People aren't seriously falling for these ChrisG shenanigans....
How big? The only way I see Capcom or WB putting up a pot bonus worthy of attention outside the FGC is if they include it in their marketing budget, in which case they'll spend it on something else. I would love to see a Cross Assault 2: It'll be better this time, but Capcom probably wont try that again.
And welcome Juicebox.
Evo 2011 had over 100k viewers
I think Bee beat Fanatiq once. FChamp beat Bee twice.
Bee beat Fanatiq 15-14 in their first FT15, then on the runback he beat Fanatiq 15-5. Fanatiq must have a good idea what he's getting himself into if that 10k money match is really going ahead.
Bee sandbagged like mad in the first one just to get the second one.
That's about what payout was at the biggest chess tournament in the USA was when I paid ($10K for 1st). I've never heard a chess player complain about it.That's what Dieminion was saying, pay out is like 15k.
That's still fucking paltry.
I'm also learning Skullgirls, so add me up on PSN: Karsticles.Just got my account activated, I'm happy to be on neogaf.
I think that Chris G is a great player overall and it's unfortunate he's having these thoughts. It seems to me that he does not place much intrinsic value on his wins. Without a matching extrinsic motivation ($$) he might be questioning why he does what he does and it's safe to say that every top player goes through this at some point.
Anyway, I'm here mostly to plug KOF XIII and my stream so I'll be in that thread. Also learning Guilty Gear and Skullgirls.
Compared to the prize pot of DOTA 2 TI3 which is now 2 million plus for 1st place, yea its kinda paltry. Even if you split it among the 5 players that still comes to 400k per person.
Get the Xtokki. It's the best. It's lagless. It's highly recommended by SRK. Also, it doesn't require a wired 360 controller like all of the other converters. That last point is a pretty big deal.
Really want to get super special trophies this year but can only afford a handful of games, Guess so I don't hurt anyone I'll get equal4all.
And some games just don't have high pre reg numbers and you can't order special stuff at the last second. Maybe Next year my idea will work.
Nobody, game's too complicated right now v_v
Interested in Anji, Ky, and Baiken though.

Thanks guys, just ordered an xTokki. It won't arrive in time for Michigan Masters, but I think I can deal with having to use a 360 pad for a short while. (i thought i could get used to it, but i like the PS style pad so much more. Also controller prices are so stupid this gen. I can get a brand new sealed ps2 controller for less than half of what a ps3 or 360 controller costs)It's not lagless but it's probably the best adapter for the job. Native controllers are still far more responsive.
Yeah. I really wish more controllers used the PS2 style d-pad because it's far my speed for a lot of games. I'm using the MCZ SFxT Pads right now and while they're good for Capcom games, it's a bit wonky for other games. The floating D-Pad makes it a little harder to hit a few exact inputs in games where it isn't as loose. KOF is where I'm having trouble with it, heh.
I actually heard something about how different companies have different patents on pad design. Like thats why you see the control cross on Nintendo hardware, the sectioned off cross knobs on Playstation, and xbox has to settle for some circular piece of plastic. Though maybe a controller enthusiast or someone who works in the business like Markman would know much better and tell me if I got it wrong.
I've always said FGC is closer to WSOP than any "e-sports".
One idea: 12 tournies (majors) do this.
(My suggestion: Evo, FR, UFGT, NEC, NCR, SCR, TFC, Devastation, a Texas tourney, CEO, Canada Cup, NWM)- go for a good geographical mix.
1st place goes down to 30% from 70%. They put 40% of their entry fee money aside for the grand tourney.
At the end of the year- the 12 winners (if someone has already won and wins again, the highest eligible finisher makes it)- play round-robin somewhere for all that money. pot bonus includes free trip to grand tourney. YOu wouldn't need a big place, it's invitational- at most 75-100 folks would need to be there (players, staff, commentators)
You'd probably have a pot of around 100k for this grand finals tournament, held new year's weekend.
I would help, but I don't fit the voice chat requirement. :-/I was gonna make that thread I was making but then I decided against it. When I started typing stuff up, it felt very awkward making it so I just stopped.
Especially when the title is something like "Which fighting game dev had the best output this gen?" I felt like I was inviting flame wars. I apologize.![]()
But on the plus side, I was thinking of doing something else. A lot of people complain about fighters being too hard to learn and I think everyone would benefit if there were designated people that could be reached for each fighter. If a newbie is trying to learn, they can try to contact that person to help them learn.
So without even going any further, I'm going to ask people from their respective communities to participate.
Requirements:
1. Voice chat - Really is the most annoying thing to have to type messages to communicate so voice chat is a must.
2. Skill level - If you're a beginner yourself, then obviously there's not much you can teach others. Must have knowledge and execution at least at intermediate and advanced levels.
3. Good internet - As long as the game is playable online with your internet without having incessant lag, then you probably have fine/good internet. This will also vary across games since some have better netcode. So a person might want to offer help in Skullgirls but not in KoFXIII because there is a disparity in netcode. Their online games run fine in one game and not the other. So take that in to consideration.
If you can and are willing, list your GAF name, PSN ID/Live ID/NNID, Game(s) and the characters you know well in the game(s), and finally your skill level (intermediate or advanced).
It already feels awkward making this post but I thought it was worth trying and would be helpful to newcomers. If no one wants to participate, then that's fine too I guess.

It would be a pretty big deal for MvC3. And its winner would have to face endless remarks about how he didn't beat the better player to get his title.So... am I the only person who doesn't really give a shit whether Chris goes to EVO or not? There are so many other players there that one player is doesn't really matter.

In regards to MvC3, it would be nice. But as far AE goes, I couldn't care less. So you aren't the only one.

Daisuke should be doing the character artwork for GG Xrd...
Just wanted to post the number of entrants for all the game at UFGT9

Yes, why was MK a "main game" if it wasn't going to get the same treatment?
It's especially disappointing because Chicago is the home of MK and this was a big tournament for us. Probably the most stacked since SCR 2013.
I am disappointed in the answer that pre-reg were too low. He should have known turnout would be pretty good and sure enough it was about the same as other trophy games. Was there some specific cut off?
But whatever. Sorry I vented a frustration that my good friend didn't get the same respect other tournament winners did.

He's correct. FGs will never be Poker, or even M:TG or E-Sports re: pot payouts, so you'll need to look for alternatives (like FChamp.)
Who goes out to more tournaments, BB players or VF5 players?
Definite good point. I like the part about the whole "offer private lessons, paid tutorials", because, I feel like that is something that could potentially work out well, as well as helping bring more people into the scene when they see how helpful people are to give advice and help people train. Just my two cents on that little bit, really.
