Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | May 2013 | Lovecraftian Wasteland

Yeah I almost didn't buy it because of the screens, then I read the description.

Passing Time is good also.

Passing Time is really great. It's good to see more quality games being released on the service. Hopefully it brings more eyes (and paying customers) to the platform.

So the last few times I have gone onto PSN and have downloaded a game the Vita basically hangs the second that I click on 'download'. If I click the home button the red minus sign pops up and it's just hanging. The only way to get out is to turn the Vita off and then once I restart and go back to the PSN store, I'm able to download it correctly. Anyone else experiencing this?

It hasn't happened to me lately but it did more than a few times a couple weeks ago. Not sure what causes it or if there's a way to prevent it.

Hey VitaGAF! I had sold my Vita to help finance my Wii U purchase last year but I have missed the little machine and have repurchased it (got a brand new Wifi Vita for $163!) as my early father's day gift.

Anyways, just wanted to say hi.

Is there a way to connect the Vita YouTube app to the PS3 one, similar to smartphones? I have no way to watch playlists on the PS3 app and would love to use the Vita app as a means to watch them.

Also, what's with the slowdown on the Vita OS? I used my Vita for the first time in months and updated only to get random freezes and frame drops in the OS. What's the deal with that?
Anybody...?

Is the Vita version of Blazblue Continuum Shift Extend any good?
I was looking for something like Persona 4 Arena to play on Vita and that probably seems like the closest thing.
Also the Amazon page for it says that it includes the original game's story but I looked on the PSN store and it just said it's a recap, does anyone know what that actually entails?

If you're in North America then wait a bit, it's scheduled for PS+.

The port is very good, it's basically the exact same thing as the PS3 version. The loading times are HORRIBLE though, in keeping with the spirit of most launch Vita games.

The recap is provided as a full chapter in story mode. Don't worry about missing out on stuff, nobody understands the clusterfuck that is the BlazBlue story anyway.

Concerning Velocity Ultra

I'm trying to "perfect" every level before going ahead.
I reached Area 18 and I can get gold, I can get all the request (I mean the flags near to the final list) but I cannot perfect it.

Why?
Is there a general rule when you just reached all the requested conditions'

Thanks.

For a perfect run, you need these 4 requirements simulataneously within one play:
- gold time (top flag time)
- save all civilians (top flag civilians)
- get the maximum number of points required (top flag points)
- you may not die (you can take hits as long as you don't die)

Also, to get points, destroy as much enemies as possible but also take health and the bonus thingies that pop up when you destroy a complete wave. Because both also count for points.

I don't understand playing a game if it is a chore and not fun but thanks for the warnings about it. Unfortunate to hear how it turned out - especially a final boss QTE fest? Ick...\

EDIT: Carl - your changed avatar has so much wrong with it now... lol :)

That oh so satisfying feeling when you clear a game from your backlog. :)

Thanks Wouvie,

that's what I think too but...
I just finished level 20 and:

Civilians: 90/90
Time: 01:34
Points: 48450
Xp Area: 150/150

I'm sure I did not die, I've just being hit.
And I did not get the Perfect.
Why??!

EDIT: oh shi* you are right!!
That points result was wrong.
I was thinking it was ok just because in past I got the flag on it.
But 48.000 is not enough, you need 68.000

I just tried again and
90/90
1:39
68.500
150/150
No death

And perfect.
You rock!
Thanks so much.

P.S.
This game is A W E S O M E

Men's Room is just unplayable near the end due to the ridiculous RNG.

18/20 Hands washed in one round missions.

Don't start the round off with 3 speed-runners? You've already lost.
Stalls filled and you get multiple TP entries? You lose.
Hit round 8+? Too many people to work with, you lose.

And then you have to start over and grind back to round 6 for another chance at being able to do it if RNG shines in your favor.
6 rounds at 1:00-1:30 each and ~13 second intermissions means this probably takes like 10 minutes just to get to the retry.

Awful :(

Edit: Tried again. Had an extremely promising Round 7 going..until I got a TP guy -every- time I filled the 3 stalls. RNG loss!

I already have. Square Enix won't even port Final Fantasy Type-0 to Vita, so they definitely won't make exclusive high quality games for the machine. KojiPro won't bother with an exclusive (timed or otherwise) Metal Gear for it either.

Idk, I don't think we really need Konami/Kojipro or Squeenix anymore. Both of them are either shadows of their former selves or have gone completely multiplatform/console only to live up to their stupid sales forecasts.

Vitabros please make a prayer for ff agito on vita :(
Or even better someone ask kaz and shahid about agito!

Here's hoping it really is Agito on Vita! It looked amazing on PSP.

