Planetside 2 ?!, Free to Play on PS4 ?!, AWESOME.

So many choices.

How the hell is Planetside2, a game that can bring Ivy Bridge i5's to their knees and to my knowledge the most CPU intensive game out there going to be brought to the PS4 with it's weak Jaguar CPU?

Expected and awesome.

PS4 is getting hotter everyday.

Closed box efficiencies.

I don't know what GW2 is, but DOTA2 would never work on a console. Team Fortress 2 on the other hand is the best multiplayer game of this generation.

Guild Wars 2 - I know Sony announced some sort of deal with NCSoft a few E3s ago but nothing ever came of it.

If rumours are to be believed then LoL could be coming to consoles (maybe XBone?) - if people could get MOBAs to work on consoles then yes, I'd love to see it. Plus with the PS4's in built streaming it'd be pretty fun to track players in-game.

And TF2 is too fast paced for consoles in my opinion, though still an excellent game.

The only fast class in TF2 is the scout. All others are kinda slow, I want a 1080p 60 FPS version of TF2 on both Xbone and PS4

I had fun with PS2 when I was playing it, but the version I installed through steam had crazy patching issues and was constantly wanting to redownload the entire game, so I just uninstalled it. If it stays F2P and I end up with a PS4 I could see myself giving it another go though (even more so if KBM support was included).

That's a whole lot of great stuff free to download.

I'm starting to like this F2P trend a bit more.

Sony, preinstall it onto every hard drive that ships with the PS4. That's how you build up a franchise and player base, do it Sony.

If only the game was that good for solo players =/. You can never find combat like that when you're alone. The game seems lifeless if you don't know people and don't know what you're doing. And it certainly does nothing to help you either.

I have no friends playing PS2, but on my server (Lithcorp which merged with Cobalt) I've rarely had issues finding a Vanu platoon with good waypoints and leaders telling us what to do.

A sub 500$ machine that can play Planetside 2 well is amazing. It's not that hard to get into, just start by reading a bit online, join a squad/platoon (platoon is four squads) and follow waypoints and shoot enemies. After a while you'll learn more about shields and stuff. I watched Levelcap to learn about what some patches did when I was gone for a while.

Edit: Just a PSA. Don't be an illiterate fool and join Vanu Sovereignty ;)

Is this really a legit question? Do you understand the core advantages that game developers have in closed hardware systems? This game will look fantastic on PS4.

It really is. Do you understand just how badly Planetside 2 destroys the best of PCs?

Maybe we can stop comparing console and PC specs 1:1.

It's poorly optimized CPU wise. If you look at the utilization in Windows you'll see it. With my i5 3570k (four cores) they're all around 50% utilization. An eight core Jaguar at 1.6Ghz should have around the same raw power as two Intel cores (Sandy, Ivy and Haswell are fairly similar) at a little over 3Ghz judging by Cinebench 11.5 scores.
Oh right, I forgot about CODED TO DA METAL. The difference between a Jaguar and an i5 is much larger than the difference between the PS4 GPU and a 7970.
The PS4 GPU is 1.84GF while a 7970 Ghz edition is 4.3.

The developers have admitted several times that the game has hardly been optimized at all and it's not very high on their priority list for the time being. It's likely their engineers were busy with the PS4 version, so I have faith they'll take care of PC players soon.

Also: an AMD based PS4 version could mean good things for AMD PC players.

Never played Planetside 2 before, already had my fill of DC Universe during the beta. What I really want is that Marvel Heroes mmo on consoles though.

Amazing :D

What I like more about these is, when I got my PS3, I couldnt afford any game, so I "played" PShome a lot...Seeing these, means when anyone buys a console, will at least have a few free titles to play, and good ones actually.

just lower the max draw distance to 4000 or 2000. I run the game at ultra, runs really well on my 1055t + 7970 and 4 gigs ddr3

Draw distance isn't a factor when people 50m from you disappear because you've reached the maximum player count. Taking a tech plant or some other large, open base with 100+ fellow VS always has me running at 30fps. The graphics are quite scalable, but the CPU side isn't so much. A quick google search of your CPU and PS2 shows many people complaining about a bottleneck.

Also, that draw distance reduction sucks when you're flying a galaxy and an enemy aircraft pops in out of no where.

@ThreePiMatt: A 3770 is probably an order of magnitude more powerful than the PS4's Jaguar CPU.

Its overclocked as well. Unfortunately its not the K, so my overclocking is limited.

They will offload some less essential stuff to compute and game will drop to 20fps in too heavy situations, nothing new for console space :)

I'm sorry but this is just false. I have been playing PS2 since the very first closed beta and all I've heard from developers is that optimization is certainly a priority and something they have been working on since the games release.

The fact of the matter is Planetside 2 is not like any other game. It is extremely demanding not just in terms of visuals but because simply because of the scale of some of the conflicts.

Obviously SOE would not be working on the PS4 version if they didn't believe it was a capable machine, however I wouldn't expect the game to run flawlessly either. If you jam enough people into a small space even the highest end PC you can buy right now (which is better than a PS4) WILL buckle and drop below an acceptable framrate.

It's just something that you have to come to terms with right now playing the game on PC. The majority of the time the game will run perfectly fine, but as a player you are not restricted at ALL and the game is not instanced so theoretically there could be 2000 players all fighting over a base the size of a COD map and no PC nor the PS4 would be able to handle that.

Console games typically are well optimized or they're not. This game is different as the circumstances which you can find yourself and the demand on the machine can differ so greatly. It will be interesting to see how well they can get it to run but I think anyone expecting the game to run flawlessly on a PS4 has their expectations set too high.

It's gonna be free for everyone, right? Not gonna be:
