I wonder what will happen to GAF if XB1 takes off.

I hate the DRM, but if it takes off many on this forum seem like they would rage quit life.

If we get a new crackdown do you expect a new city or just an overhaul on the city from 1 and 2? I want a sky fortress that you have to use glider wings to reach or something crazy like that.

I don't know if it'll take off, but these posts that its DOA are funny. I mean It has Destiny, COD, TitanFall, Halo and Battlefield for the main core thats already playing these games online, yah this isn't going to flop.

GAF will go where the games are. At the moment, literally everything that has been announced about the console has been bad, except for the Quantum Dream game. So of course no one is excited about it right now. If it gets a good stable of exclusives people will eventually put up with the DRM shit. It's not about being right or wrong, or being part of group-think, it's just where things stand right now. After the E3 announcements hopes will rise again.

It's certainly not going to flop. However TitanFall and Halo are the only exclusives of that bunch. TF we barely know anything about, and Halo is basically only for the fans at this point, it's not likely to bring in a lot of new people, so on those merits it stands a chance of flopping on GAF. Once we see more new, original and exciting IPs at E3 though, people will start to waver.

I was here for E3 2006 and lurked in 2005... it was similar in that Xbox was laughed at and given no chance next to Sony (going in)

but there was never this much HATE. and they are actually convincing themselves bout the policies that are not even true ... in their minds they are worse than they actually are

so not sure if GAF rebounds that well this time. :(

I would think it will be an entirely different city. I like the glider idea, also I think it would be awesome if they made the skyline go to extreme heights. You could reach the tallest building and look down to what looks like ants, lol.

It's natural GAF would prefer Sony since there are a lot of enthusiasts on here who prefer RPGs and so on. The hate in this instance is understandable... people don't like having their rights taken away, and a lot of people have reason to fear for the industry. If MS were to openly call X1 a competitor to the supposed Steambox, I think people would become more open to it. Right now though, the bottom line to most people is "I used to have rights, now I have permission." If it comes about that MS has the same great deals that Steam has, people will become okay with that. It will just take a year or two to shape itself.

In the meantime just pray that enough gamers buy at the start of the lifespan. MS needs to see software move otherwise things could go sour.

PS3 was the GAF laughing stock of E3 when it was revealed....and for the whole year people waited for its release while 360s were on the shelf....

PS2 was a different story but you were specifically mentioning the PS3 and 360 with those dates...

Any chances of a new Perfect Dark or Jet Force Gemini making an appearance? Seriously one of the few games i would consider getting this machine for.

The thing is, Monday will bring the games. The DRM still sucks.

Also this thing will be FAR from a flop, I know its a new generation, but ask the COD kids what console they are buying, and the majority is still Xbox.

They have COD (association), Halo, Destiny, and now apparently EA (at least with TitanFall) on their side. This thing will sell.

not just TitanFall

looks like ME2, along with every sport title being marketed toward the xbox platform. All of these multi-platform titles will be associated with xbox. Huge partnership, even without garnering all exclusives...

I'm looking forward to this time next year having Game of Thrones (or any big live event) up on my 100" projector screen with GAF snapped on the side, so I don't have to look down at my phone/laptop.

Are you really going to monitor GAF while watching a new episode of Game of thrones? (Or any other non-gaming event)

Just curious.
Thanks

Edit:

Hix made it so clear to me! (.... even though I read the books.)
I can clearly see why you would have GAF snapped while watching Game of Thrones.
No one should hold that kind of emotion inside...or bare a viewing of the show without a proper outlet.

Cheers!

This.

Looking forward to Sundays watching football and have FARK's official NFL thread snapped up on the side. I always hated having my laptop next to me and looking away from the tv to read new posts.

(Minus the 100" projector =[ )

RIP Phonomezer

To lose another of our brethren with only two days to go makes my heart fall. Still, we must carry on, it's what he'd want.

All this shill/paid posters stuff reminds me of The Thing.

It could be any one us! Maybe its you!

Yeah, this McCarthyism is really silly, this whole place is turning into a ridiculous mess. I don't even know what purpose shills could serve here, I thought most of us were grownup people capable of forming our own opinions and not being easily swayed. My ignore list is chock full of people whom I consider fanboys or just plain naive and shortsighted - and many of them might be paid shills - but that's because I would ignore everything they have to say anyway.