Hey, do you guys think that it would've been better if Sony would have, instead of financing RealityFighters, LittleDeviants, Modnation Racers, Unit13 and Resistance: Burning Skies, just took two of them and actually done them properly.
I think this is a classic example of Quantity over Quality.
Those games aren't exactly bad, but they aren't good either(some might consider Unit13 to be good tho) and certainly not very good.
Two good to very good games instead of five pretty mediocre games.
For example Modnation with stable framerate and online multiplayer. Or Resistance not done by Nihilistic and actually on par with the ones on Ps3.
I would've prefred that.

Another thing that bothers me is that GodOfWar:Ascension is a Ps3 title.
It was obvious that Ascension on the Ps3 would be compared to GoW3, and in terms of epicness and story it just can't compete. People just thought it would top GoW3 and were let down, you can see that in the reviews. Imagine the exact same game, PsVita only... 90+ review scores guaranteed.
Ascension also didn't sell so well and I am pretty sure that it would've actually sold better on the Vita.
There isn't much big exclusive stuff on the Vita between holiday season 2012 and fall 2013, at least not for the west. Vita exclusive AAA GoW with 90+ review scores into that software drought... oh boy...
Would've easily sold more than on Ps3 and a lot of GoW fans would've bought a Vita.
And let's be honest, Ps3 didn't need it. There is more than enough great stuff for the Ps3 this year.

Last night I re-watched the PS4 reveal from Feb. 20th. I am really looking forward to streaming PS4 games to Vita. Do you think we'll see PS3 streaming as well or do you think it'll be a PS4-only feature at this point?

How horrible are we talking with the loading times? Is it like Gravity Rush where the initial load takes forever but then the rest of the game is fine, or does it just take ages to load each fight as well?

I would actually love to see exclusive games from both SE and Kojima on the Vita, their past efforts on the PSP were just amazing (PW and Type-0).

I also hope that Agito trademark means we are finally getting Type-0 here. Although I wouldn't get hyped for it until we get more concrete info.

I think this is a classic example of Quantity over Quality.

I'm not sure Sony knows what to do with the Vita, to be honest. They seem to be aiming a lot of their games at younger kids, Little Deviants, MNR, and the extremely puzzling port of Epic Mickey 2. And as you say, Unit 13 and Resistance just weren't fully cooked/realized.

And reality fighters, well, Invisimals was a big hit on the PSP in Europe, so maybe they figured more AR games would sell.

And I think Japan, they should have done what you said - instead of making two MH clones, they should have made one really great one. Look at all the time Namco is taking with God Eater 2.

PS4 only, probably. PS4's got a chip dedicated to video encoding.

tried tweeting to @yosp, @shahidkamal and the dev. but no one responded on that
maybe the MS agreement hasn't expired :/

well it was just published by MS on steam, so it's possible that there was a new agreement put in place (as I don't think he was allowed to release on steam until the original agreement ran up, but I am not 100% on that). At the very least it's obvious that for the last few months noogy's focus has been on the PC release.

with Sony's push to indies I think they will actively pursue it if it's possible.

I do hope so. seems like an awesome game.

oh. didn't know it was published by MS.. guess it's gonna be awhile before a PSN version or anything comes up. hmm. I would be more inclined to pay 15USD on PSN than on Steam.. (some strange reason that eludes even myself)

Guacamelee. ;)

i haven't quite finished Guacamelee but I would call it above average not quite good. Dust I would easily call good though.

Guacamelee just feels like it's missing a but of polish. For starters It's got an ok upgrade system, but the chests and what not just give out money, which since i can get money from killing stuff and what not my motivation to go back and get chests just wasn't there.... which if there isn't enough incentive to go back for chests it kind of makes the metroidvania design kind of pointless to me.

Dust on the other hand had unique equipment and other really interesting items hiding in the chest. If I got a key and I knew where a chest was I would run back as far as it took as I knew there was likely something exciting for me in the chest. which when I get a power and knowing I have access to new chests now, that's quite exciting and I stop going forward and run back for chests. In guacamelee it was more like, oh that's nice, and just continued playing towards the goal.

there are more reasons i preferred Dust, but that would be the big one... the lack of incentive to hunt down chests is kind of a big drawback to me.

I finally beat Rayman Origins today. Amazing art style, great platforming that bordered on controller-breakingly difficult yet very rewarding. My only problem was with the story. Absolutely nothing that happened made any sort of sense to me. If anyone can explain the general plot of the game, I'd be so thankful. Also, for a game called Rayman Origins, you'd think there would be an explanation of the origins of Rayman somewhere in there, but from what I could see? Nope.

I finally beat Rayman Origins today.

Now when you say you beat Rayman Origins, do you mean you beat Rayman Origins or you beat Rayman Origins?

