I don't believe anyone will be talking about DRM at E3, so I guess he must be mean exclusive games? Unless he really believes Sony, MS, etc will be talking about DRM and taking attention away from their big announcements?

Seems unlikely to me.

If it was about DRM, it would have leaked. He's most likely referring to the fact that we're going to see tons of exclusives and will be subsequently mad about the ones not available on our consoles of choice.

Yep. It's actually a consequence of Xbox One not being a totally digital console.

I'd buy a disc-less version if it removed the stupid call-in requirement.

I don't even think it's that, most people get both systems. I think he's just talking gibberish personally.

I don't know of him, so you could be right. Could just mean Microsoft has a lot of great stuff and he knows a lot of people dont want to go near their system.

There are no benefits, it's just weird.

You need some sort of DRM stuff if you want people to access their games without having to pop in the disc. If they would have cut the possibility to sell games it might have worked like Steam with longer offline periods. It is actually a difficult decision. I think Microsoft needs to rework some the things. Just add a rewritable section on the game discs that includes a license for a game. When you insert the disc, the license will be moved from the disc to your HDD so the disc becomes unusable until you burn the license back from your HDD to your disc. This allows no-disc and infinite offline play and resales. Everybody wins. You can steal my idea, MS.

Indeed. And one way to counter it would be to only have the 24 hour check if you put in a disc game you want to play and havn't been online for 24 hours. So for instance if my entire library was digitally bought, I shouldn't need to have it online to check every day.

Steam's offline period is forever, though, if you choose to.

This wouldn't work as you could play your game without disc because you are online and give the game to a friend who keeps offline with the disc popped in. Maybe if it they bind the game to a "main" console it could work.

By the way, anyone surprised that there haven't been any accidental leaks on Xbox.com like there have been the past few years?

Was hoping someone might push the button on those exclusive games...

I'm honestly hoping for no leaks for maximum surprise. Titans Fall is enough please. I seriously hope Cboat's pc refuses to boot tomorrow so he can't spoil stuff like he implied he would. Either be it a hype killing negative leak (like i suspect) or an actual leak for something in the conference.

I think they'll duck the question as they did at the PS meeting and say they'll be talking about it at a later date. It's better to push it into the long grass and focus on building hype than address and see any hype potentially stall as is currently happening with MS.

I'm sure they'll be asked, but I don't believe we'll get an answer beyond we aren't talking about that yet or the same answer they gave at the PS meeting.

At this point if they don't clarify, it will almost confirm that they will have similar DRM stuff on ps4. Anything but a no is a yes.

Well MS already laid all their stuff out so they're free to skip out on DRM entirely tomorrow at the conference. Sony on the other hand have a lot of stuff they haven't detailed.

Yeah, MS are 'free' to move on from it, but they'll still be dogged by questions related to their policy and that's something I feel both want to avoid during E3.

They are at the point where no news is bad news so if they don't...man

Absolutely, it's far beyond the point where they can continue not to detail their policies, but I feel we won't get any answers here, especially after the reaction to MS. I hope I'm wrong, would be nice to get some firm details on what they intend to do and if it's anything like MS' policy.

This is how I read it, seems that he's pointing more towards exclusive game announcements.

There's also this I guess. Doesn't he have history of saying stuff to rile up GAF?

A totally digital console would have the same requirement. Without a regular check, you could have one console constantly offline playing the game at will, and other consoles online playing the sale copy of the game.
The games on demand on the 360 have a hourly check, IIRC.

Why an hourly check on the 360?

you dont expect ps+ to continue like before right (on ps4 i mean)

was it confirmed that gold subs would be console tied now ?

I think Sony has come to far with plus to go back.

The only thing with gold I know is that it carries over from the 360 (good for me cause i'm good till 2016 thanks to sales) and family accounts are basic Xbox Live Gold.

i dont see them giving away free ps4 games but who knows what they thought of this time.

what do you mean basic gold ?
i thought it was confirmed that family members share a gold subscribtion. would be a bummer if not.

Steam's offline mode is a bit of a misnomer. You need to online and logged into steam to select the offline mode.

So it's only really usable if you do that in advance. If there is any unexpected Internet outage you can't use the offline mode.

That is not true. I had a time when I moved to a new apartment where I had no Internet for a week. I just started Steam and after it wasn't able to connect it offered me using offline mode.

Awww, conference spoilers.

Yeah, and with that I'm gone. Media blackout. Good luck everyone, stay safe until tomorrow. :)
I hope we'll have many games to discuss once everything is said and done.

But you can't transfer GOD games afaik... Or?

You can play a GoD on any console where you have an active account, even if it is not your registered console.

To set up offline mode, I need to be online once. That's true. After that point I never need to be online.

Really? I swear that when I would use the VPN trick to unlock games early it wouldn't let me login to offline mode unless I selected restart in offline mode.

I've misremembering or they have changed it since I last used it.

Hmm. That is going to cause a ruckus if they do show up.

Indeed it would. There's some expectation it might be a PS4 exclusive due to the DRM situation, not sure I personally agree, so their showing up the MS conference would indeed result in more than few meltdowns.

Hm... I've read that the offline mode's policies might differ from user to user based on several unknown factors. I thought this was only related to the duration you are allowed to be offline but it seems to also differ in terms of enabling offline mode... Hm.

Maybe because your account was logged in from 2 different IPs within a short amount of time, so valve thinks you might share your account?

What? Are you sure? because XBLA and GoD have two kind of licenses.

Well I read it from the experience of a gaffer here... never experienced it myself, since I'm, well, always online. ;)

(yes, I know I was gone until after the conference. I am now. For real.)

Steam offline mode:

Offline Mode allows you to play games through Steam without reconnecting to the Steam Network every time you wish to play - this is particularly useful if you do not plan on playing over the internet and would prefer not to download new updates for your single-player games.

Please note that you must connect to the Steam Network and test each of the games you would like to use in Offline Mode at least once to set up your account and configure Offline Mode on your machine.

What is Steam's Offline Mode and how do I use it?

I'm sure you can play offline on the console where you buy the game, even any profile on that console can play the game.

Sony will only talk about it if there isn't any at all.

Lucid is not making a PGR. They are making a iOS racing game.

You don't need to configure it automatically, steam does that automatically for you. They say to open the game at least once because that you you are sure the game has finished installing, updating and configuring whatever it needs.

God Damnit, is that usual that the E3 boat is starting to leak heavily soon before reaching the harbour?

If so I better jump out and go to sleep >.=.<

You must be connected to internet to setup offline mode, at least the first time, it is clear: "Please note that you must connect to the Steam Network and test each of the games you would like to use in Offline Mode at least once to set up your account and configure Offline Mode on your machine."
