Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | May 2013 | Lovecraftian Wasteland

I know a few of you guys got FIFA 13 for free when you preordered Soul Sacrifice in the EU. Are any of you interested in playing some online matches, or making a friends league? I've recently started playing again (Fergie's retirement annoucement put me in the mood to play a football game), plus I'm aiming to get the platinum for some reason (my OCD most likely :lol). My PSN is oldyella if anyone's interested.

Yes, Takao the Nintendo fanboy ...

You aren't, but I do feel like you would be happier playing 3DS instead of Vita since you seem to mostly only like Japanese games. It's no secret that both the sales and the Japanese library are better on 3DS.

Me personally, I like some Japanese games but not many, and mostly prefer Western games, so I love the Vita's library.

I've decided to trade my iPad (never use it) in for a second hand Vita and some games. I'd be grateful if people could answer some questions for me...

  • Is there any downside to owning a second hand Vita? Will I be able to sync it up with my PSN account no problem?
  • Does Virtue's Last Reward definitely not have the game breaking bug that the 3DS version had (and broke my heart)?
  • How much is Everybody's Golf (Hot Shots Golf in US) on the UK PSN store? I can't seem to find a way of finding this out without actually using a Vita...
  • Would 16gb be sufficient if I want to mostly use physical copies but with some digital games? Such as Guacamole, Sine Mora, etc.

Thanks.

1- No downsides, you can have your account on it.
2- No bug on Vita version
3- Dunno, but the boxed version was dirt cheap on Amazon.co.uk
4- 16GB is enough if you buy cards/not DD only user.

Ad1 - none - hardware and your account is completly separated
Ad2 - no bug
Ad3 - no idea
Ad4 - yes it's fine (i still have only 16gb since launch)

1) Not at all, you can format it (if the previous owner already didn't) and set your own account, existing or not.
2) Yeah, no bug in the vita version.
3) IIRC it underwent a price cut recently and should be pretty cheap, the physical version is very cheap too in the UK. Can't check because I have an EU account though.
4) Yes, I have a 16GB card myself. For physical copies and some digital games it's enough, no need to spend all that money for a 32GB especially since a price cut for memory cards could be expected after E3.

EDIT: beaten twice.

Thanks guys. Much appreciated.

For some reason I thought Everybody's Golf was download only. I think I'm gonna get Persona 4, Everybody's Golf, Sound Shapes, Guacamole, Sine Mora, as well as Uncharted and whatever else is on PS+. Can't wait now!

I got my Vita second hand April 2012. It's never let me down. Had a memory problem with it but it was a download issue that corrupted my memory card, after that its been fine.

Since everyone is posting top 5 lists, here's mine (roughly in order):

1. Persona 4 Golden
2. Hatsune Miku Project Diva f
3. Soul Sacrifice
4. Gravity Rush
5. Disgaea 3

As critical as I am of Sony and the vita sometimes, I will say that the battery life is phenomenal. PHENOMENAL. Standby mode, at least. I can leave this thing off the charger for days and come back to it with just about as much juice as I left it with. My 3ds, tablet and phone don't even come close in this regard. So, yay, Sony! Did something right :)

Nah. Unless you're craving a backlog, a 16GB card is the way to go. Restrictions help you manage your time and purchases, but an 8GB card isn't enough for few full digital releases and DLC.

DJMAX Technika Tune is a great game and I enjoy it a lot, but it's still something that would've been better suited as a phone game (or even better, as a tablet game). They did do a cool thing with the back touchpad though, which could not be possible elsewhere.

With that said, I would recommend Project Diva f over DJMAX TT any day. That game is a blast. Don't let the fact that it's in Japanese discourage you from getting it!! The game is really easy to figure out, the only thing that's too complex to handle without knowing Japanese is the Edit Song editor, which is absolutely not necessary to fully enjoy the game.

