Even though I am not upset about the XB1 DRM, I do hope Sony launches the PS4 without it. Having a competitor with a more open system may force MS into making their DRM more competitive and customer friendly.

I am leaning toward the XB1 for launch and a PS4 later, but seeing Dragons Dogma as a PS4 exclusive and in the Launch window could change my mind.

oh and btw, SONY you better give me a decent loot game for my Vita. I am not excepting some shit from Gameloft. I bought the thing thinking Rune (aka Warriors Lair) was going to be released. Don't pull a Saturn Eternal Champions on me.

I worry that if Sony goes through with DRM that the DRM stuff on Xbox One will get worse over time. It's all software at the end of the day, so they could always tighten the DRM as time goes on. I honestly think that the cloud stuff they keep talking about is a way to get people used to always on for all games, SP or MP. If they push hard enough on this point they can eventually say "you need the cloud to run this game at all", kinda like Sim City's always-online DRM.

This from this year?

yes

Who are your favorite Playstation characters (that are not villains)?

Pick only 3 heroes/protagonists (or less).

1. Solid Snake/Big Boss
2. Yuna
3. Nathan Drake

1 Day to go! 1 day until our jaws drop! ULTROS! will be substituting bigboss370 for this so enjoy!

The final question:

=========================================================================== ========

=========================================================================== ========

What is your favorite PlayStation game or IP?

You can only pick one.

Final Fantasy.

Runner-ups: Kingdom Hearts, Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid, Demon's Souls, Xenogears. In no particular order.

Do you guys think that we'll see a few more big, exclusive launch titles for the PS4? Driveclub, Killzone, Infamous, The Witness, and Knack (forgive me if I missed something) are all pretty great looking games, but at least one or two more exclusive games could really give PS4 a big edge this holiday.

Guesses? Bets?

If Sony announces some bullshit on Monday, I'm going to stick with my PS3 until the Wii U drops down in price and I'll stick with PC/Wii U. I'm not rewarding stupidity with my hard earned money.

There could be, but I don't think that'd be good for the system, to just release all the bombs day one. They wouldn't be able to sustain that going on.

Sony and Microsoft should just make digital offerings more attractive rather than locking everyone out with all this DRM stuff.

I don't understand why they're trying to charge the same for a retail disc that costs money to manufacture, distribute, and retailer cut when they can simply offer the digital version cheaper.

Hell, raise prices on the retail discs to $69.99, while simultaneously offering digital versions for $49.99.

The convenience factor + discount would have a lot of people switch to digital distribution in a heartbeat.

I honestly think that's more than enough for a great launch, don't forget all the 3rd party titles too. Sony needs to save some strong 1st party for Q1 2014 when release lists tend to dry up for new systems. The last thing they need is a Wii U situation with a post-launch drought.

No, I think that the launch window titles were already revealed.

They will reveal some big exclusive titles a bit further out from launch (Spring/Summer 2014), more than likely.

Eh, I can't think of any we know of that would be there aside from the multiport games and such.

Any new games we see at the conference from their first party studios or from third parties such as SE I don't expect to see until next year at the latest.

I don't know how I'd react if they announced Versus as a launch title though.

Sony has been experimenting with lower prices lately.

Sly 4 and Puppeteer are $40 and Sly 4 did incredibly well for it. We'll probably see a lot more lower priced lower budgeted titles from Sony if it works again with Puppeteer.

of course. Just off the top of my head there is Ready at Dawn's game and Santa Monica's game. Sony has a lot more studios than that which can make big games. Throw in the final fantasy stuff and boom. Only thing that could top it off is if Naughty Dog shows theirs.

I would go digital only if that were the case, but they can't spit in the face of retailers. Their hands are tied unfortunately.

Any streams that will work on my Vita for all of Mondays pressers? I'll be on a plane for at least MS and the Vita has better battery life than my laptop methinks.

One of the reasons is that retailers complain. I believe GameStop made a big stink about Warhawk being $40 to download but $60 retail (because it came with a headset)

Damn. The first game was an underrated classic on the Genesis. Such a shame we'll never see another one in the series.

No shit, I am embarrassed by how many times I looked at the picture on the back of the Saturn's box.

Always online would be bad. I am not happy with the 24hr check but don't consider it a deal breaker

Sony said they'll set up a Vita stream.

Probably using nico nico douga. Just gotta wait for details till then.

