Thing is after cods and battlefields, publishers have become greedy. Back then only sports franchises were greenlit yearly sequels; Madden, NHL, etc. Nowadays everyone wants a piece of pie and the publishers (and developers) have lost their way dancing to the tune of almighty dollar. We have fixed schedules and budgets and teams are told to deliver, and also better throw in a multiplayer mode because bros love that. So where else to get that extra dollar to feed the 200+ employees, publishers and licensing stuff? Well, used game sales market is the fat cow waiting to be slaughtered by the industry.
