How big? The only way I see Capcom or WB putting up a pot bonus worthy of attention outside the FGC is if they include it in their marketing budget, in which case they'll spend it on something else. I would love to see a Cross Assault 2: It'll be better this time, but Capcom probably wont try that again.

And welcome Juicebox.

A large organization that can sponsor tournaments. They don't necessarily need to provide pot bonuses but should be able to support tournaments in the long run. We need more than just Madcatz and Brokentier. Assuming ps4 is the tourney standard for next gen fighters, having Sony as a supporter would be huge. They're only sponsoring EVO iirc. That's just my take on it as someone who has 0 experience running tournaments.

Evo 2011 had over 100k viewers

They had a lot in regards to unique viewers but that's probably due to being streamed on the home page of popular websites. In regards to concurrent, it was around 80k.

Bee beat Fanatiq 15-14 in their first FT15, then on the runback he beat Fanatiq 15-5. Fanatiq must have a good idea what he's getting himself into if that 10k money match is really going ahead.

Bee sandbagged like mad in the first one just to get the second one.

Bee sandbagged like mad in the first one just to get the second one.

That's something I noticed with Bee. The first match is either a loss or a close win but the sets after he pulls away or narrows the gap. Same thing happened with Knives and even FChamp. I didn't know if it was sandbagging or adjustments. Or I guess it's a combination of both.

That's what Dieminion was saying, pay out is like 15k.

That's still fucking paltry.
That's about what payout was at the biggest chess tournament in the USA was when I paid ($10K for 1st). I've never heard a chess player complain about it.

Just got my account activated, I'm happy to be on neogaf.

I think that Chris G is a great player overall and it's unfortunate he's having these thoughts. It seems to me that he does not place much intrinsic value on his wins. Without a matching extrinsic motivation ($$) he might be questioning why he does what he does and it's safe to say that every top player goes through this at some point.

Anyway, I'm here mostly to plug KOF XIII and my stream so I'll be in that thread. Also learning Guilty Gear and Skullgirls.
I'm also learning Skullgirls, so add me up on PSN: Karsticles.

Compared to the prize pot of DOTA 2 TI3 which is now 2 million plus for 1st place, yea its kinda paltry. Even if you split it among the 5 players that still comes to 400k per person.

Yea yea I know... EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-SPORTS

I was gonna make that thread I was making but then I decided against it. When I started typing stuff up, it felt very awkward making it so I just stopped.

Especially when the title is something like "Which fighting game dev had the best output this gen?" I felt like I was inviting flame wars. I apologize. :(

But on the plus side, I was thinking of doing something else. A lot of people complain about fighters being too hard to learn and I think everyone would benefit if there were designated people that could be reached for each fighter. If a newbie is trying to learn, they can try to contact that person to help them learn.

So without even going any further, I'm going to ask people from their respective communities to participate.

Requirements:

1. Voice chat - Really is the most annoying thing to have to type messages to communicate so voice chat is a must.

2. Skill level - If you're a beginner yourself, then obviously there's not much you can teach others. Must have knowledge and execution at least at intermediate and advanced levels.

3. Good internet - As long as the game is playable online with your internet without having incessant lag, then you probably have fine/good internet. This will also vary across games since some have better netcode. So a person might want to offer help in Skullgirls but not in KoFXIII because there is a disparity in netcode. Their online games run fine in one game and not the other. So take that in to consideration.

If you can and are willing, list your GAF name, PSN ID/Live ID/NNID, Game(s) and the characters you know well in the game(s), and finally your skill level (intermediate or advanced).

It already feels awkward making this post but I thought it was worth trying and would be helpful to newcomers. If no one wants to participate, then that's fine too I guess.

What? I don't follow DOTA but daaaaaaamn.

Get the Xtokki. It's the best. It's lagless. It's highly recommended by SRK. Also, it doesn't require a wired 360 controller like all of the other converters. That last point is a pretty big deal.

It's not lagless but it's probably the best adapter for the job. Native controllers are still far more responsive.

Also, welcome Juicebox.

Really want to get super special trophies this year but can only afford a handful of games, Guess so I don't hurt anyone I'll get equal4all.

And some games just don't have high pre reg numbers and you can't order special stuff at the last second. Maybe Next year my idea will work.

Sucks that TOs are letting the crybaby nonsense affect things to this extent, but at the same time it's understandable.

Nobody, game's too complicated right now v_v

Interested in Anji, Ky, and Baiken though.

I love me some Bacon. If you stream a Bacon run through I would watch it. She's pretty easy to manage meter with because I honestly just use it for FRCs and more FRCs. Sometimes her forcebreak but most of the time it's just a lot more FRCs.

Sorry if old, but Darkstalkers Resurrection is on sale for 800 MS for the next few days.

You must be a Gold member to see the sale.
It seems like 360 always has better sales :(

Thanks guys, just ordered an xTokki. It won't arrive in time for Michigan Masters, but I think I can deal with having to use a 360 pad for a short while. (i thought i could get used to it, but i like the PS style pad so much more. Also controller prices are so stupid this gen. I can get a brand new sealed ps2 controller for less than half of what a ps3 or 360 controller costs)

Yeah. I really wish more controllers used the PS2 style d-pad because it's far my speed for a lot of games. I'm using the MCZ SFxT Pads right now and while they're good for Capcom games, it's a bit wonky for other games. The floating D-Pad makes it a little harder to hit a few exact inputs in games where it isn't as loose. KOF is where I'm having trouble with it, heh.

