No Yes Minister, no Porridge, no Blackadder, no Jeeves & Wooster, no Father Ted, no Only Fools etc, etc.

Super weird list. My first thought is that some of the people who have composed it just haven't watched many british sitcoms, but AbFab is in the list, which while good doesn't come close to being as good as the above.

This is going to sound strange, but one of the best written shows I've ever seen was Due South, the one where a mountie ends up helping the police in Chicago.

I am currently watching Battlestar and the idea that it is better written than Game of Thrones or homicide of Homeland is crazy talk

Having Star Trek and TNG on the list but no DS9 makes me a little sad.

Agreed.... ds9 is way above both in the writing dept.

Also band of brothers at 88 is laughable.... its top 5 as far as I'm concerned (maybe even #1)

I would also list Married with Children somewhere on the list. It had a lot of cheesy parts but also had some really great moments too and the one liners alone should have gotten it on this list.

I'm surprised that TNG and TOS are on there, but not DS9. DS9 should probably take TOS's spot. TOS was groundbreaking, but I wouldn't call it well written.

LOST more than earned its slot on a Top 101 list with "Through the Looking Glass" and "The Constant". Desmond's entire story arc was insanely well written (as were all the episodes written and produced by Drew Goddard, Brian K. Vaughn, and Jeff Pinkner). Sadly, the 6th season arguably derailed it from being a Top 5 series to a Top 100 series.

Yeah, The Constant is one of the best episodes of TV I think I've ever watched, and I've been watching a lot of TV lately (not confined to just new stuff either).

The phone call between him and Penny was jusT so cathartic. I can't get over how well done it was.

Sopranos is overrated given the bell curve in terms of overall quality as the seasons went on. And that's not even mentioning the piece of shit ending that Chase decided to give to his viewers.

I think back to another recent discussion thread on Deadwood. If any show deserved a shot at completing its story, it was arguably Deadwood -- and I was never even a big fan of the show, but the acting, the writing, the execution of its storylines were much better conceived than some of the absolute rubbish that The Sopranos began to produce later in its run.

The Sopranos had 3 excellent seasons, and then it flagged off and went into different directions when David Chase got bored. The show had an intriguing premise to it, and to their credit, they capitalized upon it in a way that networks could never do. However, alot of shows have come along since, and they have provided better, more crisp storytelling, with little flagging in quality. I cite Six Feet Under. I cite The Wire. Shows like Deadwood, Carnivale, and Rome could have only dreamed of enjoying the same degree of pop culture status and the goodwill of a network behind it that The Sopranos did.

I'm not saying that it's without merits, but this overpraise without acknowledging its apparent flaws mystifies me at times.

People are getting too hung up on the ordering. They're on a list of best written TV shows. It doesn't really matter if its #1 or #100.

Since this was voted on by the WGA and TV Guide and not crazy fans, notice what is missing? Firefly. Good. Show was good, but not THAT good.

haha sopranos haters mad as usual. despite some people's dislike of season 6, it had some of the strongest character moments in the show.

dat limbo scene with tony in a coma. so poignant.

it's funny how The Wire is never accused of treading the same ground around here either. or some people refuse to acknowledge it's drop in quality with that wack final season.

Finally feel vindicated on my Frasier love. Thank you based writers guild!
Why would you need to be vindicated? Show was incredible when it would fire on all cylinders (usually with episodes like the Christmas one or the Ski lodge one with rapid-fire insanity.)

On a list of 101 shows, each of which someone out there disagrees with, like 10 people come out of the woodwork to specifically pick on LOST. And we're still on the first page. Unreal. I don't know of any other TV show in history that people go this far out of their way to ridicule.

It was a popular and polarizing show, and that was before the ridiculously polarizing final season. Not really sensing why this is so surprising or why its worthy of mock outrage.