I'm pretty sure it will take off, there's hardly anything there that other successful services and platforms haven't done before. Thus all this mass hysteria seems misdirected to me (which I have to say disappoints me, since some of it is coming from press outlets I once considered rather reasonable), it's more like a reactionary outcry of people who have just opened their eyes to trends that they've been ignoring for years - or even actively endorsing, in case of Steam and all the praise it's been getting; don't think that its success hasn't informed Microsoft's decisions. I honestly believe that the majority of consumers will agree that the positives outweigh the negatives. Even if I'm wrong and people do rebel, the policies will change to give it another chance, the same way PS3 got one. But of course, it's hard say anything for certain until the price points for both Xbox One an PS4 are revealed.

God, I hope there will be a way for me to use those features here in Croatia.

Hahaha, yes, I barely used the ignore function a few months ago, except for one or two really annoying people. Then I started adding the trolls, or those who are too aggressive and not open to discussion, but only after several of those messages and no constructive ones. But now I sometimes add people for a single message if I find it too dumb. :P
It sure helps to make reading certain threas more bearable.

Yes, it is surprising to see the dramatic headlines from different news sources... I understand the controversy and the need to talk about it, but scare tactics (and sometimes insults) don't add to credibility. From all the articles I've read about it, only the Wall Street Journal had a decently written one, while still assessing the same points. So kudos to them.

Heaven forbid a staff writer for a site be outraged while still expressing a cogent argument. Games journalism isn't exactly known for its protection of consumer rights.

We should be happy for once that games journalism is actually standing up for us once. The point of those articles is not to scare people (where did you get that from) but to inform them on anti-consumer practices MS is doing with the next xbox. The mainstream will be informed which is one of the main objectives for journalism because we all know ehn the PR and ads come MS will mention none of the drawbacks (like most companies) except in fine print.

I think I was posting along with Miles in another thread about Avalanche's very odd very outspoken bits about MS and it does seem to be that they MAY have picked up a core IP that caused them to push back that other one they were working on internally. Crackdown? Not sure.

Personally I have always felt that the Just Cause engine would work in an insane amount of game environments from RPG to adventure to shooter and I would love to see their next gen stuff. It was relatively inpsiring to see what they could do on the 360 and to have systems more powerful.

I mean...hell WHO better to make a new Blood Wake game then the guys who brought us

oh man, if Avalanche are working on a new Blood Wake I'll probably have a heart attack. One f the best things about JC2 was just riding on the open seas, if they can focus on a racer that manages to capture the same feeling from JC2...

They're working on Mad Max and a new JC, I believe. I'm not sure they are big enough for another title. Though there is a chance that I have the first two games confused as two separate things when they are in fact just one.

Nothing worse then having to look away. I will be multi tasking like a mother fucker.

Xbox One is going to let me retire 4 of the remotes currently on my coffe table.

Interesting, thanks for letting us know.

Heaven forbid a staff writer for a site be outraged while still expressing a cogent argument. Games journalism isn't exactly known for its protection of consumer rights.

Journalism is meant for information. Its purpose isn't expressing a sentiment, or protecting anyone. There are editorials for that. If game journalism wants to be taken seriously, they should start by following the rules of their profession.
In "real" journalism, you don't see headlines about Syria like "Assad is a tyrant and should be taken down !", or on economy "New government measures will take down the country". Newspapers that do are easily classified as rags, or pieces of propaganda.

To get back to my previous example, the WSJ blog shows it can be done. (there may be some slighly selective bolding, but I'll overlook that) Only facts that are explained and commented, and letting the reader make his own opinion based on those.

They're not "standing up" for me, so you can piss off with that. :)

Sadly don't think I'm going to be able to see the conference live - I'll be on a train in the Arun valley at that point. Alas.

When exactly does the conference begin, gaffers? I live in Montréal and I know not the corresponding starting hour. A little help would be appreciated!

Would be pretty interesting if the Mad Max game was exclusive to the One. Or perhaps there's that steampunk game they were talking about?
