Sakurai confirms Smash trailer at E3 direct!

I really just want two things:

1. The online to work very well.
2. No DLC.

That's it. The physics could be the same as Brawl. The Story Mode could be your favorite Nintendo characters trekking through a world of fecal matter. I only ask for those two things.

Curious, but why opposition towards DLC for smash? They don't come out very often. It's Sakurai too, so I don't think he'd gimp the game for it.

I would like to see them go the Team Fortress 2 router for DLC in Smash Brothers, give away stages and characters for free, charge money for cosmetic things like new character skins.

Well, one of the reasons Smash is so special is because they don't come out often. A continued stream of content undermines that. Also we're going to have two versions of the game, so additional content would be nice to go towards differentiating them.

While Sakurai loves to pump the games with content, unfortunately he's not the only voice. Nintendo is still the publisher. Because consumers will never know if content is held back, we simply have to take publishers on their word on that issue. In that way, DLC incentivizes publishers to hold back content. After all, you make more money if you can sell more later.

I'd rather this game (especially this game) prove that if you jam pack a game full of content, characters, and stages, then gamers will flock to it. And if you have a great game like Smash Bros., people will continue to buy and play it as an evergreen title. You don't need anti-consumer practices like DLC to make as much money as possible and attempt to draw out the value over the course of the whole gen.

All that said, free balance patches would be appreciated.

If its DLC I dont mind as long as its free. Once you start charging especially if its for new characters your gonna feel like you paid full price for a gimped game.

If it can keep Smash relevant, add more content throughout its lifetime, and make Nintendo the money that it could probably use I don't see why not.

This guy right here:

I'd trade any potential newcomers for him. I'm sure he's the last major retro gaming icon left to be represented for smash, that would make sense. As a third-party series, its connection with Nintendo does seem pretty solid. Of course, Sonic definitely needs to make a return too.

Well put. I personally wouldn't mind, but that does add perspective to it. I definitely agree with the bold though.

Elite Beat Agents assist trophy, where they come and make the character who invoked them more powerful while they dance on the background.
All of the cast has hilarious HELP!!!! drawings popping up briefly on screen whenever they grab the assist trophy.

DLC isn't inherently "anti-consumer."

Unfortunately, people associate DLC with "anti-consumer" because 99% of the time, it really is.

However, Nintendo has handled DLC really well in the past, on the 3DS at least. If there is any game in the world that I would gladly pay hundreds of dollars for DLC over the next couple of years (it could go on until a new Smash is released, really), it's Smash Bros.

DLC costumes, music, stages, characters, taunts, intro animations, event matches, break the targets stages... the list goes on and on and on. So much potential there.

I want Smash 4 to be open to DLC, entirely because it would mean post-launch balances & patches could be made available. If this is going to honestly have a real online component, that's absolutely crucial.

You've forgotten:

Ryu
Pacman
Alex Kidd
Earthworn Jim
Frogger
Space Invader
Dynamite Heady
Tetris Block
and Marble (of Marble Madness)

Think of the b moves!

We knew Smash was going to be in the event one way or the other, but it's nice to know that we will get to see a trailer. HYPE

Same. I had to migrate away from Samus after Brawl. She was a lot less nimble and powerful and seemed to have lost her mobility and strength in the latest iteration. She also felt a lot heavier.

I hope they bring her back to her former glory.
Yeah, her attacks just felt way weaker than in Melee. I really hate what happened to her Super Missile. It just didn't feel so...super anymore :(

Samus in Brawl sucked.

Actually, I kinda felt like a vast majority of the old cast in Brawl didn't make the transition to the engine very well. A lot of the newer characters outclassed them in handling and attack power.

Exactly. It can be a constant stream of revenue and hype for Nintendo AND more content for the fans.

My heart dropped when I first controlled Captain Falcon in Brawl.

Brawl Falcon is Falcon in name only.

Also, DLC can wreck the balance of an online fighter. What if one of the DLC characters ends up being in the highest tier? Are you only going to let people who have the DLC play against others with DLC? How is a game with a competitive aspect fair if one player can pay to have a better character?

sounds like league of legends, how has that been workin' out for them

For me the brawl rooster is pretty much perfect, needs Belmont and Megaman maybe, and also to drop Snake, I don't care, I want classic characters that make me remember my childhood, basically, they should all work for my ideal item called 8 bit that makes everyone in the arena to convert into their pixelated original version.

Yes I know there's a Metal Gear Solid game on the NES, I again do not care.

my friends and I always play an arbitrary rules game on Battlefield/no-items where all players have to be Ganondorf, and the only moves we're allowed to use are Warlock Punch and the Volcano Kick.

it's amazing.

i went back to melee a while back and developed a real appreciation for ssbm ganondorf that i never had before. lots of cool moves and tricks if you learn how to play him.

then you play brawl ganondorf and it's like they imported him into brawl, automatically tuned his animation speeds, and then forgot to change anything else. once i played a level 9 cpu ganondorf who just stood in place for most of the match on the opposite side of the stage. it's like it was smart enough to realize that it couldn't win.

I hope the animal crossing guy reconsiders the offer and put Tom Nook as a playable character. Animal Crossing is violent.

Has anyone heard about this? Sorry if someone posted about this earlier. Hideki Kamiya tells Smash Bros fans to "f**k off"

Kinda annoying for him but it's a little funny too because he tweets what he wants.

As I said before, it's a good thing he did it. Smash fans are the worst.

That's right Sakurai, mantidor doesn't care about MG so you better listen to what he wants! It's his/her childhood that matters, not anyone else's!

My issue with the smash bros games is that half the rooster is Pokemon creatures and for someone who doesn't like Pokemon it sucks

Wonder if the two versions will be very different, that's kind of the feeling I'm getting.

Yeah, I think there's more to this multi-version strategy. Nintendo hasn't done this before and has no reason to release a very similar game on both platform.

Wonder if the two versions will be very different, that's kind of the feeling I'm getting.

Initial talks implied that the 3DS version would be largely single player based, with the Wii U version being multiplayer centric, did they not? I'm honestly hoping so, because once I get Smash I'd like to hop right into multiplayer without having to jump through any hoops. Too many games this gen make it difficult to play local multiplayer games without doing a whole load of shit first, I'd like Smash to set a precedent for multiplayer gaming on the sofa.

On the flip side, a nice single player experience that I can play on the go that can help me unlock stages, characters, maybe even movesets or custom characters in my multiplayer game wouldn't be so bad either. Maybe they'll even have a pack-in thing upon release, buy both for $80 or something.

I really hope both versions can stand alone as their own games, but have some sort of cross-play too. Maybe one version will have a certain amount of characters and the other will some others?

Oh god I can't wait for Stunfisk Pokeball Pokemon and have him troll enemies by acting as a landmine that activates Thunder
