Outstanding

I really hope this is a joke post.
Seems the oversensitive, drama-sniffing bottom feeders really love my post. I'm not sure how people are reading that but I'm simply asking if the claims are true and if that is even okay. There is not an ounce of anger or resentment over the fucking score in my post. I don't give a shit. But I was genuinely curious if they really are funded by MS as people have claimed and if something like that was illegal? Sorry for the ignorance, but please cut the pretense.

given that guy would do the same if not worse to you and Ellie? it's not like the people you are killing are peace loving hippies (those types die early in the post-apocalyptic world if they even last that long)

I do understand the survival thing. You gotta kill them before they kill you! I do wonder how many gamers will actually get into the story and fight for survival but also think how the young girl feels or are they just killing because the game said they have to just to progress?

Almost want to play this to see how the story pans out, since the combat side does not really interest me that much.

How should a 10/10 be granted then? I think the only reason to give a game a perfect score is when it is as close to flawless as possible. Although with big budget games basically being scored on a 7-10 scale with a few games being terrible enough to be outliers, I can see why this game would deserve close to 10.

10/10 should be taken that it's the cream of the crop, the best of the best, the top in it's field. It doesn't mean it's flawless, but instead, its strengths far outweigh it's weaknesses.

The way I see it:

10- a masterpiece
9- amazing
8- great
7- good
6-average
5 and below- bad
Yeah, I view it similarly. Well, 6 barely above average perhaps so it's KINDA GOOD but you probably have better options unless this game does something particularly uniquely but not very well, 5 being pure average and thus a game that's effectively worthless to play despite NOT being out and out bad, then 4-1/0 various shades of terrible.

Polygon the armond white of game review sites? i'm fine with reviewers not giving it a 10 or a 9 but since it's Polygon it does color my thought process on it a bit.

The difference between game and film in this regard is in film it's usually 1 or 2 gruesome deaths to sell the shock and desperation of the situation. Not 50-100 like in games where the shock value has completely worn off and the game has lost all emotional context.

I learned to really like GB's scoring method where it's not based on decimals or any version of a hundred point scale, and where a full five stars basically means highly recommendable with virtually no reservations.

When all is said and done; Polygons review will probably be the most accurate one. Just like GTA4 that was overrated.

I remember when Gamespot gave GTA IV a 9.5 and then took it down and then put it back up as a 10.

They tried to be sneaky but it didn't work.

just ordered a copy... i was going to wait but after seeing the demo and seeing the reviews I feel this game deserves full price out of me. and for me that is very rare outside of select JRPGs

The Polygon review is interesting. In a totally unbiased way and not exploding at Polygon, what do people think?

I see what he means in terms of the violence pulling people away from the characters they start to care about.
I feel like Sessler brings up a better point about after man dies plants grow and split rock and destroy buildings to get the water and sun and nutrients they need to live. They don't have guns but it doesn't make them any less likeable. It just means they do whatever it takes to survive and that is what I imagine Joel and Ellie are doing. The old rules of society don't apply anymore. Violence is a part of life now for them. It isn't for us in today's world because we don't have to hunt and kill our own food or fight against raging mutants that want to eat us. I think the violence makes sense in this context and doesn't take anything away from the experience. (Mind you, I haven't played the game yet obviously, so this may change once I do. I have for years wondered about Nate's murderous rampages in the name of treasure in Uncharted, but I like to think ND have considered this and play it out in a much more mature and self-conscious manner with TLoU, but we'll see.)

This reviewer gives a tepid score of TLOU and people question his integrity.

I question the integrity of the entire site based on their actions and reactions since launch. They are constantly at the center of self-created drama, which inevitably causes droves of people to click on links to their site, which is revenue for them. If Last of Us was the first or even second time Polygon has taken the spotlight for something like this which resulted in swarms of people going to their site, it would be one thing. As it is, it seems like like their "go to" for drawing in readers.

What's with GameSpot's reviews? Is it not possible for them to make a review without spoiling the game? I just watched Sessler's and I feel like I know what to expect without any plot points.

Now I can't care any less about review scores BUT with that 7.5 amidst the higher scores, is there an ulterior motives here? I see people claiming being sponsored by MS/Xbox so is there reason to call bullshit? I mean, can't Naughty Dog investigate, are there laws being broke or is this standard practice?

Like I said, I don't care. I'm all over it. But the claims here make me think something more "dirty" is at play.

Are you absolutely sure you're all over it?

Man I can't wait to experience this game on June 14th! I was already hyped considering Uncharted 2 is one my favorite games ever, but these reviews has my hype in overdrive!

I am on vacation next week. Thank goodness I have E3 to keep me preoccupied till Friday!!!!

Only speaking on my behalf, I'm not worrying about Ellie at all when in a firefight or in combat in-game as I haven't seen her die yet. I know ones partners can die if they are grabbed as a life bar will then turn up but I'm only worrying about myself when nobody have grabbed my partner. :)
