This does go against what famousmortimer was saying but it makes a lot more sense to me. Honestly if Sony listens to us and Microsoft's "not final" policies wind up being less restrictive it'll be a big win for us and publishers won't be able to do anything.

Tip to those pressuring Sony on used games: these changes are happening due to third parties. EA, Activision, Ubisoft, etc. They want this.

So while Microsoft deserves flack for having wishy washy answers, know the real reason it's happening is because of other companies.

Obviously third parties want this but I think he is understating how much it would benefit Sony and MS as well.

But the point of this, obviously, isn't that we don't know why. It's that we don't care why. We don't like it.

Cue, 553243 Cliffy quotes. Let's keep going with the positive and focus on the matter that something to gamers.

Positively rewarding people has always been a better tactic then enforcing awful DRM strategies. It's why Steam works as well as it does.

Imagine if anytime you bought a game new you got a code to link it to your account (allowing you and only you to install 'n play without the disc) as well as a trophy for buying new? The disc behaves as it always has, but you as a consumer are given an extra reward.

Yeah, there would be a number of ways to implement this. And I imagine it would generate a lot of good will. It's an attempt to find a way for everyone to benefit.

What I'm hoping is that they find creative ways to help with the problem. Considering the following:

1. A system-level achievement for every game you buy "new".

2. An opportunity for gamers who buy a used version to "support the developer" by buying unique avatars, wallpapers, and so on with funds that go directly to the developer and also earn the player a system-level achievement.

In other words, instead of burdening used games with DRM, positively reward behavior that supports developers.

I've suggested this exact same thing:

Reward new buyers with incentives. When you punish used buyers, you hurt everyone. When you reward new buyers, you reward new buyers

Nintendo sort of has it with Club Nintendo, but buying new games gives you bonuses that don't detract from the game. Maybe every new game bought gives you a certain score, and that score unlocks 30 days of PS+

So, for example, buy 5 new games, and you get enough points to unlock a month of PS+?

I also think, in general, Sony needs to add incentives to unlock trophies-- avatars and profile backgrounds are so cool to unlock, but keeping those for new game buyers is a great way to reward players who support games.

Just ignore Cliffy as well. Let's not turn this thread into hating on one or two individuals for their ignorant comments.

Focus on the topic at hand, #PS4NoDRM #PS4USEDGAMES

Sony employees are responding positively (which may mean nothing of course) and that means far more than some ignorant comments from certain individuals.

So my Twitter account just got suspended because of spam? Is it automated or did someone report me? I just created it yesterday and made 4 tweets.
Only Koller and Yoshida got two messages (1 personal, 1 gofreak). I thanked famousmortimer and also used gofreaks publisher tweet.

Seems like though some gaffers here are resigned to losing their consumer rights... Sad really.

Probably got flagged since they all use the same hastag.

I believe his point with that statement was that putting pressure only on MS and Sony is a bit misguided and some of the heat should also be applied to the publishers.

I dont know much about twitter, but afaik you have a limited number of tweets when you start a new account, to prevent spams and etc. I dont remember how long it lasts though.

FUCK THAT.

It's on Sony to make sure that publisher's are not shitting up their platform with bullshit like this.

If Sony allows it on a publisher by publisher basis it's as bad as the alleged XB1 situation in my eyes.

AKA never touching the console EVER.

I would argue that we can't really pressure publishers all that much. I mean we can say all we want to them but their stance will only ever be "We don't make the guidelines for the consoles."

It's pretty much why this pressure needs to be put on console makers. If publishers are pushing them to do this we have to push back. They are the ones that actually make the decisions.

Yeah I don't understand this either. I mean, he's right that we should expand our campaign out and we have been.

But why couldn't Microsoft have said no to publishers. What would these publishers do if they had no console to sell their games on? So this idea that publishers and devs have complete control over this is kind of silly.

And before someone points to Nintendo not having 3rd party support, there is just no way these publishers could afford to do that with one of the big two. If they cut ties with MS or Sony over this, they would lose infinitely more amount of money than the perceived amount they believe they are losing with the trade in market.

This. In the end, the console makers are the ones that hold the most power.

Yep. Most publishers aren't going to suddenly stop releasing games on Sony platforms because they don't support DRM. They'd lose way too much money.
If Sony do have used game DRM bullshit, they're the main ones to blame.

Oh Cliffy.

I think that's kind of what we are all fighting for now (defining our rights when buying the physical version of something).
Right? "Oh, EULA policies are already kind of crappy. Guess we can't fight new crappy policies!" That's how we've been steamrolled over and over already.
