Sakurai confirms Smash trailer at E3 direct!

Here's who I hope is in the game:

There's not really any more characters I have a strong interest in seeing playable. Brawl's roster feels "complete" to me and as long as every character comes back, I'll be satisfied.

I like how everyone is now completely content with Jigglypuff. Total joke character, but now a mainstay.

You have awful taste if you don't think at least Little Mac and a Golden Sun rep need to become playable.

I'm not. I've been asking her to be replaced with Team Rocket's Meowth for years now, or at least add him into the goddamn game as a playable character.

There will definitely be quite some cuts this time around. It's not as much for making the roster complete as it is for making it feel refreshed. 35 characters is a bit hard to balance, and even if they increase them to, say, 42, they only have room for 7 new characters and there are too many more options, both new and old.

I'm hoping they find another way to handle clones. For example, remember Wario's double model? If they added new voice overs and a few minor animations, they could have multiple characters on one slot and hence less work on them while still containing the character. I'm not talking about alternate costumes by the way; I mean, Captain Falcon has the Blood Falcon costume, but that's not Blood Falcom himself -- we could have both alternate costumes and alternate characters for each slot.

I doubt we'll see very many cuts, if any cuts at all, this time around. The brawl roster is very fine-tuned, with very little room for cutting characters without annoying substantial fanbases. And after the backlash from cutting Mewtwo/Roy, I doubt cutting characters will be something Sakurai would want to do.

And it's worth noting that any cut characters could very well come back as DLC...

Its quite likely that Snake is not coming back.

Sincerely, thats the only character I wouldn't mind if they cut out.

That would be a shitty decision, this king of fighting crossover games are not only done for being fighting games, but a museum of sorts. Thats why you will always need to include new characters.
Also theres still some characters that havent appeared that could be cool in the roster, and even characters from new IPs like xenoblade.

if snake's out we riot

Snake's edition was probably the funniest thing ever. He fitted in well thanks to the great artstyle, but in context he didn't. But that's what was so funny. His quick jerky ass animations, his "now" detonation, and just fighting Nintendo characters was funny to me, my friends and family lol.

I hope he comes back but I have doubts.

I definitely think there's still room for new characters, even if they're planning on keeping roughly the same number of players as Brawl, or even less. Ax throwaway characters (Rob, Wolf, Lucario, Zero Suit Samus, etc), replace certain characters with alternative movesets that better showcase modern Nintendo games (Marth --> "Marth", Ganondorf with a new moveset, Luigi could have some vacuum related attacks, etc), and then bring in a completely new cast of characters to fill in the spots of those taken out.

There's still plenty of room to include new characters and such in this next game. Lil' Mac, Paluntena, Waluigi, etc are all classic characters which are still relevant today, all have great potential for movesets, and would easily get praise from fans

Well you're definitely not alone, but I think she's a reminder of the humor behind Smash. Would I miss her if she was replaced? Not really, but I won't be excited or bothered if she's in the next one.

People saying that 35 is the max becuase of balance, do they really take to account what makes a crossover game of any kind special, no?
Becuase even if I LOVE Smash bros fighting gameplay, its not what makes the game really special for me.
Its a nintendo museum, first and foremost.

I'm kinda hoping that the soundtrack and overall feel of this game is more similar to Melee's than Brawl's. Brawl's soundtrack was good because there was a ton of variety and there was literally something in there for everyone, however, Melee's soundtrack and overall feel was utterly divine. Each level got a wonderfully composed orchestral track, and the art style never clashed, making every character and every stage feel like they belonged together. There was a big clash in style for Brawl though, with many stages just ripping songs right out of games, each stage looking completely different from one another, etcetera.

They should keep one style and stick with it. Considering the overall scope is likely being downsized according to Sakurai, I don't think that's too out of the question.

Think I mentioned in some Smash thread ages ago but I think the new Smash will have customisable move sets for e.g. Mario will have 10 different 'B' moves that are unlocked through the course of the game and you customise your Mario by selecting your personal best 4 'B' moves.

This will give them a way to add new moves without pissing everyone off their favourite character is gimped with new moves.

cross out snake and sonic and replace those two with nintendo characters (bring back mewtwo) and i'm fine with this.

and if you play online long enough then special hats will drop every so often

That's how I am atm. I'm a little jaded after Brawl. To be frank, as long as they actually get rid of the ability to cancel hitstun with an air dodge (that's what the issue was, hitstun was actually the same as Melee), the game will instantly be 100x better than Brawl for me.

Otherwise, if it looks like they're keeping that then I'm not really interested.

Well you don't cancel most of your hitstun with an air dodge. Besides that's my favorite part about the game. I could handle a combination of the two styles (Brawl and Melee) but a complete return to Melee's ridiculous hitstun would suck for me.

wat?

While going with BN isn't a bad idea, I'd still say going with Classic would be the best for sheer reverence and being WAYYY more recognizable world-wide.

Other than the PS1(2) smash like game, has EXE been on anything not Nintendo?

He's mostly Exclusive to Nintendo Systems, and that's why I'd like him.

Also, his moveset could be pretty insane with the battle chips.

PROGRAM ADVANCE!

HYPE HYPE HYPE.

Can't wait. I'm surprised at how excited I am.

Regarding MM:

I don't think they'll choose Mega Man. but if they do, it won't be Battle Network, as much as Nintendo is that series' home it's probably been too long and his legacy can't match with Classic's

Very unlikely to happen, if anything a customisable "generic" character like a Mii or
Non-Specific Action Figure
might go down that route though, if what they said about the 3DS version being a more "personal experience" turns out to be worked into the game.

I dont mean to sound fresh, but if mgs collection, 4, 5, and rising are not going to the Wii U... Snake can get the heck out. NOT WELCOME.

They added tripping. They're going to do whatever they want.

So this page has some Jigglypuff hate. Screw you, you can eat her monster dick.

why is she even in the game, her relevance in the anime has been long gone.

Pikachu is Pikachu

Lucario has become a 2nd mascot at the point. Dude took over gen 5.

Metwo has nostalgia behind him( Not as much as people think)

and the Pokemon trainer is relevant no matter what gen they pic.

Sad, but understandable.

They're unique to the roster, keep them.

It also reminds me of the Ice Climber style Sonic & Tails rumors in Melee lol.

But Mario and Luigi are already Shotos. :P

I grab a mallet and start busting heads.

Interesting. Honestly I think the smash roster is unique in the sense that almost every character is justified in a way. There's really no one that stands out for the chopping block or any character that people would unanimously agree on.
