TitanFall (EA/Respawn, PC/XB1/360, Spring 2014, Game Informer Leak, All Info In OP)

On PC games mostly you forgot to add..

What's new is dedicated servers for ALL Xbox One games will make those "old ideas" now viable and more widespread on console games for first time ever and give all devs resources they may otherwise never have had as well as cultivating new innovation in its use.

So much greater possibility of more fulfilling online gaming never before on consoles ...no more p2p play in Xbox.
finally!

They are dropping XBLG fees?

I hope you're all happy. :P

I wouldnt be so sure about that. When is Destiny supposed to come out? They will also have Call of Duty and "A new game from the developer that brought you Halo"

I think they will sell pretty evenly with a slight edge to PS4 (unless there is a huge price difference)

Destiny's confirmed third party. And is curiously released next year as well. Both wisely avoiding CoD and BF4.

I agree with this. But I don't think it's any less slimy when they say bullshit like the cloud makes up for lack of RAM. It's very disingenuous.

Also they may get Killzone out at launch which will at least look great going by previous games in the series so I think the PS4 will be fine for shooters.

Wow MS now marketing xbone with COD:ghosts and TITANfall from the makers of COD.looks like no matter how many screw ups they make they will outsell ps4 this holiday

COD is on PS4 as well and Titanfall is not proven (or nessecarliy going to be good / appealing to the same crowd).

Price will dictate who outsells who.

E3 Spoiler: Every Xbox One game will be pushed as utilizing the "cloud."

Will they? I have no idea and I'm not going to pretend I'm at all versed in the ways of cloud computing. I'd just like some answers from MS, but it seems that when an actual developer who is working on both platforms makes a comment about it, it is immediately dismissed as bullshit... so I'm not quite sure what to believe, I'll take the wait-and-see approach.

Ok, I've just read the op. Is this an mmo? campaign multiplayer with the rest of the op makes it sound like mmo. But a short term one. Cause if it was an mmo, they would just say it was. So is this a sixty bux short term mmo?*

*well I guess plus live gold fees.

If it's coming to PC too does that mean Microsoft are allowing PC games to access their Azure cloud computing stuff or are Respawn using another cloud infrastructure (or MS' commercial Azure cloud stuff). It would be good if PC games had access to Microsoft's cloud stuff too.

As far as I am aware the Source engine isn't a DX11 engine so hopefully they are adding modifying it to use some of the nice new features (and some of the quicker operations/functions/methods) of DX11.

The PC wont be using or have access to the cloud.

Can always turn down other settings if the system is too taxed.

You know the cloud is complete bullshit right? There is no way the latency would allow them to do AI calculations. Or if someone was nit connected to the internet.

You might be the only guy on GAF who would make a serious post on the cloud.

They have some previews for these games. I don't know what has been revealed for some of these games, but much of what i've seen so far is known.

COD: Ghosts
Fantasia: Music Evolved
Skylanders: Swap Force
Scribblenauts Unmasked
GT6
Dying Light
Lightning Returns: FFXIII
Watch Dogs
The Bureau
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2
Plants vs. Zombies 2
The Evil Within
Wolfenstein The New Order
Beyond: Two Souls
Need for Speed Rivals
NCAA Football 14
NHL 14
Earth Defense Force 2025
Tales of Xillia
Tales of Symphonia Collection

underwhelming E3

or tons of surprises (even for the media)?

Holy shit I'm going to get high blood pressure from all the salt in this thread. I'll hold off judgement on the game until I see it in motion.

Oh its a FPS I thought it was a TPS. #_#

I'm much more interested in an online TPS. The point of these kinds of games is getting gear and making yourself look cooler, right? FPS misses this. It's a reason why, while I really enjoy it, Elder Scrolls kinda fails for me.

Assuming of course that this in an MMO-lite.

If it was impossible without the cloud, why is there a 360 version? Im confused, obviously the cloud is the same thing MMOs have done for years...ridiculous

first off we don't know maybe 360 is scaled back?

Secondly people are missing that those MMO type resources are not free... MS is providing a shit ton of online servers for offloading AI physics and matchmaking, MMO type opportunities to EVERY GAME on the system

so titanfall is only the new game. thanks :)

so Respawn game is a multiplayer game with some MMO features that is advertised as TEH POWER OF THE CLOUD of the Xbox One. but it also works on other platforms.
hype dead but I'll give the demo (PC) a try whenever that's out.

....

So how about those mechs? That should be interesante. Oh wait there are no screens or gameplay videos yet. But mechs are funnnnn!

Hopefully they find a better game play balance than Starhawk did with the same concept. That will be a HUGE part of this game. It sounds like the evasiveness of pilots is meant to balance the playing field, but that is one hell of a gamble to make for a FPS game. If they're expecting the casual FPS fan to have Mirror's Edge speed runner levels of proficiency to make that balance work this is going to fall apart quickly. If they make it too easy to be a blur when on foot no one will want to "slow down" by using a mech.

