The Last of Us - Review Thread [Emargo up, scores in OP.]

Some of the encounters are mandatory, there's no way around them.

For me I was engaged and enjoyed the sandboxes for most of the game. It felt tedious during the last two hours or so, but otherwise they manage to make it feel fun (or at least, I made it fun for myself by using the tactics I did)

Do you feel like the game is that length because it feels like the natural lifespan of the mechanics or that it's that length because they needed it for the story?

Some of them can't be avoided as they are thrown at you and thus have already seen you when you get control of the action.

Most times enemies haven't and you can decide how to approach the situations but there are those forced scenes too.
Sounds great, you have to expect some forced stuff.

Crazy good scores. Not even going to read these, just nice to know the game is impressive. I know next to nothing about The Last of Us aside from the early reveal stuff, looking forward to getting my hands on it now.

I also have to add that it's the best graphics of this generation on a console. It's in the small details, how 2 sofas of 2 different materials can actually look so different. I don't know how to explain it.

I'm not trolling. I'm actually pissed. But whatever I'm calm now. Just think it's bullshit is all and unfair to Naughty Dog and Sony.

I only really want to read 4 of the reviews, Eurogamer, IGN, Giantbomb and Destructoid (No, not because they're the perfect scores.) Any spoilers in any of them?

Yeah wtf is up with that? there is no way i'll watch their video review but no score at the end seems really weird.

They say that they aren't giving a final review right now because they haven't had enough time with the multiplayer. It seems perfectly fair since they want to take the whole game into account with the review.

Patrick doesn't know what fun means if he thinks the adjectives he named prevent any sort of fun. "Emotionally tiring" is especially applicable to fun.

17 - 19 hours sounds too long. Hope the underlying gameplay, scenarios, and encounter design can actually support that.

i love that length, my first re4 playthrough took 22 hours and it was my favorite game of all time

imo if the gameplay is fun and not a gimmick more length is awesome

Reading the Eurogamer review. My God, it sounds good.

Why are people even talking about Polygon when we have plenty of actually relevant sites to read?

Will watch shortly. Aside from that one infamous quote, I loved his Bioshock Infinite review.
I didn't hear any hyperbole from him in this review on that level.

It doesn't seem like he was trying to flex his English Lit BA in this review as much as the BI one.

They're at the very least in the argument for the best developer. The turnaround they've made this generation is quite amazing. They were always viewed as a good/great developer, but in this generation they somehow stepped up in every aspect.

They were always great IMO. I really loved Jak 3 a lot, it was one of the best games I played on PS2. The company really turned around when Amy Henning and a couple of other game designers (forgot their names) joined the studio.

Guys! The greatest movie of all time! Of All Time! The Dark Knight has 18 rotten reviews and 270 fresh reviews on RottenTomatoes.com.
This is nothing. Polygon is just one of the 18 here.

Don't any other reviewer in here get taken out of the immersion when Ellie or any other NPC character can run into enemies without them noticing while you do your best sneaking around? Because that is the one major issue for me so far in the game.

Most else is outstanding.

Yeah, I called out the immersion breaking in my GameSpot review. Ended up loving the game anyway, though.

Then why didn´t they give it to Halo 4 (9) or Modern Warfare 3 ( 8.5 ) ?.

Because the person(s) who reviewed those games thought they deserved those scores.

Opinions.

Not sure if anybody posted thesixthaxis's review but they gave it a 10. They also have some bits from the soundtrack.

What’s Good:

Wonderfully crafted road trip, with superb writing and vocal work
The interaction between the characters, all of them, is top notch
Often beautiful graphics and animation
A haunting, delicate soundtrack
A sensible, sensitive script, with some really touching moments
Staggering scope and ambition
Amazing introductory section, hugely affecting conclusion

What’s Bad:

There are slight issues with pacing in the middle for an hour or so, which feels oddly padded
Very occasional animation and scripting issues

Have you played Remember Me or TLoU?

I've never been a fan of Polygon (I think most of their writing is pretentious as hell) but I also think it's really stupid to mock these scores without having played either game. Like other people have said, it's the UC3 review thread all over again.

I'm not angry or anything, I'm just pointing it out.

Predictable scores, will need to play it for myself really.

totally.the only one i missed was destructoid,i thought they would go lower for clickbait

polygon spot-on due to pro-ms,and everyone else positive ofcourse

A diversity of opinions is not unfair to anyone and should be the expected outcome of any set of reviews.

lol.

i bet you a trillion dollars that the last of us is better than Remember Me.at least everyone in the world will think this way.Polygon gave that game 8.0

polygon IS ms-pr

always doubt what you read from them and even better, just ignore the site.....
Not sure if facetious but this is what I'm talking about. Is this a genuine claim or is it fanboy skepticism because PS3 titles don't fair well here? And if it's true, then isn't an agenda like this some form of dirty business? THAT is my only concern... based on these claims.
