Did you play the game? Is it that hard to fathom that this game might reach those meteoric heights where games, film, and narrative merge?

Yes.

Games very rarely touch films in quality of story, and the ones that come close are generally visual novels.

I remember when people were raving about Bioshock Infinite's story and it wasn't anything to write home about.

It's just that there's pretty serious hyperbole included in more or less every AAA game's reviews when it comes out. Bioshock Infinite is a good recent example, as is Uncharted 3. I can't even bring myself to get back and finish BI, and U3 was an incredibly disappointing game.

The Last of Us may very well be a great game. Uncharted 2 was one of my 5 favorite games of this generation, and based solely on that team's strength I'm buying this game. But the reviews calling it gaming's Citizen Kane or the greatest game of all time or whatever are all extremely hyperbolic. If it's fun, it's fun and that's all I give a shit about. I hope it's as fun as Uncharted 2. I hope it's a lot better than Uncharted 3.

I haven't got to sit down and catch up with that show. I guess I should have spoiled for me since I'm not able to watch it as it comes out? Come the fuck on.
Where's the hyperbole in it being gamings citizen Kane? It's not like that's impossible
Not to mention itsa bloody opinion

Don't turn this into a discussion about spoilers. Move on. Don't derail! >_<

Speaking of spoilers. Sony has done a pretty good job of keeping the Last of Us leaks under wraps. I think most of the early let's plays have all been smothered in their infancy.

Let me guess - "HOLY SHIT that intro was incredible. If this game keeps up this quality it'll be my game of the generation!"
Haha keep it up Tricky. Just found this while browsing the awful Uncharted 3 thread:

Tricky I Shadow said:
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – this will be the game of the generation!

I find it cute how you say this for almost every new big game that comes out :D

lol, why do people get so hung up on that "Citizen Kane" shit exactly? Wasn't that from an Empire review? Didn't realise their reviews held such sway on GAF :)

Oh, and out of morbid curiousity, can someone tell me what the gif that got that dude banned was (In spoiler tags obvs). I've seen this week's GoT so I can guess, but still... curious...

I'm a game of thrones fan but I can't watch shows once a week. I have to watch them all together, so I wait till the seasons over and buy the box set! I'm so glad I missed that gif!

I wonder if they got inspired by Day Z, and made that into a multiplayer mode, that would be so awesome. Huge map, infested everywhere, players scattered. Would fit the game thematically and really be different from the standard deathmatch/team deathmatch by-the-numbers stuff.

Don't think the PS3 can handle that. I'm hoping someone has this in the works for the PS4 though.

That is what I am hoping for.

I can go either way, so well see how this turns out. For the sake of gamers in general i hope it isnt hyperbole being thrown around and the game is that good.

I can say one thing, based off the demo this game does look like itll be one of those games to grasp you and not let you go. I haven't experienced that too many times this gen but Uc2 def. did that to me along with Dark/Demon Souls, NiNoKuni, and Dead Space1.

Just to emphasize the little bit of the demo was enough to prove to me that this game is great if its anything to go by.

PS3 can't handle it in all honesty
Maybe next gen with a sequel

I think the reason for me is that I haven't looked at a single piece of gameplay, trailer, preview, etc since the very first time it was unveiled. I didn't even know about the "zombies" until I played the demo just a few days ago. On the other hand with Infinite, I looked at every gameplay snippet I could find, several times.

I've been doing the same as well, maybe that's why I'm not as hyped. I always spoil myself too much on media from games, so I've been avoiding most this time.

It was answering one of two questions. It wasn't tagged before your edit.
It was spoiler tagged. Why would I spoiler tag what GAF thinks about Empire magazine? And the post specifically asked a question and requested it being spoiler tagged. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone, but if that spoiled anyone, it's their fault, not mine.
