Looks really good. And Luigi has his special jump, so this game plays like Super Mario 2 USA?
Seems that way. A fusion of World's enemies, SMB 2 and 3D land mechanics, along with some new stuff.

but but...So, I told myself I'd wait until the new 3D Mario game was shown before making a decision as to whether or not I'd get a Wii U this year or possibly even ever. I'm relieved to have that out of the way now.
Well, there at least seems to be replay functionality of some sort, judging from the movie reel icon in the corner at one point during the trailer.with the talk of speed running with Toad in the developer video, Nintendo HAS to put in leaderboards right?
nintendo?
Imagine if they made a Super Mario 64-2, where you had to go back to the mushroom kingdom after something terrible happened, (getting overrun by something) and you had to revist all the past levels from the first one but everything has changed in those worlds (again being overrun by someone or something) Think the same vein as Link to the Past II but on a more epic scale....More undiscovered rooms, more stars, and they could have had multiplayer in it too.
That would have been the Megaton.![]()
Played every level of the demo at e3 and got all green stars in each.
It plays amazing and smooth. Looks grat too. You guys are nuts.
Also - MK8 at 60 FPS looks phenomenal. No joke - who would have thought MK would be the graphical powerhouse.
Because it's fun to just explore the little worlds the game is filled with? The day hasn't passed for those kinds of games, Nintendo has just decided to throw them away for games that are more immediately pleasurable for players so they can sell more copies of their games.
How can you even have fun with the platforming in modern Mario games when it's so braindead easy? It took an entire playthrough of 3D Land before levels with even a HINT of challenge started coming.
I get more out of a game where I can jump around and make my own fun in an open, creative environment than the guided amusement park rides Nintendo is making these days:
"And if you look to your right you'll see nostalgic reference #132" Oooh, Ahhhh.
"And if you look to your left you'll find a powerup that removes any need to actually platform or control your character with any skill to win" Oooh, ahhhh. *snaps photo*
Where have you been, bro?How can you even have fun with the platforming in modern Mario games when it's so braindead easy? It took an entire playthrough of 3D Land before levels with even a HINT of challenge started coming.
I know hyperbole and apoplectic reaction are kind of a GAF staple, but why is everyone shitting on the level design when we've only seen one or maybe two levels?
Galaxy was going to be a hard game to follow up but still I don't love the direction here.
SM3DL was a great game on the 3DS but the actual 3D gameplay with the usually stationary camera made for some very straightforward gameplay. I don't want that returning. It makes everything feel like a 2.5D game. I want open areas and free camera control to approach levels from different directions.
The multiple characters that have different abilities/traits is a problem too in my eyes because the level design has to accommodate all of them vs. NSMB where they are essentially just skins.
Sorry, the design here looks nothing like SMB3 to me. A lot of Galaxy (especially 2) took place on small relatively linear levels that I would say is tighter than what we've seen of this game. Of course it's hard to tell from only seeing a few minutes of the game.
We've seen 5. None of them look all that fun or creative IMO.
I love how someone like Kai pops in, who has played Mario 3D World, and who says it's a great game, gets ignored for more hating. How many of you here have actually played it besides Kai?

.Why was I more impressed with SD Mario Galaxy on a technical level than this?
Lol, exactly. NSMB and 3D Land don't even have a hint of challenge. No secrets to explore other than finding 3 Star Coins. Point A to Point B.
Game looks cool..wish it wasn't touted as a 'World' game though.

Everybody knows its going to play well. It was always going to play well.
But that means people shouldn't be disappointed by what they are seeing?
Besides, positive impressions from a demo doesn't automatically make this a "great game". I'm sure it will be a good game based on the development team, but already proclaiming this is a "great game" based on the demo is premature.
I disagree. They are taking the same 2d design philosophy and applying it to this game like 3d land but taking a step further with better scope. Galaxy games and SM64 feel and look different than this and play nothing like the 2d marios.
I have two kids and this looks like Christmas on a disc.
I can guarantee you if this was Galaxy 3 or something similar, I'd be all over this game.
