You could do that, but it would still look pretty much the same. Yeah, there are minor changes, but nothing to give me a completely different impression. If you want me to say she drastically changed, sure and for the better. :3
Sigh. Another dumb statement. Tainted XIII? I'm sorry you didn't like FFXIII. Plenty of other people did. People enjoyed XIII-2 as well. SE did very well with the series despite the drop in sales for the sequel. People complain that the game ruined the FF series and they were 'done'. Guess who came back yesterday to the fold. It's the usual FF cycle.
Besides, SE has already explained why the game was changed and it had NOTHING to do with XIII. Versus simply became bigger and more unique than a mere reinterpretation of 13's themes. It's not a bad idea at all and I wonder that given the huge difference in tone and structure why it was never just XV in the first place.

Well, I think someone else mentioned "Leanne" from Resonance of Fate and that was my first thought as well. Honestly, side by side without being told I would have assumed it was a new character.
Yeah and I'm so glad they didn't use that other one. Got tired of that fast after watching the 2011 trailer so many times.
Yeah, I can see a bit of Leanne in her now. Speaking of Leanne, I need to replay RoF.

Probably just me not liking elitists in general. I want more people to be able to play games, but I'd like that without the asshole remarks and elitism that comes with one platform bashing another. I don't complain about Ninty titles not being on other platforms, for example. Or MGS not being on PC. Call me an idiot if you want, I'm only saying how I feel.
Are people really arguing about Stella? Camera angle, lighting, and the fact that her hair isn't blowing in the wind a la 2011 shot has a lot to do with how she looks you know. If you're arguing facial bone structure, then I could understand a bit better, but that's still a paltry complaint.
I'm with you on this, Zukuu. She looks much better in the 2010 and 2011 iterations.
Yeah. But I'm interested in what the "normal" music sounds, ie. battle themes and area themes. Is the music in Noctis' city/Tokyo going to have a different flavor to it from the Venice area?

I'm just struggling to see what could be considered pretentious from the trailer. It's a word that gets thrown around a lot so excuse the questioning.
Is this the first Final Fantasy game where the bulk of the cast looks distinctly Asian in terms of facial structure?

I'm a little worried about this. Although it hasn't been broken down, the menu doesn't exactly look robust.
i'd say they look distinctly western, outside of Noctis and his buddy.

I don't know why but those characters don't look quite human to me. There must be something wrong with the anatomy or face structure.
Well, first of all, didn't say I didn't like FFXIII. It had its share of (big) problems, but I still found the battles entertaining enough and didn't despise the story like some do (not that it's too good either)
That said, XIII is generally seen as having a negative influence on the FF name and I'm sure Square Enix knows that. They already knew Versus' scope would be massive when they announced it, so they could've just made it mainline then if they wanted to. Nomura revealed right from the start that Versus XIII was being developed like a mainline entry and simply not called one because of the connections between the FNC games, so they all had to have the XIII in their name. Though, Versus XIII was also always noted not to necessarily be the final name of the game.
I think they can JUSTIFY this being turned into a mainline title by the scope & ambition of the game, but I really doubt that's all there is behind the name change. In an alternative universe where XIII & XIV 1.0 got better receptions, I'm sure they could've come up with a name that still had XIII in it and make it work. I mean, it CAN'T have strayed too far from FNC given that they still labeled this as a FNC game in the E3 2013 trailer.
Really, I just feel that with the way they've spoken about action RPGs being the future of the JRPG genre while turnbased games aren't viewed as fondly nowadays + the fact that XIII-name isn't as marketable as it was pre-XIII & XIII-2 release + the fact that the game is so ambitious and massive = it's simply a wise move to change the name to XV and make this a mainline title, partly perhaps to see if the fanbase agrees that action RPGs are the way. If this doesn't sell well, then maybe they see it as the marketplace has spoken and will return to more traditional combat systems.

He is a very humble guy if you have seen his interviews.I don't get a pretentious vibe from him at all.
Having high visual presentation quality =/= Pretentious. Also his KH designs are cute most of the time and the themes are strong yet simple.

And my comment about the appearance of the characters was unrelated, I should have separated it more.
Perhaps, it's just the first game I've seen at the top of my head that had people who actually look Asian to me. When I was growing up playing Final Fantasy I always used to wonder why all the characters looked American/European despite the studio being Japanese.

We are struggling to see "it" because we don't know what "it" is.
The trailer shows Noctis with red eyes too. And his facial structure seems similar to me. Maybe red eyes is a l'cie thing.
Asians are human too.