Yeah, I appreciate them pricing certain titles more attractively, but they need to do that across the board for all of their big AAA games as well. It doesn't have to be $40, but it needs to be cheaper than buying a new retail game.

If that means raising retail prices, so be it. They have the right to do that.

Bottom line is that overall they are doing a poor job of telling consumers WHY they should go digital rather than retail. Steam does a fantastic job of that, and they need to try and further innovate in this area.

Used game market will go away if you make digital distribution more attractive.

They can spit all they want in the face of retailers, they've raised prices before in the past they can raise them more now.

I believe the reason has something to do with the fact that shelf space honestly equals advertising.
If one company has larger shelf space, it is seen as being more success. They will not get shelf space by undercutting their retailers, that is why you do not see many pc games in stores anymore except in the bowels of electronic departments and while some stores like Gamestop and Amazon have found ways to work with the digital future, your Target, Walmart and others which are a huge margin of the customer base do not.
So for the TL:DR they do not make the price a drastic different price because they do not want to alienate retailers. Plus pressing discs really costs nothing in bulk.
They barely include anything in the package these days anyway.

Sony doesn't need to raise prices, they need to offer additional value for digital copies. Show people a reason why they should buy them instead of putting a gun to their heads and forcing them to buy it because it's $20 cheaper.

PS+ seems to be a fine solution, let people get used to digital copies as well as get people attracted to all the discounts available on PSN for them.

The physical market for PC went away as soon as prices for digital went incredibly low and online stores were competing on prices. If any console maker wants to help move their audience to digital only, they need to start giving a lot of digital sales.

Well, I guess one thing to be optimistic about, if Sony does pack in that DRM, they and Microsoft will not be blessed with our sales, plagued by poor numbers, and eventually forced to back down with this miserable DRM business.

At least, I like to think it will happen that way. Oh, some day.

It is pretty interesting to see DemonNite and GopherD hinting about something coming from Valve. Steam partnership?

Probably the Portal 2 announcement was just the beginning of this partnership. Hopefully it translates over to more games too. Perhaps Left 4 Dead? I thought when Verendus was hinting about an exclusive from a western developer was really about Valve. Maybe the Half-Life 2 gif is a clue. :P

when did they tease that, must have missed it. Quotes plz.

I've always liked Jack Tretton, both as a person and speaker. He's 2nd on my list right behind mr. Iwata.

To pick an absolute favorite Sony series is difficult, since many of the series that have appeared on Playstation have also appeared on Nintendo or Microsoft systems. But, if I'm choosing one that has been largely Sony exclusive for much of its life, my choice would be the Klonoa series. It's the closest Sony has had to Mario and Kirby. I really hope against all odds he will return for an all new PS4 or Vita adventure, I thought Klonoa 2 was especially creative and loved most of the music in that game.

Close behind would be Parappa, another series I'd like to see return, either PS4 or Vita. I especially liked "Final Party", the last song in Parappa 2 where the DJ and Parappa sing. Whoever voiced the DJ did an outstanding job.

For the first year in several, I'm actually off work the days of the Sony and Nintendo stuff. I can catch Sony's presser live here at home, but my home connection is getting more uncooperative, so ill catch it late Monday night when ill have access to a fios connection which will have no problem with it. If pre-orders for PS4 open on Tuesday though ill do that on that day regardless!

Also it seems odd when in the beginning of the year, it looked like a Steambox was going to be released, but then suddenly, Valve had a mass layoff for some odd reason and no news/rumors of the Steambox surfaced again.

All I wonder is how the market will look if PS4 has 70-80% market share...

  • Return of Japanese games/genres in places other than Japan.
  • Expansion of Sony 1st party studios
  • Artsy games get more exposure
  • Free online play becomes standard
  • bar raised on whats offered behind paywalls
  • MS shareholders pressure MS to focus on area other than games
  • Increased probability that Nintendo becomes the 2nd console
  • Sony has a hard time being dethroned again

Yes, same here. Surprised and disappointed. I would have loved to play Left 4 Dead 2 with a friend locally.

When you download Steam today, the option to log in through your PSN ID is still there. Unless something crazy has happened behind the scenes, I don't think we've seen the last of Valve on PlayStation.

You might be onto something. It could be a big Steam partnership between Sony and Valve for PSN.

So, who are we expecting to lead the PS E3 conference?, Kaz, Cerny, Tretton?... for what it's worth i'd put Cerny in 1st, followed by Kaz in 2nd and Tretton in last place.

House will lead I think. And I'm fine with that :)