Here's a quick menu reference:

Also the Project Diva wikia has lots of other useful info about the game:

While I plan on getting Project Diva now, I can't recommend DJ MAX enough if you're into rhythm/music games. I think it's super fun and addicting, and also very easy to get into - but hard to master. At first I was leery on the touch based controls but now I love it.

I think Project Diva will be a nice compliment in being button only, but seriously Laughingbanana, if you're into rhythm games at all I can't recommend DJ MAX enough.

Also Terraria is taking too long to get on Vita! I'm almost done redoing the tech tree on PS3. I'll double dip on Vita though, I really want a sandbox fix on the go. My PS3 playthrough is strictly co-op though, so I think my Vita one will be just me dicking around by myself. Have they confirmed cross platform saves/play though? Ok so they haven't yet but it does support up to 8 players co-op or PVP:

"Terraria on PS Vita will support up to eight simultaneous online players, along with competitive leaderboards and (extremely) challenging Trophies!"

WHO IS GOING TO BE PLAYING WITH ME?! I'm a monster in Terraria, a tank and a team player ;)

Not getting it on Vita, I have it on Steam and then tried the 360 version and the controls sucks, can't play this without my G400.

anyway Terraria is way better/more fun than Minecraft, and Vita owners need get it when it hit (well... if the controls is decent).

Problem is that the music licenses and production values add up, and it would probably be very hard to sell it at a price point mobile consumers would accept (look at Bamco's pricing of the Idolmaster spin-offs).

Also phone/tablet OSes have a fair bit higher input latency than dedicated handhelds because they're running a bunch of stuff in the background, which is hardly ideal for rhythm games.

Honestly once I got used to the PS3 controls (movement with left stick, cursor with right stick) I was completely cool. The only issue I can see the Vita version having is switching between generic aiming and precision aiming, with the cursor. Still, I think it's great on PS3 and I've played it with up to 4 people locally on one couch, we had a blast :)

Yeah when I bought DJ MAX it was like... $45 or pretty close to the original price tag of like 50$ or whatever. All those licenses make it more expensive IMO. It was so worth it though, I absolutely love the game.

Treated myself for birthday and got P4G. Should I post impressions (properly spoiler tagged of course, I hate spoilers ;p)?

I agree. It always amazes me when I come back a week later to a nearly full charge.

I really love the Vita. I got the Vita, 6 boxed games, and a 32 GB card from a seller here on GAF for $300. Add in the free PSN deal from that Gamestop promotion a while back and it's been a hell of a deal. I've gotten so much use out of the system. The way you can easily suspend games, do something else, and then get right back into the game is phenomenal. Such a great system, I hope it gets tons of games a la the PSP.

1. Sly4
2. Resistance burning skies
3. Gravity Rush
4. Zen pinball 2
5. Ys7 (psp I know)

Edit, top 5 most wanted:
1. Tempest TxK
2. Ys 4
3. Jak & daxter collection
4. Tearaway
5. New game from the guy behind Toejam & Earl

Please explain Terraria to me, from the screens I don't get why people is always comparing it with Minecraft.
It has crafting and some building, but it's not really like Minecraft. It's much more about loot and dungeon crawling than building and survival. I personally find it more fun than Minecraft because there's a bigger reward for adventuring and the combat is better. I also prefer 2D retro graphics to 3D block graphics.

Having it portable will be like crack.

I've heard nothing but bad things about this
It's average, but better than COD. It'll look like shit when Killzone releases, though.
I hope

Yeah as others said, it's basically 2D Minecraft. The main differences though:

1: Much, much better tech tree. WAY more stuff to craft than Minecraft.
2: Much, much more bosses and end game options.
3. Exploration feels more fun IMO, due to it being 2D and Metroidvania inspired.

I will ! Fox1304 on PSN. Can't wait to play it on Vita. Sooo hard not to buy it on Ps3 :(

Great! I'll add you tonight :) I really want to get a Vita gaf Terraria crew going. Let's craft some fun stuff together!

AWESOME! I still haven't even started the game but own it, just trying to clear my backlog before I start it.

Been gone a bit
