Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | June 2013 | Late Ports and Late Threads

I have to do a lot of commuting this summer for my new gig (before my new apartment is ready) so I'm considering picking up a handheld for the bus rides.

I know the 3DS has way more games, but I'll eventually use the Vita for PS4 Remote Play... decisions, decisions.... If that FFX HD was out, this wouldn't even be an issue.

Man, I wish Sony would put some vids up on the store for vita. Stuff like Killzone, Dragons Crown, and some of the indie stuff.

Cool. Didn't know he was coming back on.

The home quest stuff wasn't nearly as bad as people made it sound, btw. Sure there's some sloppy stuff (The look of Home in general, the shoddy loading of the info cards, etc), but it was kinda nice to have a mini interactive... thing, in order to learn some info.

We're gamers, we should enjoy playing something, in order to get information, right? And the in-your-face Vita integration was a decent way for Sony to sell the Vita as a companion to PS3-only users.

Only played "Haunt the House" from the freebie PSMobile games so far, but man, that's a great give-away. Short, straight to the point, but full of animation, personality, and charm. And Ms. Fortune's VA from Skullgirls apparently has a voice in there somewhere! Good stuff.

I don't have access to PsHome. Is there an other way to get a beta code?

Not for now. There probably will be later on.

Can't redeem it yet though, right?

From what I've heard, right.

Wha? There ARE Vids on the PSN Store. Maybe only on PS3 in US? I was surprised to see vids for Dragon's Crown (Marked for Vita and PS3), Valhalla Knights 3, RagOdACE, and more...

Read in the other thread that the new oddworld game on the ps4 is also coming to the vita. If so, cool. I know where I will be buying it .

Checked the other day on the Vita store and didn't see anything under new media.

Yup, seems to be another case of "PSN PS3 Updated, PSN Vita left in the dark!"

Well, if you have a PS3, you can find the Videos on it. For Vita, I guess you're left to going to the Playstation Youtube Channel, and viewing them from there.

Finally picked up Persona 4 Golden after playing through Persona 3 four different times. So far it's playing about like I'd expect. Really enjoying the Persona world again.

what's a good controller-grip for the vita?

how about an extremely slim case for it? no need for any extra games, just something to protect it in my pocket.

I use the PDP trigger grips (well I just play the Vita... the grips have been collecting dust)

anyway, I've been bringing my 3DS XL out.. and boy, I do love the Streetpass features and having Nintendo reps visit.

which makes me...

want to have Streetpass on the Vita... it's interesting and some kind of meta-game. GAH. would love to have Cerny, Tretton, Yosp, Shahid or even Kaz come and visit us...

here's a shot with two Nintendo reps. :X

I didn't realized the wrong thread had been bumped and posted in the May thread... Here I go again!

So, I finally bought a Vita! The console itself is really gorgeous.

Tried a few things with it:
- Virtue's Last Reward: Probably the first game I'll get 100% behind since I recently finished 999. Really like it.
- Uncharted: It's alright. More of the same I guess. I'll probably have a good time, finish the campaign once and forget about it entirely.
- Metal Gear Solid 2: booted it for like two minutes, just to see how it plays. Solid port! Too bad my PS3 version is the US one, I can't TRANSFAR my saves.
- Jet Set Radio: great port! Having cloud saving with the PS3 version is soooo good too, since I played a lot of that one already.
- Tales of Hearts (demo): FUCKING SUCKS. I really liked what I played of the DS version, this is as generic and soul-less as it gets. Battle system has been butchered and having random battles when the original game (nor any Tales since, what, Destiny PS2?) didn't is just... Why? I was thinking about buying it, completely changed my mind.
- Phantasy Star Online 2: I only wandered across the ship to see how it ran and all, and I'm really impressed. I still got my character from when I played the game on PC, and I'm definitely going to get a lot of mileage out of this thing.

I still have a looooot of things to try/play, probably way too much actually, the feeling of not knowing what to play is overwhelming. Gravity Rush, Rayman Origins (never played the full game on any other platform so it's actually new for me) and Time Travelers are the other big Vita games I want to play. There are also a few PSP games I want to continue (Trails in the Sky FC and FF Type-0).

(Disclaimer: I didn't had to pay for any of this beside the digital release of FF Type-0, which is only 2100 yen. ALL the rest is PS+ (EU and JP) or F2P (PSO2)).

Games, I'm drowning in them.

Yeah, I transfered some to the Vita.

I suppose it's a bit old fashion with youtube and such to put trailers up for download. I noticed MS has slowed over the years with putting some up on Live although maybe it's the publishers deal. Still, I think you'd want to raise some awareness of it on your platform.

Umm Umm after seeing all those videos. Rayman legends is looking fantastic.
Flower also looks amazing. Hope its crossbuy.
Jak collection is looking ok I guess. Hope we get cross buy as I have jak 1 on psn.

They've gotten really weird with it... PSN had daily updates on their dash during E3, but yet no updates of Vita. And I've noticed quite a few vids of odd things go up with no fanfare at all; people seem to pay no attention to PSN media of that sort.

And then on 360... launch trailers weeks after a game launches! And when they DO a good job of putting up a host of videos (they have a video for each item for their systems at E3), they're behind "Special" advertisements, and streamed to system, with no guarantee that they'll also be able to download separately.

It's a bit annoying, because none of the big console manufacturers seem to have their systems of updating down to a science. Floating-Point upload times, wrong builds getting uploaded to servers, loads of testing still allowing buggy products to release, and no strategy or solid notification towards advertising their releases, save for footnotes in blogs, or mentions by dedicated fans...

