Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | May 2013 | Lovecraftian Wasteland

Hello all,

Finally jumping on the Vita train as I await my package to arrive Wednesday (damn holiday). I was just wondering if there are any accessories worthwhile, mainly a case/pouch. Is a screen protector needed?

Can someone tell me, why on earth is Square letting all that money lay on the ground with Final Fantasy Type-0 never being localized in English? It's mind-boggling. Would have been a pretty decent system seller in the west if they decided to make a proper HD port to boot.

Welcome!

I don't use any accessories except for the Hori screen protector shown in this video. It works amazingly well.

Other than that, get yourself a hard case and the largest memory card you can afford. Anything less than 16GB will have you screaming for more in a blink.

Oh, and PS+ if you don't already have it. It's an unbelievable deal for all the free games you get.

Square Enix localized Final Fantasy Type-0. They just decided against releasing it.

No worries, I already plan on getting a 32 gb pretty soon after. With my experience using an 8gb card for the psp and struggling to keep all my essentials on a single cart, I shan't make that mistake again. And of course I got the instant games bundle to extend my ps+ sub. Even though i don't use a protector for my iDevices, that hori SP does look pretty nice.

Oh, that makes more sense. I mean, the game would have sold itself without any marketing whatsoever, where's the fun in that, where's the challenge! 'fuck type-0 man, MINDJACK IS WHERE IT'S AT!'

It's not rocket science. They released a lot of games for PSP in the west yet none of them sold that well, especially in 2010/2011, and PSP would have been even more dead in the west when Type-0's localization would have been finished.
An HD port would probably have sold like shit since SCEA (& SCEE?) don't allow physical releases of singular HD remasters, so Type-0 would have had to be a digital only release, something I'm sure SQEX doesn't want to do for a game as big as Type-0 (it does, after all, have what is the biggest cast of voice actors in a SQEX JRPG and it's a massive game overall too). They'd understandably rather wait for some viable option (which neither Vita nor 3DS are/were when they made decisions about it) to come up than screw it up with a bad choice of platform. It's frustrating as a gamer, but understandable from SQEX's POV

Even in the end times, their FFs and such were still breaking 100k in NA in the first month, unless I'm mistaken.

Yeah, it's like Capcom not localizing the last PSP MH, I think they just have unrealistic expectations. If it doesn't sell half a million, who cares? (Then they wonder why their games aren't super blockbusters like COD)

Making some money is better than making no money. Presumably they will eventually release Type 0 on iOS for $9.99, but they gave up a chance of selling it at $40. Would they sell more than 50,000 units at that price on the PSP? Maybe not, but I'd have to think they would make their money back then and could sell it on iOS later down the line. RPGs have a long tail, it's not like they would lose many sales later by selling it on the PSP.

This E3, we will know whether Shahid is a true vitabro or not. Believe.
Not really, he's never actually given a timeline for when the stuff he's hyping will be revealed. If we are to take the most pessimistic view, the OMG BIG TITLE could have just entered development and not be ready for announcement until well into next year. Most of the dozens of games could just be referring to the indie games already announced for the Vita. And of course, we could quibble endlessly about what he really means by system seller...

That said, there's been enough murmurings to believe we're getting something AAA-ish for the fall/winter, whether it's what everyone wanted remains to be seen.

Is there an actual source for this policy? And regardless, it's silly to think that after Sony revamped their third party relations to focus on being developer friendly, SE couldn't get a physical release for what would be one of the biggest Vita releases ever if they wanted to. I suspect that with SE's internal development issues (FFXIV and Versus being big black holes), they've just struggled to decide on which platform to port it to and where to take the manpower for the dev team from.

That One Piece game (pirate warriors 2) actually looks pretty funny. Looks like a DMC/GoW/Dynasty Warriors sort of game, would a non-Japanese gamer be alright with the game? As in, do you need to follow the story or will their anime faces gives it away :)

It's not getting localised is it?

The PS3 version is. The Vita is not... or at least that was what Bamco said initially. But then rumors that they've changed their mind and are localizing it after all appeared, so who knows?

Ah thanks, okay might hold off for a US version just in case. It looks so silly with the stretching arms and cool artstyle, I need more silly games.

Now when you say you beat Rayman Origins, do you mean you beat Rayman Origins or you beat Rayman Origins?

As for the story...it's not really about that. I think the plot was
you got woke up and hand to go beat up some bad guys so you could go back to sleep.