Come on MarkMan, get the designers at madcatz to do pads with PS style D-pads!

I actually heard something about how different companies have different patents on pad design. Like thats why you see the control cross on Nintendo hardware, the sectioned off cross knobs on Playstation and it's consoles, and Xbox has to settle for some circular piece of plastic. Though maybe a controller enthusiast or someone who works in the business like Markman would know much better and tell me if I got it wrong.

I wouldn't doubt there are patents on them. I'd just pay a little more for a well-made, wired pad using that style and is built for fighting games like having the buttons on Madcatz uses for the fightpads.

I've always said FGC is closer to WSOP than any "e-sports".

One idea: 12 tournies (majors) do this.
(My suggestion: Evo, FR, UFGT, NEC, NCR, SCR, TFC, Devastation, a Texas tourney, CEO, Canada Cup, NWM)- go for a good geographical mix.

1st place goes down to 30% from 70%. They put 40% of their entry fee money aside for the grand tourney.

At the end of the year- the 12 winners (if someone has already won and wins again, the highest eligible finisher makes it)- play round-robin somewhere for all that money. pot bonus includes free trip to grand tourney. YOu wouldn't need a big place, it's invitational- at most 75-100 folks would need to be there (players, staff, commentators)

You'd probably have a pot of around 100k for this grand finals tournament, held new year's weekend.

I've always agreed w/ the bold, and I like this plan.

I would help, but I don't fit the voice chat requirement. :-/

HOW MANY TOP 8'S YOU GOT

YOU HAVE NO FRIENDS WHO YOU CALLIN?

So... am I the only person who doesn't really give a shit whether Chris goes to EVO or not? There are so many other players there that one player is doesn't really matter.
It would be a pretty big deal for MvC3. And its winner would have to face endless remarks about how he didn't beat the better player to get his title.
For all the other games though, yeah I agree, it wouldn't matter much. The guy is hella good, but I do find he's being overblowned in AE or Injustice.

But yeah, he's gonna go, he's just doing his drama queen because the pressure is probably starting to get to him. The fact that players are catching up to him and starting to beat him is also probably part of the problem.

Welcome!

In regards to MvC3, it would be nice. But as far AE goes, I couldn't care less. So you aren't the only one.

I'm more interested in seeing how everyone takes down Infiltration in SFxT and AE and see Marvel as a sideshow of nuttiness and craziness. Oh and maybe if someone can win against the Koreans or Mexicans in TTT2 and KOF.

If there's a demand for it, I'll gladly help. It does feel a little redundant given that people who need help will probably head to the game's OT. If someone makes a post in the SF4 thread asking for advice, there's usually someone there helping out.

Just wanted to post the number of entrants for all the game at UFGT9
Here

Those weren't final. Final numbers are:

SSF4 - 218
UMvC3 - 209
DK - 181
Inj - 179
SFxT - 103
KoF - 78
TTT2 - 74
P4A - 64
MK9 - 61
SG - 44
VS - 42
SC5 - 38
MYST - 128 capped
BBB - 125 capped

Yes, why was MK a "main game" if it wasn't going to get the same treatment?

It's especially disappointing because Chicago is the home of MK and this was a big tournament for us. Probably the most stacked since SCR 2013.

I am disappointed in the answer that pre-reg were too low. He should have known turnout would be pretty good and sure enough it was about the same as other trophy games. Was there some specific cut off?

But whatever. Sorry I vented a frustration that my good friend didn't get the same respect other tournament winners did.

I'm planning on coming by tonight and we can talk about stuff if you're there.

38 people for SCV and VF5FS is a no-show. Man... :/

At least by all accounts FS will have good attendance at NWM.

We didn't have VF5FS as an official game. It sucks because VF is probably my favorite fighting game series, but we had 14 games as it was and some things had to be cut.

At least FS is pretty much confirmed for a side game at TFC (Drift's already agreed to run it, I'm just wondering if I should hide some of my Jeff shenanigans or my pocket Vanessa this weekend)

Who goes out to more tournaments, BB players or VF5 players?

Hey man, I'm not saying that VF5FS is super popular and it's an insult that the game wasn't at UGT. I'm just saying it's a smart, fun game that doesn't get as much attention as I'd like it to.

Definite good point. I like the part about the whole "offer private lessons, paid tutorials", because, I feel like that is something that could potentially work out well, as well as helping bring more people into the scene when they see how helpful people are to give advice and help people train. Just my two cents on that little bit, really.

They are famous guys. I know, only in our community and it's still growing, but there's a lot of people who would pay a good amount
(ANY AMOUNT)
of money to have some classes with Chris G about his game style, or to play some hours against RayRay, or Floe could have a "I Wanna Be the Boshy" pay-per-view stream...
Maybe have your change list for the totally confirmed by FChamp UMvC3 patch analised by the FGTV crew for 5 bucks (get on dat, Dahbomb!), I don't know, there's a lot of possibilities.

VF was on sale on PSN this week 67% off. THat's a better sale. (of a better game, though DSR was good also)

Who goes out to more tournaments, BB players or VF5 players?

Sega Cup drew 100 last month as a VF5-only tourney. VF folks do show, but only at majors, and there's not that many of them (it's growing because the game keeps its players pretty well)
