Angry Joe: Major Nelson Interview (Xbox One) E3 2013

No, I haven't "always been on the MS train".

I've just mostly played on the system that has things that are better for be personally.

I went from PS2, to Xbox 360 as my main consoles. I was going to get a PS4 first until I heard about the family share plan which would personally be better to me.

Outside of that, I don't get what your reply has anything to do with what I stated.

Are you serious? You are known on this board as an xbox whore. Sorry if that hurts your feelings.

Also, he called himself the father and Joe the son. He sure knows how to work inexperienced interviewers.

Major Nelson (putting his arm around Joe): "Do you want to come to the future with me Joe?

Joe: "I DO want to come to the future but... erm... Well thank you very much!"

That literally happened.

I am not trying to give him too much shit, though. Joe seems like a genuinely nice guy. He was just out of his league. But live and learn. He'll get better if he keeps at it.

Being able to share DLC as well as games (single player) sounds too good to be true.
You do realise that if the PS4 carries forward the PS3's digital policies, you will be able to share DLC (or digitally downloaded full retail games) on the PS4..?
MS needs to come out with a blog clearing all of this up immediately.
If they truly had all this worked out, there'd be a post out there for everyone to read.

Let me get this straight, you think all this BS is worth going with Xbone when this is limiting as hell. How do you think MP games are going to work? Do you think 2 out of your 10 friends are going to be allowed to enjoy CoD Ghosts at the same time without being logged into the master account?

Do you understand that even I'm confused and I've been a part of a family plan.

It's not necessary and not better than PS4. I don't care how you word it and I'm trying to be as polite as can be. This whole Xbone situation is such a mess I can't even recommend it on the merit of games because the red tape involved with MSFT's policies. I don't know of anyone who is willing to bend over backwards like this other than 2 of my die hard 360 friends.

Haha, why are you trying to push what's personally better for you on to me?

Even if the family share plan is just sharing single player games, it's still better for me. It would save me and my friends money.

Plus, it would be more convenient. I wouldn't have to travel with a disc just to share a game. I could do it instantly.

If that isn't better for you then that's fine. Just don't tell me what's better for me when you are (obviously) not me.

nah not at all. Some really good straight forward questions that we all been having about the system and its features. MJ is just showing his PR skills or lack of it without giving any proper answers
Ah, same old story then.

Edit: watching it now and man is he spinning the shit out of issues. Answering questions with questions? Fuck outta here.

Didn't Sony try the game share thing on the PS3 in the beginning for up to 4 people and that backfired? How is that different than family plan? Confused?

Good question overall by Joe. :)

Oh God that moment at 11:40 when MN takes the mic out of AJ's hand is awful D:

Larry seems to be fighting a one man PR battle at the moment, while the suits who came up with these daft policies cancelled their interviews. Cowards!

You know what, Joe handled himself really well there. He cut off his bullshit when needed and didn't do it without being super rude. He can't be a complete dickwad face to face, but he really handled it really well. He navigated through the bullshit as good as someone could without coming off as a douche.

And as a Peruvian, I loved the Peru shoutout LOL. This machine is DOA in Latin America.

Yea this is bullshit and i'll tell you why.

Good interview.

Yeah major nelson stated many of his answers with PR twist/terms but that's his job.

Overall, it still seems to me that Xbox is giving more people options to share digitally than physically while it's vice versa for the PS4.

Bullshit

Sony would never allow a family plan similar to what's (supposedly) coming on to the Xbox One. The PS4 is already opened as it is when it comes to physical discs. The Xbox One could do things like the family share plan because of its restrictions on discs.

You don't know what Sony would and wouldn't allow, they have already stated that PS+ subscription can be shared by 4 accounts on a given console. weeks ago, people swore Sony will have used games DRM and online check.

If the PS4 had the family plan ON TOP of not having any restrictions on games on discs, then things would be too opened. Keeping things the way they are now with discs + the family plan = a ton of people sharing/pirating games instead of buying them. Publishers wouldn't support the PS4 at all if that happened.

The family plan is you can share your library but only one person can play at a given time, while on PS3 and PS4 you can share your library with any 2 consoles and both can play the same game at the same time.