Its one hell of a design tightrope to walk. This is why games like Battlefield corridor off vehicles to more limited paths and make air support vehicles difficult to control and often needing multiple people to operate functionally.

its not new. its part of what made me angry in the first place.
why you think 3gb ram and 10% of system are not available to games?
because this shit

anyways, thank you chubigans, thank you cartman for the headsup, and FUCK digital download systems once more!! "MAGAZINE NOT AVAILABLE IN YOUR COUNTRY"

Don't encourage the Kinect...it knows you're angry.

Because it's dumb and making fun of stuff is more fun than just saying "this game is cool, can't wait!"?

It's a first person shooter with a heavy online component with only a few screenshots and pieces of art released. The details are sparse and we'll see more at the MS conference most likely. There's really not that much to talk about besides what the cloud means and the GI leak fiasco.

While I semi-agree in this case, not having enough information to talk about isn't really a good justification for so many positive X1 threads turning into 20+ pages of trash.

This is really underwhelming.

Pretty sure this has been reiterated already, but most people call that "Playing online", the only difference being that Microsoft will be responsible for providing the servers rather than the publishers/developers (and from the sounds of it, they'll be providing ALOT of servers, which could allow for alot more npc AIs). There's nothing really new about what they're trying to do, besides possibly the scale of it in a "non-mmo game" (MMOs have done this for years, technically you could say FF11 on console was "running on the infinite power of the cloud" years before the X-Box One arrived).

Its unfortunate that Microsoft got off on such a wrong foot with describing the capabilities of the cloud by describing terrible uses for it (graphics processing over the internet? lol...) because its clouding (pun intended) the genuine uses of it. Having a large number of dedicated servers can definitely make for larger scale "experiences" (for lack of a better word) when it comes to large numbers of AI-controlled NPCs and is definitely something that can be put to good use by developers.

However, making it a selling point is odd because this isn't something that is unique to the X-Box One anyways, hence the ports to 360 and PC. If Respawn wanted to get this working on any other system, all they'd need is another cluster of servers (I doubt Microsoft would be too happy about having their servers used for ports to other systems), which they might not be getting right away from Sony or Nintendo, which I suppose might be the reason for the stated "intrigue".

Game looks and sounds promising however, I just hope it won't require Windows 8 on PC.

Well of couse cloud processing is playing online? And as someone who played MMOs for a decade, I can say that the servers themselves were meant to handle players themselves and NPC immersion second (hello static spawns!). The difference here is by limiting the amount of players now, from 1 to whatever, you can do some new things immersion wise. The X1 handles the players, and now the servers only do NPC AI calculations plus whatever they want to add in. You could make Skyrim with scores more NPC interactions and a much more living world. From people moving, building, taking territory, etc... to the point where no two games would be 100% a like in the world (yet the gameplay is unaffected).

I actually see some serious innovation on the immersion stand point if good developers leverage cloud processing well. And I think this game might be the first of many to come to use the cloud for "large scale NPC processing."

Only thing that sucks about this is if it works out, I wonder how many companies will keep, or even offer, dedicated servers open for the PC community where I do 90% of my gaming. I see subscriptions coming somewhere, somehow...

I don't think there is much in the way of financial damages here. I would hope MS understands that it was someone's error and just gives Game Informer a stern warning. They may not receive an exclusive from MS for a while.

I think you paint a much more forgiving picture of corporate America than actually exists. Someone loses their job over this, maybe the just the low level peon who made the mistake, but someone will have to be sacrificed. These kind of things are too big a deal given the start of a new console gen and it being so near E3. I'm sure MS spent a boatload on PR related to this game and now that plan has a big hole in it. I'm sure plenty of folks there are pissed.

Anybody has a guess which developer could do the 360 port? I don't think it will be a EA studio. Maybe someone like Digital Extremes?

Great point. Starhawk failed to get that balanced. You want strategy and preparedness or pure numbers to be able to overwhelm a mech -- yet you want that mech to be powerful enough to wipe out normal human enemies. It's incredibly difficult to get that right and I hope they do.

Is every game going to be the same shit next gen? This just sounds like COD. So does every other game announced. Theres COD in space, COD dogs, COD mechs, am I missing another one?

I'm not looking to invalidate you in some way that is rude but you do realize with more powerful HW that it's all the same right?

And so people don't forget, you can bet PS4 will be using some of the same techniques but at this point we all know it's more powerful than the Xbone.

That's about as rationally as I can take this at this point.

TitanFall will be on PC. No cloud required there.

Hopefully Respawn is smart enough and talk to EA to put the PC version on other places outside of Origin.

The only thing I could see is if they went the WoW/Diablo 3 route and they just had their own launcher, since this seems very online focused.

This will never, ever be on Steam.
