down next episode.
