Your favorite underdog characters?

Sean Matsuda for me, by far:

Sf33soe-sean.jpg

The whipping boy of Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike and apprentice of Ken, I just can't help but get a giddy feeling deep down inside when I see someone play a tough Sean.

vs. Hugo
vs. (a lousy) Ken EPIC finish in this one
vs. another Ken

There are plenty of joke or underdog characters out there, be they rooted in story or actual gameplay mechanics. Got any favorites?

Tennessee Tuxedo all the way

Seriously though Dan is one that always comes to mind from Street Fighter

My boy, Phoenix Wright. He's always almost always screwed with everything against him in a case but manages to pull a turnabout.

Laguna Loire from FFVIII.

If Squall is considered the main hero of FFVIII, Laguna is definitely the underdog/unsung hero.

The guy was a bumbling doofus (with a heart of gold), but against all odds he survives a lot of crazy shit and is ultimately responsible for
saving the world
.

Most recently? Claire from Thomas Was Alone. The entire cast could be seen as underdogs really, but Claire's character in particular was pitch perfect.

Chris Redfield.
Just hear me out. While he's been the star of many RE games. He's always playing second to Leon and his fanbase. Seriously guy just can't catch a break. Whether its RE5 or RE6. Then in CVX,REmake, and RE:R no one really gives two shits about him.

Solid Snake in Brawl
Seriously Snake gets so much hate for his inclusion in brawl. I see it as a perfect fit that changed things up in brawl for the better. Not to mention I enjoyed the roster being a bit more diverse.

Real Answer
Q. From Street Fighter 3rd strike
Guy is all kinds of awesome and one hell of an interesting character to boot. But most talk of him seems to be forgotten. Though he did rank higher on the voting than I thought.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.

This is easily my top choice. I would say Zack from FFVII, too, as he plays a very similar role, but he's become pretty popular since he had his own game.

Apollo Justice from Ace Attorney is another choice. A lot of people give him less of a chance because he's not Phoenix.

This guy! I finished every Pokemon game he was available in with him as my main man. Love Pidgey!

Hey, me too!

Nahman Jayden, aka the Human Punchbag. Kind of wispy looking, has a mousey voice, gets his ass whooped on a regular basis and no one in the police department likes him.

Still kicks major ass.

Estelle Bright from Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky FC.

She's 16 years old, a total ditz, dangerously impulsive, wears Zettai Ryouiki in the untranslated sequel and
has a crush on her adopted brother
. If she were a real life person, I would not expect her to perform such actions as:
  • taking down Sky Bandits who wield guns and bazookas
  • uncovering a mayor's scheme to burn down an orphanage to make way for a resort
  • foiling a military coup d'etat against the queen of Liberl
  • destroying an ancient robotic weapon gone haywire(with the help of her allies and dad of course)

She did all of this while using a measly wooden bo staff and no contrived powers like every other JRPG hero(except for being the daughter of the game's equivalent of Chuck Norris).

Sean was no fucking joke in SFIII: 2nd Impact, though.

I actually really liked imoen for whatever reason

Something about a chick backstabbing powerful bosses that feels so right

Huh, do people really not like Snake being in Brawl? I don't really follow the online Smash community (I just play the games casually with friends), what's their issue with it? Metal Gear is fucking awesome, and Smash Bros is fucking awesome - what's not to like?

I would say most main characters are usually underdogs, no? Otherwise you don't feel like you're going up against the odds.
