So why did that Adam Orth get fired again? All he did was buy into his company's bullshit and defend it online.
His behavior was inflammatory and unprofessional.

Can this shitty straw man argument die already?
Still can't stop laughing at "Loaning or renting games wont be available at launch, but we are exploring the possibilities with our partners."
And if the PS4 doesn't, I don't see reviews going "Hey these games are identical on both systems but you can't lend it to your friends on Xbox so don't buy it!" in every review.
Craziest thing about the 24-hour checkin is the thought that in 20 years, or whenever Microsoft's servers go down, the console will just straight-up no longer play video games.
I feel bad for Major Nelson. How is he supposed to do PR for this nightmare? This is insanity.
24 hour online check is the biggest bummer to me. Everything else I could live with, I hate the idea of no used games but I'd combat that by waiting for a sale or the bargain bin for every single game I bought. But I can't justify the 24 hour check, there'd be no way around it. You're being treated like a criminal, only allowed permission to play the games you've bought if MS decides it's OK. For all the comparisons to Steam I've been seeing for weeks, this is a thousand times worse than Steam which at least has the common decency of an offline mode.
The 'friends and family can play anywhere' sounds confusing. Surely they wont actually be playing directly from the cloud, so will it have to install each game?
assuming you have to register friends but this would be good if it was like PS3 game sharing. I could split the cost of new games between friends depending how good the experience is for everyone

Further to that craziness is that prior to the Orth affair, they were planning on actually having the thing need to be connected 24/7 for any game to function. This is the toned down version.Craziest thing about the 24-hour checkin is the thought that in 20 years, or whenever Microsoft's servers go down, the console will just straight-up no longer play video games.
none of this bothers me. my internet works, i never plan to buy a disc again so long a digital downloads are available, and my friends can buy their own shit.
and Kinect can listen all it wants. I aint ashamed or paranoid.

It's funny. I pride myself in being platform agnostic these days. But this it is just fascinating, watching Microsoft dissolve over a decade of goodwill in the span of a few weeks. It's like the most brilliant meta game ever conceived in the making.
Then hide it if cosmetics are that important too you?
Microsoft should have just come out and said "hey fuckers, we're going all digital distribution now, suck it!"; it would have a horrible stigma attached to it, but at least would have been clear and easy for consumers to understand.
Instead they're in this confusing limbo transition area between physical retail and digital distribution while none of their customers will be reaping the benefits that either provide.
This is GAF and we're all not even totally sure how to decipher this bullshit here; your average consumer is going to have no idea how any of this works and what their limitations are before they invest in this console, is that some kind of business strategy I don't know about?
Know what's even easier? Not buying it in the first place.
I guess MS done the math and concluded money from sales outweighs losing those who trade and buy used or do not connect to the internet.

Oh and you're all cray if you don't think Sony will have similar trade/rental policies in place.
This is the future of gaming. Adapt or move on to another hobby.
Seriously. Who ever thought we'd hear those words leading up to a console's launch?
Did you attempt to engage him? I did.Which was the post that did it? You know, I've done my fair share of stuff, Kazifying etc, but this guy was "Only on Xbox" Avataring people without them even asking for it. At that point I wondered if it was more than just fandom.
Anyway, have any main media apart from Kotaku picked up on this yet?
if ms is giving publishers the ability to enable/disable game resale, i can 100% assure you this will be on ps4.
Only you and another one of the 10 "family members" can access the games at the same time. Also, for those non-owners, the system requires an internet connection every hour instead of 24 hours.Guys, there's no fucking way MS is going to let 1 game be shared between a group of 10 people. There has to be some sort of catch there. These policies show they want $$$$$$$$ and letting 10 friends share one game would kill sales. Even if only 1 of the 10 is able to play at a time. Can't see this happening.
people should post this on their Facebook + Twitter...
Or when you type something in your profile that gets you banned or snap at some 12 year old on XBL. Bye bye gameys.
Yep. Follow EA's model of planned obsolescence20 years lol, more like 6.
I don't trust M$ with ANYTHING now, seriously how bad of a fuck up can you do. This is just terrible.

the ms conference thread reads like a case study on stockholm syndrome
My friend who doesn't see what the big deal is inspired me to make a Vine on the subject.

Then don't buy it? I'm just saying that "an always connected Kinect" in itself is a fairly lame quality to consider an insulting deficiency. Not liking Kinect styled gaming, and being forced to pay for it as a pack in on top of that are legitimate concerns, but not Kinect having to be connected IMO.
Tbh, this doesn't scare me at all. Guess it affects some more than others, because I'm not quite outraged.
Could someone make an "Adam Orth: A Look Back" thread? I'd find it really interesting to see what folks think of the guy now when he was just saying essentially what Microsoft has said in a more formal tone. Do people still think he got what he deserved?
Seriously, anyone with an ounce of concern over their privacy should look at this and take particular note of slide 4 where it shows Microsoft becoming the first company to join the NSA's PRISM program to collect data on users. This is definitely one of the more troubling things I have ever seen to have it laid out so plainly.

If you doubt your privacy because of Kinect 2.0 and its always-on policy, PLEASE READ THIS and RECONSIDER YOUR PURCHASE.
Save your pity for those who deserve it. Microsoft PR mouthpieces do not.
I imagine Sony will take the same route too.

What is the maximum number of days my console can be offline before it refuses to play all my games?
ONE.
How many people in my family can play my games at the same time as me?
ONE.
If a publisher allows it, how many times can a game be given to somebody else?
ONE.
How many months does someone have to be on my Friends list before I could give them a game?
ONE.
Xbox ONE.
I reposted the flyer and a call to arms in the main thread. Please join us if you'd like to help save our hobby.
Still Do Not Want!
But hey at least they dropped the cloak and dagger BS and finally answered some of the real pertinent questions...
