What does ''scooping up publishers not to show PS4 games'' even mean?

That they are moneyhatting exclusives/just showing up at MS presentation instead of Sony weeks before E3? C'mon now.

Or just throwing money away so they do not appear on either presentation? :lol

It basically just sounds like they want certain games to be associated with the Xbox One. So say Mirror's Edge 2 is on both platforms, the payoff would be for it to be only shown on their platform. That way all the videos and impressions that circulate will show its button inputs and the previews would mention that they were playing it on that platform. Instant brand association.

I imagine some people might get the idea that certain multi-plats will only be on the console that the developer is on stage for.

Like some people out there more than likely think the next call of duty is only Xbox one because it's only been shown on it in the media.

I guess that's business, but it just seems so uncool and morally wrong, but of course none of that truly matters with money.

I don't find it to be immoral at all, just not a good tactic. The people who watch the conference will for the most part know that the games are on both consoles. If they had video advertisements in GameStop saying "Get the next Call of Duty on XBox One!" it might work better.

I don't know why Sony would even bother showing third party stuff. Destiny makes sense, because Halo is the definitive Xbox series, and Sony have it's creator associating itself with PS4, that's a fair use of conference time. Any third party exclusives too of course. But random third party games? I can't imagine Sony can fit all the first party stuff they want in the conference as it is.

Sony will show Buttcreed. They have a co-marketing deal of some sort with Ubisoft with that franchise. They always promote dat ass...creed.

I think the interesting thing is how quiet Sony has been about their E3 conference while MS is raving how their E3 will deliver dem games. Of course MS needs to do some damage control after the reveal event but I'd imagine Sony should build up quite a lot more buzz if this event is even half as good as people are saying it is.

I think Sony's "secret" weapons are the indies and their open-platform strategy and MS can surely bribe the publishers not to show, but not releasing game and not showing it are two different games.

Even if third parties "technically" aren't present at sony's conference, their games will be announced to both platforms so imo bribing would be money out the window.

By the way it's nearly impossible to buy out big titles such as COD or FIFA. COD alone would cost around 500 million dollars for MS, if not more, not to mention that almost every fifa title sold better on ps3.

Sony has the third parties secured.

In Sony I trust!

I think I'll still be here since you all will likely still be squealing from the Final Fantasy game shown.

E3 focus will be heavy on Sony first party and some third parties. Keep your expectations in check. If you're expecting 20 big games to be shown, you're probably going to really be let down. You already know SE is showing a PS4 Final Fantasy, that's one big game already gone. Sony also have several first party games that need to be shown, so that's a couple more gone and some of you probably have an idea of what studios will be making an appearance. Destiny is also getting its first exclusive gameplay reveal at the conference so that's another part of the presentation gone. Basically, E3 is going to display a good amount of games, but I already get the feeling from some of you that you might be expecting too much. Expect a couple of surprises. That's about it. Don't think you'll get ten surprise reveals or something that will be megaton after megaton. That's not these things work, nor will they ever really work like that.

Probably because people know Sony will deliver on games due to their enormous amount of first party developers. MS not do much...

Ubisoft seems to be a constant presence at Sony conferences.

I don't think Sony has room for anybody to talk in their conference! They have a console to reveal and a launch lineup of games and probably two year lineup as well! If you add a little bit about Vita and PS+ you got yourself a 3 hour presentation so they might even need to slim down their show! MS can throw money as it wants but it won't change a thing.

I'm hoping to see Media Molecule, Naughty Dog, Sony Santa Monica, & Guerilla (New IP).

Expect a couple of surprises. That's about it. Don't think you'll get ten surprise reveals or something that will be megaton after megaton.

My fingers are crossed for Uncharted 4. Naughty Dogs other team (Uncharted 3) shipped their last game 18 months ago now, so I'm hoping that's enough time to get a next-gen trailer ready with a "sometime in 2014" tagline. Fingers crossed...

EDIT: To be clearer, I'm not expecting to see ALL of those studios show up and announce a game, nor do I know any inside info. Those are just the Sony Studios I'm most curious about at the moment, so I'm hoping to hear from some or all of them on Monday. Uncharted 4 may also be a long-shot (especially an ND-Developed U4), but I'm still hoping. I haven't had enough of that franchise yet after 4 games.

Why does it feel like the Final Fantasy game will steal the conference and quite possibly the entire show? That is if Square shows some actual gameplay, even a edited video of this Versus/15 title.

