Sakurai confirms Smash trailer at E3 direct!

What do you think the chances are of alternate costumes this time? Would really break up the monotony of four colors for everyone.
I really hope they do this, like giving Mario a Dr. Mario alt. Heck, make them unlockables. All the more reason to keep playing the game.

I hope Wario's classic costume gets the Smash textures this time. It was kind of weird how Classic Wario was the only one without detailed textures in Brawl. Even Waluigi assist trophy had denim overalls, rather than the clean designs.

I would argue that was for weirds sake.

So, does this mean the game won't be playable at E3, or will? I mean I've always doubted it would be playable but Kotaku ran that thing saying it would be or something.

It could very well be playable on the floor and the reveal trailer is just for the ND. We won't know for sure till after the ND I'd assume.

Kirby should "puff" his adversaries back out, naked... (or in underwear). Could offer some hilarious moments/animations. It also kind of makes sense, since he borrows their accessories. It could leave the opponent more vulnerable for other attacks.

Do it Sakurai!

there's supposed to be strong focus on customization, it's possible that it could extend to alternate costumes I guess.
Would be nice if they did what Last Story does and allow us to change the colours of costumes any way we like (within reason). Like one extra sot for a custom colour so as not to interfere with team colours.

I really want alternate costumes instead of just re-colours, it was my only real problem with Brawl.

I don't think alternate costumes can really replace recolors. They'd need 3 alts per character, after all. And some recolors are pretty classic themselves, like Fire Mario. I would like alts in addition to them though, like how Wario was handled in Brawl.

Namco's fighters have always alternate costumes, I wouldn't be surprised if this time there are alternate costumes. Plus is not like they can't have both recolors and alternate costumes.

Bayonetta would be great but wouldn't they omit her guns?
I remember reading they didn't give Snake any normal guns because it was too violent or something, but they gave him the rocket launcher because it was more 'comical'.

Yes, I think one the things that most needs right now smash as a crossover figthing games is altarnate costumes for every character, at least 4 for each one. JUst imagine retro versions of some characters *drools*
They can also add things like Daisy that way, Peach having an alt costume that changes her name and voice, and she doesnt have a separate box on the character select screen.

Well Namco has the advantage of just being able to make up costumes willy nilly. With Smash they have to make references. At most I'd expect one alternative costume in a series of colours like Wario. But certainly not multiple costume in place of colours.

They could make them just shoot 'energy', or more cartoony looking bullets. The games already have stuff like Fox's blaster and the super scope, so it's not like guns are a complete write off.

Oh shit what happens if they announce that it is playable on the show floor just like at the end of the Melee reveal trailer!?!?!?

I can't believe I had to cancel my E3 trip this year.....

If it is happening I can see it not being a set number. Someone like Olimar would probably have no costume, while Mario could have a few.

Aww, I would have preferred it to be (somewhat of) a surprise. Oh well.

Bayo has a lot of different guns, some are more comical than others. She can dual wield laser guns or rocket launchers, for example.

I don't think Bayoneta will be in, but, IIRC, they wanted to avoid a T rating in the west by not using guns, and they failed to do that, so I guess there shouldn't be a problem this time.

ZSS is fine, her moveset is actually interesting, ideally no character should be cut.

It's not the moveset per se, it's the way that ZSS blatantly disregards the character of the Metroid games. It's sort of similar to why people dislike Other M so much. As an analogy, it'd be like SSB4 featuring Link and Cartoon Link (by which I mean "Excuuuuuuse me, Princess" Link). No matter what the moveset is people would be understandably annoyed.

Return the dojo!
Part of me really wants this to return, but on the other hand, it kind of took away some of the wow factor discovering the secrets in the game (not to mention Japan got it first and huuuuuuge wave of spoilers). Maybe if they changed it to once a week so then we don't get days of "This is how you jump!" & "this is the main menu!".

Wasn't everyone already expecting a trailer? I don't give two shits about that. Give me a time-period so that I can put down my money for a wii-u

I don't want to be "that guy" but I am pretty worried this game is going to be rushed to hell. Sakurai seemed disinterested in it for a long time and has only been working on SSB4 for about a year. Couple that in with Nintendo in panic mode and I'm worried they are just trying to push this game out like they did NSMB 2.

Melee was developed in nine months and was rushed out for the release of the Gamecube, yet it is quite the masterpiece, compared to the bloated, over-delayed Brawl. If anything this could be a good change of pace.

EDIT: no but seriously I agree. Zero Suit Samus is a travesty to the character. I just don't get how you can turn something that's essentially just a small reward for fast game completion into an entire character. I mean I guess MZM has that brief ZSS section, but then the whole point of that section was to strip you of all your power at what seemed like the game's apex into to illustrate how fragile you can be and yet still persevere.
I disagree. Samus without her suit introduces a very interesting mechanic. She is a genetically enhanced superhuman being after all, so she's still extremely capable even without her armor. She's simply trading raw power and survivability for more speed and agility and stealth capabilities. If anything, activating and deactivating the armor at will should become a mechanic in future Metroid games.

Not really.

Brawl has a lot more interesting stuff in it than melee does.

You can not like the gameplay all you want ( even though I dissagree)

as far as content goes, let him take his time

My word didn't run out of room on the disc last time? Also, if I remember right brawl was one of the first wii games to use a dual layered disc.

I'm almost scared what they would do with a 25gb one.

What the fuck is this shit? Who was annoyed by Zamus? What? She was absolutely fine.

I hate roster discussion more than anything when it comes to Smash. It's so dumb.

I don't see how you could say she's trading it for more speed and agility? Maybe if you've only played the Prime games where she handles like tank, but in all of the 2D Metroid series and in Other M as one of the few things she actually did get right, the Power Suit and its variations give her incredible speed. You can move waaay faster in ZM suited compared to non-suited. Possibly suit-less would give her more agility and stealth, but it's not like you can really integrate stealth mechanics into Brawl, which leaves her with... more agility, which isn't really that useful as a sole selling point, especially when Samus should be pretty damn agile anyway.

Cannot wait for next week.

I want the dojo back, and I really hope that the new trailer follows a similar path of the Brawl one.

Open with the four mains: Mario, Link, Pikachu, and Kirby

Then introduce four newcomers: Waluigi, Shulk, Little Mac, and Palutena

Then introduce a surprise third party guest: Mega Man

Crowd goes wild, Nintendo wins E3! :D
