Tom Clancy's The Division - Ubisoft + Massive, MMO Open World TPS RPG

This is amazing looking... but those health bars need to go, stat. Unless it's AI enemies... even then though, don't like them.

Maybe they will have some servers set up that are a little more hardcore-tuned

Anyone else agree this is some of the best animations seen yet in a game. Goddamn beautiful.

It's probably the thing I'm most critical of in games, and what I get the most enjoyment from... if what we've seen here is legit, it's master class stuff.

TLoU is the only thing I've seen that's even close.

We should take inspiration from Shack Tactical and create GAF-Ops or something...

I'm super hyped about this game, the only thing that didn't sit well with me was the MMO type of healing where someone seems to play a healing class and can heal you at range. Maybe if they did it more like a medic class, walk up to someone wounded and do a bandage animation or something.

Very excited to see how this game shapes up closer to launch. Would love to have an open Beta to help iron out the kinks. I really liked that live demo during Sony's press conference.

I gotta say, my favorite part of that demo was the live banter between the players and the audio filter applied to it. I don't know if that was an in-game filter or just a result of their headsets, but I dug it. Also, +10 for having chatter that actually sounded legit and not this awkward, canned, scripted BS we normally have to suffer through.

It isn't (apart from cloud farce).
PCs can't brute force this anymore. Or they will not for some time.

You do know that RAM has to do a lot other than just be VRAM for the GPU, don't you? Especially in large scale open world games? I'd be surprised of the VRAM component amounts to more than 1-2Gb in the early generations of games.

If PS4 loaded itself up with 8Gb of textures there wouldn't be much room left for all the rest of the game! For which a pc will currently have 8-16Gb of dedicated RAM.

Game of the show for me, loved the setting and story and has a Perfect mix TPS/MMO/RPG,

love the way Ubisoft has drawn me in with their new IP's will get these Both Day one -Watch Dogs and now The Division

The demo took place about 15 minutes from where I live, honestly got goosebumps in parts. Seeing New York (and specifically Brooklyn) with this kind of graphical fidelity is going to be stunning, even if it's not a new city for gaming this rendition looks particularly good.

Current gen console ports on PC seems to have often double the specs as minimum requirements. It's not just about RAM, it's about bandwith across the system, and good driver compatibility and so on.

And even if, yes, PCs are much much more powered that those consoles. And could in theory render already some things that those nextgens will never be able to do.

Oh juniors, not knowing how different ram works for a pc then a console.

I'm a very quiet junior. And i'm not comparing UMA vs NUMA or whatever. Plenty of PCs are above 8Gb of RAM right now, it's ok, let it go.

edit: and i'm here just for "the longest junior ever been" contender

My PC would die horribly attempting to play any of the games I'm interested in for next gen.

Considering the lower console overhead, increased bus speeds and the performance of software tailored and optimized for those particular configurations, I have no idea how much it would cost to shell out for a PC that would guarantee the same level of performance.

It sure as hell wouldn't be cheap.

hhmmm don't know what knowledge you have of these kind of things, but the PS4 is relatively weak.

There will be mid-range GPU's released this year that have double the raw power of the PS4's GPU.

CPUs in the average desktop, or even laptop for that matter, are significantly more powerful.

RAM speed arguments are fairly irrelevant. PC has plenty of DDR3 for general use and GDDR5 for texture streaming.

Double the power isn't exactly what it takes for brute forcing things. See emulators.
I have a point.
(i'm exaggerating a lot, it's ok)

700$, maybe a little bit more. It depends what You are aiming for.

I'm seeing a trend here with your arguments.

Emulators are not relevant since you aren't playing the game natively, they are attempting to emulate the hardware.

This process is very difficult when emulating across architectures and with multiple components at play (sound, GPU, CPU, etc).

Current gen console ports on PC seems to have often double the specs as minimum requirements. It's not just about RAM, it's about bandwidth across the system, and good driver compatibility and so on.

Comparing minimal specs are frankly irrelevant.

They aren't standardized whatsoever, and give no performance value relative to the requirements. They really mean nothing.

Double the power is actually probably fairly accurate. I think John Carmack backed that up. Any PC built for gaming in the last year or so should be able to do this game as per the PS4 version. Some of the more crazy high end builds from before that would be able to also.

Emulators are very different. These consoles have very similar architecture to PC's now, and that's where the games are built in the first place.

Let me guess, that's if I made it myself, with no support? I'd be aiming for guaranteed minimum PS4 levels of actual gameplay performance with multiplatform games. It'd have to be the price off the shelf, including basic gaming peripherals (gamepad + headset).

But we can have this challenge closer to or after release. I'd be interested to see how things shake down.

Good PCs will certainly run these nextgen games. But it will not run them with better IQ and framerate while having the same effects on screen the first months. You will have to face the quality vs framerate dilemma.

You don't like it but PC has his gens too. New gen for PCs doesn't come with better hardware, it comes with better compatibility (APIs) and because of consoles advance. Until then it's just an IQ difference.

Crysis is an exception, PCs will always be pushed higher because of new console tech.

PC pissing contest makes this thread less fun... like always.

Man if the entire city is explorable and scavangeable, I will shit bricks. This game is goddamned mindblowing visually. The texture work... holy shit.

RECRUITING: Members for the future NeoGAF PS4 THE DIVISION team. All out, no spammers, no pussies. Mic required. Let's do this on day one! (PS4 version only, other platforms need not apply). ;)

Its not, not even one game from this gen confirms that. HD 4600/5000 in Haswell CPUs is not 2 times faster, yet it runs games faster than consoles.

Because it's not about power. It's exactly what i wanted to say with my words.
First, they will brute force to port things. Then, they will do things they can only do on PC and it's at that time PCs get really higher, independently of power. Because the tools and drivers to push things are there.

Day one!

Game looks fucking awesome, my kind of fun.

I was hoping we could get a gaf group together that was disciplined and tactical... haven't played in a tight-knit 4-man group since OG Ghost Recon and I miss it immeasurably.

I get that not everyone is into that sort of thing though...

Amazing how UBI can pull the rug out from the big first parties at E3. Watch Dogs already day one for me, and the division will follow suit. I thought Titanfall would be my game of show (although I was very impressed with Destiny), but damn this game just looks so next gen to me. Really, really hoping it delivers.

Adding all my future NeoGAF Division Crew onto my PM list for future reference. Gonna explore all sorts of nooks and crannies in Manhattan >:)

When is day one for this?

Who knows! But I'll be there!

Haha, I always fall in the middle of this. Usually, I want a disciplined team who knows when it is time to really play. But, I also want a team that is fun-loving, forgiving and with a great sense of humour. Me and my Left 4 Dead crew were deadly serious when we wanted to, but we all became fast friends joking around together as well.

Destiny is in trouble if they launch at same time I think.

Not just Destiny, there are too many big budget, sci-fi shooters coming. It seemed like over half the games at E3 could be filed under this particular sub-genre!

How many games like this are people realistically going to buy? One or more is going to come up short and bomb horribly, there is no other way.

Same with the driving games, GT6/Forza/Driveclub/TheCrew.

Why do publishers insist on meeting each other head on? Are they all just blindly following the same market research report?

well you can tentatively pencil me in as I wont be there day one. Need to wait till about Feb/March before I can pick up a PS4/game.

Also, if in that time they decide to make a PC version i'll be getting that. So any plans (if it comes to fruition) of a PC team, count me in.