0RFJB.jpg

As for the story...it's not really about that. I think the plot was
you got woke up and hand to go beat up some bad guys so you could go back to sleep.

Rayman Origins is so conflicting. I mean, the graphics looks like what will attract kids but as the game progresses, it's as hard as rocks.

so what the chances for a price drop at E3? will Sony drop it or just bet on the supposed "dozens" of games that are coming to sell the thing?

I ask because I know someone want to rebuy Vita really bad (he sold it because of lack of support and weak lineup I believe) but really missing the system now... a really messy situation.

Don't worry toto, I'm sure they'll drop the price soon. You made a silly mistake. It happens.

Oh i wonder who that mysterious individual might be ;)

Imho price drop is coming at gamescom to not kill sales right now and benefit from actual software releases.

No matter what Sony announces, it won't live up to the month's worth of unreachable hype he allowed to build. It's his own fault, and he's going to disappoint a LOT of people.

I dunno. My expectations are quite realistic. I am not expecting 10 AAA games or something crazy like that, but 2 or 3 original games from known franchises would be nice.

Wait what?!

Toro's Friend Network, don't recall the AC elements though.

Where's Open Me, either? :(

Friend Network says Spring, which ends next month on the 20th. "Later this year" for Open Me.

Toro's Friend Network, yeah. A guy explained it to me as having AC elements as well, and that it was fairly central to the product. We can clearly see the RPG stuff in it though. It's entirely possible someone over sold it to me, however. XD

If the Vita gets Diablo 3, that would meet the hype. And there is really no reason the Vita couldn't get it.

Not that I think it will. But the Vita could handle it, and I'm sure if Sony used enough money trucks Activision would be willing to do it. Though Sony would have to find a developer to port it, and they'd have to pick someone competent.

But it's possible. That Abe Odyssey port turned out well. Too bad Sony never followed up their desire to port Borderlands 2.

The Elder Scrolls or Fallout would also probably meet the hype. But again, that's probably not going to happen, not that it couldn't technically, but Sony likely won't want to pay for it.

I don't think that would satisfy most people though. Sony's biggest IP is Gran Turismo, which evidently isn't headed to the Vita. Another Uncharted? Infamous? I guess God of War might attract some interest, but I think people are somewhat sick of the series.

Blizzard won't have any of that, and they'd take at least 10 years trying to fit Diablo's interface to a screen that size.

The screens are in Japanese but the game has English; don't know why they didn't bother making localized screens because it might stop some people from buying it.

PSM is a global store. That is why games get bumped when they get released in new regions. See Dungeon Bandit from last week.

the talk in here scares the shit out of me.
It is weird. I hear many people talk about how "frustrating" it was, but one of my main complaints is how kind of easy it was. Sure, the bonus stuff was difficult, but it doesn't touch stuff like Megaman 9, Super Meat Boy, or something like I Bleed Pixels. The game has a really good checkpoint system and never sends you too far back. I would recommend it whole heartedly.

I would love Dust on the Vita though.

I think that is a given at this point. You can't please every single member of any given user base. But as long as there are one or two compelling title/s announced by Sony, he should be on the safe side.

I completely agree on the "hype" thing though. Building it for over a month with that much confidence was too much.

These two remaining weeks are going to be torture.

Vitabros please make a prayer for ff agito on vita :(
Or even better someone ask kaz and shahid about agito!

Operation Suzaku have been bugging Yoshida about Type-0 for months. I doubt that trademark registration meant anything in regards to a localization or a port to Vita. There's more media out there branded as "Final Fantasy Type-0" than "Agito Final Fantasy XIII" at this point.

And I think Japan, they should have done what you said - instead of making two MH clones, they should have made one really great one. Look at all the time Namco is taking with God Eater 2.

I'm not sure GE2's development cycle is entirely due to asset creation, and an overall push to make it the best they can. I suspect the game has run into some trouble. The dramatic change in art style from the modern Nomura-esque Final Fantasy look in the initial reveal morphing back to the original GE look in the re-reveal suggests that.

Idk, I don't think we really need Konami/Kojipro or Squeenix anymore. Both of them are either shadows of their former selves or have gone completely multiplatform/console only to live up to their stupid sales forecasts.

This is a very conflicted post. In the beginning you try to discredit Square Enix's efforts, and then you end up praising them. Personally, Square Enix and KojiPro provided some of my fondest memories of games on the PSP. They pushed the platform like almost no one else could, and proved to us that despite some HD missteps, they could still deliver the level of quality we'd expect from them. I had hoped that would only continue on with Vita, but it hasn't.

I'll give it a shot eventually, but my newly acquired backlog is already deep.