I didn't do any time attack electoons, but I did beat the Land of the Dead. The final levels almost made me delete the game in frustration. I thought the plot was similar to what you said until
the magician who served as the tutorial guide comes out and starts dancing with Rayman and then you end up chasing him and eventually shooting the hell out of him
Am I the only one who hated the mosquito shmup levels? They were just so damn hard!

Toro's Friend Network, yeah. A guy explained it to me as having AC elements as well, and that it was fairly central to the product. We can clearly see the RPG stuff in it though. It's entirely possible someone over sold it to me, however. XD

It looks fun, and if it's free or a couple bucks I'll go for it.

I would definitely get a screen protector, honestly the best ones are the ones that cover the entire front of the Vita IMO because the glossy finish is NOT nice with fingerprints, unless you got the White Vita or something. Also the official pouch is the best pouch I've used, it's really protective and it can hold lots of stuff.

Also, Kass I just checked out the Vita stream video - congrats man that's so awesome! Looking forward to more direct feed videos, will definitely be sharing them.

You should try to highlight games that really show off the Vita's graphical prowess. I think a lot of people don't realize how good games can look on Vita, since screenshots tend to get compressed and OTS recording is usually not so clear.

Man, I'm impressed with the way Sony seem to be staying on top of digital prices. Just decided I was going to buy Unit 13, went to the store and it's only £11.99. Must've had a price drop at some point.

Can you purchase and install psp games that are on PSN but not in the Vita store to play like a person can with many of the PSone games? Couple PSP games I want on the Vita but aren't in the store when I browse on the VITA

Yes some of them are compatible although they're not in Vita store but are in PS3.
EDIT:
The better solution is you search for game feedback in psvita before purchase it from PC or PS3.

Check the OP, there should be a link to a thread listing what works and what needs to be transferred.

The official Vita dock is not so great. It puts your Vita at a weird angle which makes it weird to pull out. Every time I have people over to my house I'm afraid they'll try to take it off wrong while I'm not looking and break it (breaking the Vita's connector as well).

Also, it doesn't come with its own charger and cable (boo).

I have that VIP case and it sucks so hard. Mine never closes all the way because the mold they used is off my a smidgen.

Mine closes right. The base is not made by the same material as the superior side but to keep it save from dust, the only thing that worry me XD. I wouldn't like my VITA falls over whatever the case was it in, but I think this one is the nicest.

Who is doing June thread ?
I dunno, anyone feel the calling?

It'll certainly be a better month than May for NA, with Quell Memento, Epic Mickey 2 and Muramasa Rebirth confirmed, and Hotline Miami, Velocity Ultra, and Jak & Daxter likely. EU is also getting MotoGP13. And while there's been no official announcement, LEGO Legends of Chima: Laval's Journey has been showing up at some retailers with a June 25th date.

Yeah, that's old, but now they are confirming the rumor (and someone says that the source is an Ubisoft email).

Great news then :-D. Rayman origins is one the most beautiful games right now in Vita, Legends sure looks godly.
Now time to Bamco to confirm One Piece PW2 in Europe :_(.

Also, Wipeout, Little Deviants, Battle Royale, Reality Fighters, Smart as is at that price in EU store. I'm not sure if its a sale which i dont see any indication or it's a permanent thing.

I wish Ubisoft would just come out and announce the Vita version of Rayman Legends. I want to know I can buy it on there. It seems like it's practically a given, but they sure are taking their good old time on announcing it.

I'm watching the Super Puzzle Platformer quicklook on Giant Bomb, this game would actually be a really awesome fit on Vita.

I'm exactly the opposite. It fits beautifully and looks slick on mine. No room for cartridges is probably my only complaint but a small one since I have a big digital library.

I think your case wasn't manufactured properly. :(

Enjoy it, it's a brilliant game. Unfortunately, it's stuck in my backlog >.<

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, ended up with the screen protector and vita travel pouch. The storage for the carts and the fact it was available on amazon by amazon was the tipping point for me.

Now to prepare all my save data to transfer over. Question, are we still only allowed two mobile devices per psn account? I have 2 psps tied to it atm and don't want to unlink them to make space for the vita.

Maybe they're waiting until E3, not to speculate, but it would make a lot of sense because it would go over well with people who have Vitas.

Rayman is official! Rejoice!

I'm pretty sure it's a permanent drop. Good on 'em, I hope the flexible pricing racks 'em up some sales.

Only played the first 6 missions so far, but I'm really enjoying it. It reminds me of 'The Club'.

Really good news. I wish 'em all the success in the world. They gambled on the Vita and it seems to be paying off.