Hey! Interested in finishing those last few Rocketbirds co-op levels?

No. Nobody wants to do that. Ever.
I played that damn game 3 times in coop. It will never be allowed on my memory card again. :P

I don't know why everyone expects crossbuy on everything. Limbo was a surprise. Flower seems unlikely to me. Jak and Daxter REALLY seem unlikely.

I already got my platinum thanks to him; just trying to return the favour. We keep getting our wires crossed though lol. Maybe Friday...

Oh, you're being good about it. Good show.
I had that same thing happen, though I had help from a guy from ps3t and from gothpunk who posts here... so I had to pay 2 debts and go through the coop as the client (not-host) twice more.

As soon as gothpunk got the trophy, I told him "my debt has been paid. I am deleting this game." :lol

:lol We're both deleting it as soon as we're done. I'll soon be done with Jacob Jones too; I just need to get the trophies for the cans and the Gnatnobblers (3 in all since I missed the quest opener) then that will be deleted as well.

I'm dropping truth bombs on Twitter today (@IMissBionix)

I'm glad someone said it to him besides "OH NICE INDIES
that no1currs about in the mass-market
THANKS DUDE!"

You're right, there's no GTA/MGS on the system. The biggest WTF is that they could at least harness the backlog of their previous handheld but they haven't released anything in regards to said backlog in ages. I understand the licenses/etc. but is it really that impossible to release Metal Gear AC!D on PSN?

You have no idea what kind of positive effect those indies are having. Without them, 'barren' wouldn't begin to describe the release schedule this year.

I understand how frustrating it is to see a lack of 'big' games on the Vita, but that wouldn't magically stop being the case if there were no indies either. We'd just have even less to play.

Shahid is a victim of people that can't keep their expectations in check and don't understand who they should actually be lashing out at about this stuff.

Tweet @yosp if you want to harass someone.

What?? They are paying for this? Do you have a link, please?

An indie developer said a much in a "Isn't Vita great for indies?" thread. It would explain why many of these ports are handled by outside studios.

I'm not even convinced that Vita is some indie god. It's rarely an option on Kickstarter campaigns.

Wait, Mercenary Kings is only coming to the PS4? That and Contrast were the games I was interested in.

For crying out loud, it's coming to the Ouya. Why not the Vita, too?

Well.... it's hard to contain expectations when we got all the AMAZING! FANTASTIC! SUPERB! DELICIOUS! tweets you know, from an official Sony guy tasked with bringing games to the platform even.

One cannot be faulted to think (hope) that such words may have merit.

Just give it some time. Sony seems to be happy touting these less-than-impressive-for-PS4 style games for PS4, just to say "PS4 SUPPORTS INDIES!". I'm happy for the guys, but this feels REALLY REALLY weird from the company that wouldn't let Working Designs release Growlanser games separately to retail, back in the day.

Once devs have their hands free of a few versions of the game being coded, we'll probably see the Vita ports come later. Maybe even sooner, if Sony feels like assisting.

Besides, they'd be great things to throw in at Gamescon; "We still don't have Gravy Rush 2, Drake Golden Showers, or Panopticonitron for you, but here, take this much-requested Mercenary Kings port! With Touch screen support for Pinching in/out the stage, to use as it's own map, and back-touch allowing you to find NEW hidden materials in the background!"

I'd... kinda be ok with that... Just a little.

Over thepast five years SCE has changed dramatically for better and for worse.

Things I expext to get more showw time at Gamescom and TGS than Vita: PS4 Home and PS4 OS demo

I actually hope they do a OS demo which shows remote play working. They have shown it once so far..

Maybe a home that's cross play between vita and ps4 :p

do we need another #hashtag movement...

but I think we just need to give them a little more time to show their stuff

(though it'll be nice if they started a Vita Ambassador program or something)

With LBP Karting now free on PS3+ I'm really hoping for LBP Vita some time soon. From what I've seen in the demo it's not exactly a game I'd be willing to churn money out for as it doesn't click with me too perfectly, but it would be nice to try and maybe let the game convince me ;)

An indie developer said a much in a "Isn't Vita great for indies?" thread. It would explain why many of these ports are handled by outside studios.
Uh, outsourcing ports is common practice for studios with limited resources. Happens all the way up to AAA titles, like Divekick dev Iron Galaxy doing the PS3 version of Bioshock Infinite.

If you look at Dennaton for example, they're a two man team, using a high level development tool with no console support, seemingly struggling to produce a bug-free PC version of Hotline Miami while also working on a sequel. The idea that they could also do PS3/Vita versions themselves in any reasonable time-frame is pretty far fetched.

Anyway, just because Sony provides funding for some of the releases, you can't really assume they're doing it for all. JAW/Oddworld is self-funded for example. Also, you're assuming that the funding deals aren't over all profitable for Sony. I doubt they're just mindlessly handing out free money. If they're anything like the Pub Fund deals for example, Sony gets all the money from sales until their investment is paid back.

Your post somewhat implies that you can read Japanese so this is hardly surprising. The Vita's doing pretty well in Japan right now. Lack of games only applies to us non-Japanese-fluent peasants.

Well at least KT is rather quick to localize their games, so it's fortunate they are still supporting Vita.
It's 10th time for me to say that Bamco really should localize OP Pirate Warriors 2 for Vita.
