My most anticipated piece of information from E3 is how Microsoft's DRM plans can get worse.

Fuck the games, this is so unfathomable that I absolutely need to know.

Based on CBOAT's leak, we won't know, because "Stage 2" of the DRM info dump will be at Gamescom and not tomorrow.

They had me with FIFA and The Sims 4, but unfortunately they killed both by being greedy assholes.

Maybe the Star Wars game could be cool, otherwise nothing of interest for me.

Not having an interest in Mirror's Edge is a crime.

Right? As the Xbox One DRM rumors become more frequent and more detailed, the situation sounded more and more suspect. Then the actual console reveal and PR happened, and it was even worse than we anticipated. It's still kind of hard to wrap my head around. I hope MS struggles due to this shit.

I don't have that much faith in the consumerist population that we have now. They will see CoD and Halo and still jump on it. Just go back and look at some of the more heated threads with gamers actually arguing for taking away their consumer rights in game ownership. It's almost like junkies or Stockholm Syndrome or something. the ball at this point is really in Sony's court and what they are really doing in regards to DRM.

It's such a stupid fucking thing, too. Anybody who is watching E3 press conferences is likely to be informed enough to know that those titles are going to be multiplatform unless they're explicitly called exclusive.

Microsoft moneyhatting silence just comes off as desperate and sad.
I think it's more for the mainstream press. With the rumor that their software tools aren't fully baked and the weaker specs when compared to the PS4, the moneyhats might be so the mainstream press doesn't get a chance to view an Xbox One game running next to its PS4 counterpart.

There are an a lot of signs that we are going to get good news.

1. Yoshida making the joke about DRM (vita game) on Twitter. He isn't dumb... that would be pretty shitty if they were planning on delivering bad news.

2. OMGWTFBBQ's leak that EA is giving MS exclusives (games and DLC) because MS were pushing DRM and sony wouldn't commit to it (this was during the winter, if I understood OMG's post correctly)

3. Having not committed to it publically they've been able to watch all the feedback against MS - and then our protest - and then even more feedback against MS after they put up the website explaining it better. Can they really see all of that and think it's a good business decision?

Common sense is telling me that the PS4 will have little to no new DRM over the ps3. But, of course, Sony hasn't always been known for having common sense...
Forgot about the Shuhei tweet lol love him
Thanks btw you're a great poster

I really want them to make the right decision. I think the public reaction couldnt be more clear for them to see whats good and whats not from the consumer perspective.

I'm also curious about the cloud allotment and how that will affect access to games. EA/Ubi/etc having to retire some games entirely to make space for a new cloud-intensive game of some kind... though I'm admittedly ignorant about the topic. I doubt it's something tht would be done within the first couple years of a games life, but still.

I'm crossing my fingers on this.

I've not wanted someone to be more right about anything else relating to this new generation.

Was waiting all weekend for this. THANK YOU CBOAT.
Shame half of the thread is full of "wtf is this?" and some doubters.

This system is a fucking train wreck and MS has gone far far far far beyond evil.

- Bribing 3rd parties. It's pathetic really. They know their first parties don't hold a candle against Sony. No faith what so ever.
- More DRM bad news? You already completely lost me when you ditched borrowing games and rentals. But your fuck ups make for great entertainment on GAF. Can't wait.
Here's my guess, MS can pull any game off the server and delete it from your library without your permission. Bought Madden 14? Oops have to make space for the servers please upgrade to Madden 16.
- Cloud was built for DRM? SHOCKED! Always on Kinect with 24 checks ups, sure didn't see that coming. Cloud was made up bullshit from day 1. Just PR trickery to get you thinking always online won't be so bad. And you EA & Ubi sucked their nobs in appreciation? SHOCKED AGAIN!

So with that said, I'm out. Won't touch this system at all. Hope it flops and burns. I'm all for competition but MS turned into a massive cancer.

The fact that Sony is tight-lipped on the question may mean it was up in the air until recently.

If they really do go no-DRM, then what comes next is the market forces deciding which console will come into line with the other.

It's consuming me. I look at games like Driveclub and start to feel a tinge of hype but then a voice in the back of my head goes "But they're going to fuck you on DRM!" I want Sony to do the right thing just so I can relax for a minute and think about actual games again.

I helped create the abomination known as the Xbox One by supporting the Xbox, and Xbox 360 almost exclusively. Sony and Nintendo, please forgive me... I will never stray from the path ever again.

I'm like the NCP in Battlestar Galactica.

Yeap, my sentiments exactly. First E3 or generation ever where I've been as apprehensive and nervous as I have been excited.

MS' DRM already meant it was a definite no buy from me. If it's true that it is worse than what we already know. Goddamn. I really hope it bites them in the ass, and no one buys the xbone. A lot of their practises are really disgusting me atm. I just hope the everyman is as disgusted as I am.

IF Sony goes with No DRM or leave it the same as it is now then they definitely deserve every gamers support. A low price and word of mouth will have to help this console sell. We know MS has the money for advertising.

Didn't CBOAT pretty much say game rentals won't even be supported?

Would anyone else be able to enjoy the Sony conference a lot more if they addressed the DRM situation either before the conference or right at the start?

Last-gen Assassin's Creed 1 was only shown for PS3 at E3 2006 and it looked like it was an exclusive. I distinctly remember someone on a forum talking about how they weren't buying a PS3 because of its pricepoint, but still really wanted one because of Assassin's Creed, the Last Guardian, and Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

I actually think the "gets worse" part has to do with the 24 hour check. They'll have most games, single player or not, be "better with the cloud" and those will be always-online, not just "online-every-24-hours". At least that's my guess.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

You may very well be right, that sounds totally plausible.

Government spying on us? Meh.

Microsoft wants to fuck with our video games? Aww helllllllll no.

Assassin's Creed was originally actually a PS3 exclusive though.

This is my guess too.
