Sakurai confirms Smash trailer at E3 direct!

♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥

Wonder what kind of omg its Snake! moment this trailer will have. Maybe Shulk.

Dude, if they can get Banjo Kazooie, people will explode in pieces. Wont happen but hey.
Bayonetta is a pretty good candidate with the exclusive sequel.

It's for Wii U and 3DS, although it's kind of hard to say which one they'll be showing off and if there are any differences between them.

They SHOULD show off the Wii U version more, personally. Wii U needs all the pushes it can get and SSB is one of the best things it can have going for it right now. 3DS would basically just be icing on the cake, and I'm hoping we'll at least see either some screenshots or a bit of footage from that as well.

I just hope the 3DS version doesn't limit the Wii U game in any way. I want Smash 4 on the Wii U to be a glorious graphical spectacle, like Melee and Brawl were.

He has a point. Samus without her suit is like Link without his sword and bag of holding.

All they have to do is make Samus playable again.

I love how Kamiya gets bombarded with tweets after the announcement of the Smash trailer. His replies have been great.

Fuck off and follow your mom. RT @Lopsided_Pasta: what a douche. UNFOLLOWING

Those were all created after Smash Bros. Brawl, when Sakurai continued his complete devastation of a beloved classic character. Gone is the stoic muscular man based on ancient Greek heroes, and instead we get some new, streamlined and casual, anime-fad inspired FILTH. He keeps cracking jokes while human beings are dying in the land. The old Pit was never so callous. What is it with Japanese developers and their nascent counter-Greek attitude, and why did they ruin Pit in such a way?

I'm not talking about realism? I'm talking about faithfulness. Game&Watch using innocuous objects to attack is pretty much as inline with his games as you could expect with putting him in a fighter. Zero Suit Samus isn't, in the same way (only obviously not anyway near to the same extent) as putting Excuse Me Princess Link in as Link's representation would be.

That was poor word choice on my part; I meant real to the games.

Smash has never been like that since the beginning when they gave every not-Kirby character a double-jump.

You have converted me to your cause. Henceforth, I shall proudly fight for the Pitt that inspired Kratos and the God of War series, not this animu shit.

Well, just as a gameplay example, if you take something which reduces the Power Suit's energy to exactly 0 and no more, you die rather than remain alive.

It's because she's inside the suit too. If the damage was big enough to destroy the suit, she's likely taking damage and goes alongside it too. I don't see any evidence that it has some kind of life support system considering how she has been shown without her suit. If there's some kind of optional life support that kills her if the suit loses power, why can't she just turn it off before dying?

Also, in Super Metroid, Samus can willing remove her armor for a bit to use the special recovery.

Yes, but in Zero Mission she can't take out anyone at all. Full stop.

She has a stun gun there, and that translated into a stun gun in Smash. Her basic movements also follow the same animations they had in that game. They just also added knock out attacks with a beam whip to make her playable. Zelda back in OoT couldn't really beat anyone important, both as Sheik and Zelda. At her best, she could stun Ganon with the help of all sages, and yet she still became a playable character with two completely unique forms in Smash. There are many characters less faithful to the source than ZSS, who's still pretty close overall.

If this isn't some bullshit reveal, but a full trailer with a decent roster showing.. Nintendo just won my heart.

I honestly have to admit that I really do hope Bayonetta gets into the game. Just for the fact that PG games should sell more copies and her being in what is bound to be one of the best selling games on the system could help the sequel...

Hopefully (and probably) not graphically, but if you want to call it a limitation, I don't have a single doubt in my mind that there's going to be some sort of connectivity feature between the two versions. I remember reading Emily Roger's tweet that it'll eventually be beneficial to own both a 3DS and a Wii U and a game like Smash would be fit that like a glove.

Probably something like unlocking characters in the other games. (ie, say Mewtwo is in the Wii U version, and the new Mewtwo forme is in the 3DS version. If you connect your games to each other, you'd be able to play as Newtwo in the Wii U and regular Mewtwo in the 3DS version)

I'm guessing most of you already have Wii U's, but for those who don't, is anyone else here willing to buy one just for a new Smash? I mean I'm excited for a lot of other games on the system, but Smash alone can make me buy a console. The games are that good.

Smash is the only reason that I got it day one, along with Mario and Zelda of course (and more recently Sonic Lost World yeaaaaaa). I also had wads of cash to spend at the time lol.

For me Smash has made every system it's been on worthwhile, by being a great complimentary and mainstay game.

Kamiya really needs to smash up those smash fans. I know how terrible they are and honestly they deserve more beating. You'd think they'd take a hint that he isn't handling Bayonetta 2.

Smash 4 hadn't been in development for that long, has it? I don't think we can expect a 2013 release, sadly :(

It has had more than one year of actual development, and planning stages go further back. Hopefully, now that they have a competent core team again, they won't be as slow as they were with Brawl (Gamearts).

what about King Hippo?! I love fighting against the big characters. I hope now that Nintendo sort of cares about online, we will get patches and re-balancing with SmashU. If Nintendo can somehow pull off having NES royalty (even though not their IP) I will die. FUCKING. DIE. But more than anything, I want Nintendo to put in some super obscure characters. Maybe someone from For the Frog the Bell Tolls? Or one of their Famicom Adventure Games.

Shulk with Marth's moveset? :/
That'd be weird. And lazy.

I would love to see Prince Sable or Sukapon in Smash 4, but considering they were relegated to sticker status in Brawl I'm not getting my hopes up.

I really hope they focus on New Series, both retro and new, for the initial Character Reveals.

Because the armor is heavy. Probably so heavy a regular person couldn't use it. She doesn't have to be bulkier. Maybe she could have more definition at least.

My point about not wanting her to look like a model stands. Dozens of female characters appeal to beauty. Samus doesn't need too.

Don't take my criticism as hate for the ending pictures from Metroid games. They show Samus as a strong woman. To me, anyways.
The armor is certainly heavy, but it's no plate armor from the middle ages. It's a powered exoskeleton. It doesn't require strength to wear, it augments the strength of the person wearing it. It's fundamentally the same as Iron Man's armor or the hardsuits from Bubblegum Crisis.

But more than anything, I want Nintendo to put in some super obscure characters.

I agree with this. Part of the fun of crossover games is learning about cool "new" characters. My favourite characters in MvC were Jin Saotome and Captain Commando. Certainly hadn't played their games before.

I wonder if Fire Emblem is big enough to be one of the initial reveals this time? Especially with Metroid being kind of dead right now... If it's anything like Brawl's initial reveal, I guess we'll see 3 new characters from standard franchises, then one old character returning (Little Mac? Takamaru? Mach Rider? Balloon Fighter?) and finally a big third party reveal. Although I guess Little Mac might not be considered a 'classic character' considering how he had a game for the Wii.

Hope List:

Lil Mac
Ridley
King Dedede
King K Rool
Mega Man

Shulk with Marth's moveset? :/
That'd be weird. And lazy.
Marth's basic move set with modification. The right stick could trigger basic attacks while the special attack button does monado attacks. I didn't mean a direct copy... Look at Captain Falcon and Ganondorf or Metaknight and Pit as a reference. They are basically the same character design tweaked in different directions.

You think they'll replace pokemon trainer with a protagonist from the more recent pokemon games?

He's kind of like Marth. He was the protagonist of the first game, not of the most recent games when Melee/Brawl were made. If they were included in spite of that, I don't think they're suddenly going to be removed and replaced by newer representatives. The idea with them was never "newest hero!", but "first hero!".