I just do not see any other title garnering as much attention, at least here, i know FF has had its reputation somewhat damaged but this is a fresh new start, new generation, everything is reset back to zero for everyone. I am intrigued by Knack in particular and Drive Club looks interesting but those games are not going to be talked about much. We kinda know what Nintendo will show with HD Mario Kart and a 3D Mario, Microsoft might have a teaser for Halo, maybe Gears

To me its just seems like Final Fantasy 15 will be positioned as the big hurrah of the Sony conference, the last game to be shown, the big elephant in the room and it will garner a ton of attention as "return of the king" and "Square is back, baby!". Seems like a perfect timing, people are tired of military shooters, miss the old days, miss JRPGs.

Unless of course there is something even bigger than that...

Oh now I'm glad I made that post (I almost deleted it) because it sparked Verendus to reply and give us some more fun stuff to talk about . haha

Wise words and I realized I was starting to think of crazy reveals and such. That said, some reveals from Sony and their studios along with what will likely be a reintroduced Versus and Destiny. I'm curious what other third party games we might see that we haven't already known about.

Well they didnt show games so that doesnt count. lol.

But you bet your ass Ubi will be at all 3 big conferences this E3.

It seems like Ubi shows up everywhere the last few years. Sony for AC. Nintendo for Rayman, Just Dance or something, MS for Tom Clancy _____ and Kinect fitness stuff.

Ubi doesnt want to be tied down to a "special long term relationship" or "unprecedented partnershi". Ubi liked to play the field.

Hype deflated, everyone go home.

Is there gonna be a GAF chat for this I presume? Where are we gonna share the megatons?

GAF Gold.

----------------------------------

anything new shown at E3 is really just a bonus for me. I was impressed enough at the Feb reveal to already start saving money.

If I see TLG though, I will faint.

I wouldn't put too much stock in MS bribing publishers to not show up at Sony's conference. Whilst corporate shenanigans do happen, the publishers Sony has tried to court for E3 and beyond aren't the ones who'd be moved thanks to the kind of money they'd actually be offered (were it actually offered). Plus, I somehow don't think MS would actually be that silly to try and attempt such a thing with big publishers. I also wouldn't put too much stock in there being so many Western publishers not showing up on the PS4. If anything, I'd say that the two potentially biggest Western exclusives that could cause shockwaves (one from a surefire commercially massive developer, and one from a pretty successful commercial one but more of meltdown inducing one), will be on the PS4. Basically, enjoy the ride. Both E3 2013 and 2014 will be pretty amazing for Sony fans.

I'm not expecting too many big games. They already have Killzone, Infamous, DriveClub and Knack. I'm expecting maybe 2 more major exclusive titles, plus the big 3rd party games and hopefully some good looking indie games. I'd be happy with that.

I wonder if thatgamecompany is ready to show anything. Probably til next year not I suppose.

Give me an in-game sequence of DriveClub and Infamous SS. Add the trailers of RAD and Santa Monica next games. Show me the console in all its glory. Get one or two surprises in there (Naughty Dog, Square or Capcom), and grant the Vita a decent show, and you've already secured an A from me, Sony.

dude he hyped and buzzkilled on the same page... what the heck, haha.

Yeah I'm trying to keep my expectations in check, Sony could very well have their best conference in years and people would still complain that they didn't show enough and then cue 100 or so hype train crashing in furious flames gifs.

It's starting to feel that way for me at least as it has become what I am most looking forward to, though I'm prepared to be disappointed if they don't show much. Anything would be great, but gameplay is what I hope for.

Knack also has my interest as does Second Son and I hope we get better looks at the gameplay for both.

I think that is what Versus has become for some people: Square's chance to grab that glory they had back in the day when they could be counted on for quality RPGs. And if Verendus is correct, Versus does seem to be SE's first step in building itself back up so there is a lot riding on it from their end as well.

What could be bigger though? A FF7 remake actually being made might cause meltdowns, but I consider that slim to none of ever happening.

I read that as Rockstar and Valve, but that's just me being optimistic for Agent and something new from Newell & Friends. E3 is going to be exciting regardless!

I think PS+ will be more indie-focused on the PS4 with many indie games for free. I expect the Witness to be the first one and free day one.

At least the first 2 years, then maybe it will work as on the PS3 as a way to get people to buy DLC.

My hype train just crashed. Migrating to the Microsoft conference thread now. :(

You might want to bring defibrillator paddles... barely a pulse over there.

this is trollish, i'm just joking

I want MS to drop the DRM crap and put out great games. Industry needs competition. Or things like the PS3 launch happen.
