I question the integrity of the entire site based on their actions and reactions since launch. They are constantly at the center of self-created drama, which inevitably causes droves of people to click on links to their site, which is revenue for them. If Last of Us was the first or even second time Polygon has taken the spotlight for something like this which resulted in swarms of people going to their site, it would be one thing. As it is, it seems like like their "go to" for drawing in readers.

Polygon was dead to me the second they defended the Sim City debacle.

What reminds me most of Uncharted is when a group of foes are forced on you and when you need to help your NPC partner up to a higher ground to get a ladder and what not so you can get up too. Totally reminds me of Uncharted. :D

Can I clear my Bioshock and Assassin's Creed 3 backlog before June 14th I wonder.
You can clear the Assassin's Creed 3 backlog really quickly: get rid of it. You may like it in the beginning (playing as the older guy), but it gets awful VERY quickly and it will become an absolute chore. I actually hate that game now and I had very high hopes for it, but it let me down in nearly every way.

Why does the 7.5 review have to mean anything other than the reviewer had a different opinion than other people about the game. Also comparing the scores the site or even the reviewer himself has given to other games as a means to rate what games they think are best is silly as well. Reviews are not meant for building a hierarchy of games where every 9 is better than every 8 and every 8 is better than every 7. Every review is weighed against a great many contextual factors that can differ greatly between games. Instead of being mad that there exists a dissenting opinion you should be happy that a dissenting opinion does exist even if you disagree with that opinion because it's healthy for criticism. Every person in this thread that has questioned the guys review themselves have a dissenting opinion about a ubiquitously praised game for sure. This is fucking neogaf, a forum where it is ever so commonplace for people to shit on games that a large majority of people like. This reviewer gives a tepid score of TLOU and people question his integrity.

So you're hating on poster's opinions that a reviewer's opinion sucks.

Why do you have to care about what other posters think? Posters post their opinion and you question their integrity.

This game is nothing like Uncharted, it's very slow paced with few resources and a dark story.

but I thought the general American audience didn't like depressing stories? They want the Hollywood one with a hero and a good ending. Maybe times has changed?

I'm confused. Reviews mention the spore thing is super contagious, yet I see the main character beating zombies up at melee range.

And he can see through walls with his mind?

Here's a piece that I found on reddit a while ago that helped me to better understand 10/10 ratings.
Credits to jbradfield:

You can give an imperfect game a perfect score because review scores are not a metric of quality; they are a metric of recommendation. When a reviewer gives a game a score of five stars, or 10/10, or whatever, he isn't say that the game is flawless, or that no better game has ever been or will ever be made. He is simply giving the game his highest possible recommendation—something along the lines of "everyone with the slightest interest in video games should absolutely play this game."

Fake Kaz is killing it today.

This is straight-up amazing.

Are you absolutely sure you're all over it?
Not sure what you're trying to say but I gather you, too, are finding something out of nothing lol. There are people genuinely upset with he score, but my question has caught the attention of so many. I don't follow journos so I have no idea who is who and who sponsors what. But I saw claims here about MS funding or whatever and decided to ask. That so strange?

You can turn off the see-through-walls stuff.

You will only beat up the Clickers if you have a melee weapon on you or else you stand no chance. Runners you can beat up bare hands.

It really feels like I'm finding ressources most of the time and I'm playing on Normal difficulty. Do this change 6 hours into the game?

There's an ebb and flow to it. You'll find at times (and I mentioned this in my review) that you can be full up on everything. Then you may hit a point where you use up most of it and you're scrounging for ammo and such to get you through that next encounter.

I'd love it if there was a little nod to the number of times you either help someone get to a ladder, or someone nearly falls but is grabbed and helped up at the last second in UC

I think I have only ran out like twice or three times but I'll pay it some more attention when I continue my playthrough tonight.

I feel like Sessler brings up a better point about after man dies plants grow and split rock and destroy buildings to get the water and sun and nutrients they need to live. They don't have guns but it doesn't make them any less likeable. It just means they do whatever it takes to survive and that is what I imagine Joel and Ellie are doing. The old rules of society don't apply anymore. Violence is a part of life now for them. It isn't for us in today's world because we don't have to hunt and kill our own food or fight against raging mutants that want to eat us. I think the violence makes sense in this context and doesn't take anything away from the experience. (Mind you, I haven't played the game yet obviously, so this may change once I do. I have for years wondered about Nate's murderous rampages in the name of treasure in Uncharted, but I like to think ND have considered this and play it out in a much more mature and self-conscious manner with TLoU, but we'll see.)

Thank you for this. Just watched the Sessler Video Review.

The funny thing is how Polygon switches from "Best critics EVAR" to "LIARS!" depending on which game they review.

He can't see through walls with his mind. It's a game mechanic to illustrate what he can hear. You can only "see" those enemies if they're making noise, when they stop you can't hear/see them anymore. you can also turn that off if you want as mentioned in a previous post.

Just arrived home and started reading reviews.

In Eurogamer, reviewers from different EG country sites commented on how much they liked it. Even the Founder chimed in his appraisal.

I don't remember the last time a game got this much appraisal from so many different reviewers.

Looks like an unmissable title for whoever owns a PS3.

Still a single player game for me and I can't justify spending 60 dollars for just 10 hours of entertainment. Rent at redbox for me.

I have a question. I checked Metacritics and i see that Polygon.com wrote that a survival horror needs compromises, what do they mean with this? Please no spoilers about the actual game.

And this is why I shall laugh with glee if anti-used DRM comes to both consoles next gen. People not willing to support the developers don't deserve to play masterpieces like this.
