Tom Clancy's The Division - Ubisoft + Massive, MMO Open World TPS RPG

Sign me up! This seems right up my alley. Plus I'm one of the more mature, yet humorous, online players you'll meet, lol.

Nice.

"Cease fire!, cease fire! 5 minute screenshot time-out"

*shoots Amir0x in the back*

"haha sucker, that'll teach you to trust a PC gamer"

Why you want to kill me so bad, Dennis? You were on my TEAM! :(

Man if the entire city is explorable and scavangeable, I will shit bricks. This game is goddamned mindblowing visually. The texture work... holy shit.

RECRUITING: Members for the future NeoGAF PS4 THE DIVISION team. All out, no spammers, no pussies. Mic required. Let's do this on day one! (PS4 version only, other platforms need not apply). ;)

Count me in!

I sent you my psn

I'm super skeptical about this for some reason. It looked fantastic and it sounds like it could be fun in theory...but I don't know. I just have this feeling that it won't be as good when it eventually comes out.

It was a nice demo but obviously very planned and just one area and all that, I didn't grasp how the game works as an mmo from that conference. Let alone an mmorpg lol.

Somehow, I got a pass to a special showing of this game at E3 today, where they played a live demo in a different part of New York. Some thoughts, if anyone is interested:

- The animations look unfinished. For example, there was no special animation for walking up stairs, just the standard running one.

-There was some minor, but noticeable, pop-in.

-The draw distance seemed lower, but that might have just been the in-game weather.

-Besides those issues, the graphics looked just as good as on the stage demo.

-During the demo, two players were shooting at a squad of NPCs, while a player was controlling a UAV overhead with a tablet.

-Seemed very MMOy, and there were cooldown powers. For example, one of the players used some sort of 'health boost' which boosted the health of both himself and his companion.

That's all I can remember of the demo right now. Game looks early, but also looks very, very good.

Thanks for the info, just a couple of Qs:

Will it be playable as SP with AI companions? I am kind of doubting that.

Was the game demoed on PS4 or a PC?

The devs said you can play solo... but it seems to be an online game.

Wait, what are we signing up for? Jesus, sign me up!

I'm jumping Xbox ship so I'll need friends to play with on PS4. Counting on GAF for that.

I would like to know if there's character customization... creator, etc.

Also... if there's prone in the game

Looks great, but great disappointment with lack of PC version announced.

I don't expect one, though. Ubisoft has been a real prick to PC gamers.

So what is the story behind what this "Division" unit is supposed to be? It is worded like they are activated to regain control or at least keep things in check, but why would different units fight each other like at the end of the video?

Or is the backstory more just to provide a background to this apocalyptic New York?

Seemed like people fighting over supplies. Like when he got that gun in the armory he said "lets get out of here before you lose it". Then at one point there was a citizen that had the disease and they said they didn't have enough meds to treat her. So maybe you get exp and stuff for doing that and you can get more supplies from other players if you kill them or beat them in PvP.

Im down, sign me up. One of my favorite looking games of E3.

I've never played an MMO game before, so I'm just curious if I decide to go solo for a session or something will I have to worry about teams of other people trying to kill me? I'm just trying to figure out if this type of game would be fun for me.

I know nobody here has played the game and it was only announced a couple days ago, but I'm unfamiliar with MMO game play.

Game looks amazing. I got a freedom fighters vibe from it. If not wii u down the line, it'd be nice if they port to pc. Ubisoft is on fire lately.

Nice.

It depends on how the game handles PvP. Other groups of players could possibly engage you on sight or help you out or they could even make it so you can't be attacked by other players at all if you have it turned off in your settings. We have to wait until they release more info on how it works.

They talk about seamless transition from solo to co-op to pvp... presumably, this game is designed to be played however you like. Solo play seems, from what the devs are saying, just as viable (that the game is designed to accommodate it) as cooperative.

Interestingly, they say that coming upon other players in the world isn't necessarily instant pvp, that groups can choose to coordinate on these (the impression I get) dynamic objectives.

It's an entire city, open from the beginning... and your path through it isn't linear.

They didn't say much else, really. Unless someone can dig up some other interviews.

Keeping it on my radar. The setting seem fantastic, i'm not really into MMO but this might be my chance to jump in.

Oh okay like I said I didn't know how this stuff works.

Nice.

Add me as well, haven't been involved with multiplayer games for a couple years, but schools over now so I'd like to get back into it.

Holy Moly! I am 33 and started playing the NES when I was five. This game is the realization of all my day dreams about the potential of playing a movie. This game is simply the culmination of 25 years of expecting or wanting a product that technology couldn't produce. I watched the entire video with an open mouth and raised eyebrows!

Thanks mate.

Unfortunately they go on about the story, which i barely give a shit about, but don't clarify how the game works.

It's an always online open world RPG, and they kind of clarified just the online part of it.
How does the open world work? Why are they calling it an RPG (looks like a shooter, to me) and what's the objective in the game? Basically, what will you be doing for 90% of the time? Are there missions and quests giver? Are there no combat hubs? Or maybe you just scavenge around the city? Is the city fully open or divided in sections? Are there classes? Can you create a character, or do you select one? Etc Etc..

Just imagine the games we'll see 3 years from now man. I hope next gen produces some amazing software gems.

I read on another forum and someone was speculating that this game isn't possible in the form we saw it on PC and XboxOne, so XboxOne version will have noticably less detail.
The amount of detail in every single frame requires a lot of data and Ps4 is the system with enough system bandwidth.
Thats pure speculation, but its actually true that the Ps4 can load 3 times as much data in every frame as XboxOne, but does that limitate the detail beeing shown on XboxOne?

Can't wait for DigitalFoundry comparing Ps4 and XboxOne version. But if this is true then we will easily see the difference because there will be less details on XboxOne.

You are correct in illustrating they do not say very much. It is however more information than was provided by the walkthrough.

Baby steps, I guess... kidding aside I hope we get more details soon. I have many of the same questions.

This seems unlikely. And of course the game could run on PC! lol

Stick me on the list too. By the time this game rolls out I'll probably have purchased a PS4 by then so it'll be cool to go straight into a crew.

It's almost hard to imagine. I think this generational upgrade has produced a much larger jump than the last in the graphic department.

Imagine living in NYC while playing The Division and going to the street of your apartment and scavenging the location of your apartment.

Ha! This is what I'd like to know too. Will the game stay true to NYC or go more down the GTAIV route? They can probably get away with certain locations by just making them completely dilapidated and unrecognizable which would work well in the games context.