The Xbox One could drop the DRM issues but if they did, the family plan would have to go (for the same exact reasons I stated above).

No, they can drop the DRM and the family plan will still be limited to only 1 person being able to play at a given time.

But yeah, it seems like this next gen is physical (PS4) vs. digital (Xbox One). Choose what's best for you and then go from there.

No PS4 will have physical games without DRM and also Digital games you can download day one and play on any 2 consoles concurrently.

Or, if you want all of the games, get both. :)

Yes you can get both so stop trying to make up stuff to make PS4 seem worst when it comes to digital games.

"You could tether to your phone"

Yes Major, let's run up our data plans to play shit on an xbone.

or an idea. Have folks buy Windows phone. Have them tether with their windows phone and microsoft will take in the cost or subsidize the cost.

Crazy idea. lol

Is Major Nelson for real about publishers/CDProjekt not wanting to do DRM, no restriction of selling games etc. that MS will help them out on that front? Somehow I doubt it.

It was just poorly worded. Any conclusions drawn from that bit would be just simply grasping at straws, Major Nelson just didn't want to / couldn't say "Nope, you can't opt out of the 24h check ins and used games restrictions." outright.

"Xbox, play the most recently played game."

"I can't let you do that, Dave. You don't call, you don't write, you haven't checked in in the past 24 hours."

"Xbox, but it's Witcher 3, CDPR are cool with that!"

"Oh, in that case go ahead, Dave."

Yeahhh, I don't think so.

the Family Plan is the only good stuff they can talk about and if people just buy it because of the Family Plan i can easily see that the abuse will be just to much. And at the end the Family Plan becomes very restricted.

Would be interesting to know how much people here, who would buy a X1, are only doing it to abuse the Family Plan?

"You could tether to your phone"

Yes Major, let's run up our data plans to play shit on an xbone.

Yeah, I love that his solution is to pony up extra money (for the tethering fee because you know that isn't free in the US) in order to continue playing your games.

Since the PS4 is keeping things the same as they are now for Xbox 360/PS3 for physical game restrictions, I can't see Sony putting a family share plan on the PS4 as opened as MS could possibly do for the Xbox One.

If the PS4 had the family plan ON TOP of not having any restrictions on games on discs, then things would be too opened. A ton of people would never buy games. Publishers would hate that.

The Xbox One could drop the DRM issues but if they did, the family plan would more than likely have to go (for the same exact reasons I stated above).

I'd figure the Xbone is DOA in every place that isn't the USA.

Joe: "I DO want to come to the future but... erm... Well thank you very much!"

That literally happened.

Yup. It's okay if you do it with experienced interviewers, honestly, Keighley can take it. But if the interviewer is obviously nervous and just inexperienced, you shouldn't do it, it just comes off as sooo arrogant.

Grrrrraahhhh!

What an infuriating experience for Joe. He really was trying to hit the ball back at him there and they shuffled him along. (7.28) Nelson was about to trip and the powers at be in the background pulled him outta the fire. Watch how MN stops like a whipped slave, gun to the head as soon as the hierarch intervenes.

Ridiculous.

Well done, Joe. Good to see them struggle when they come up against someone who is well informed, and not some poor every day consumer who is wooed into buying this thing.

Poor show, Microsoft.

Yeah, I love that his solution is to pony up extra money (for the tethering fee because you know they isn't free in the US) in order to continue playing your games.

Hot spotting on my phone is free; think its due to me being on a mobile share plan.

But yeah, it's obviously different for other people.

I watched him for a while, but he doesn't own a PS3. Plus he critics games I already know/played through. I feel the same way about him as I do any caster or reviewer. They're somewhat entertaining at first. But you realize you could of just used the time to play through the frigging game yourself.

I watched MANvsGAME for a while, it was good. But I would rather play through the game myself than watch someone else run through it. Possibly spoiling the entire plot.

Angry Joe does his interviews like that. Like with Geoff Keighley. I just think I know enough to warrant not watching/listening to everything. In that video I think Geoff is lost in transition mode because of his job. Able to answer questions on a rim. If you were say Reggie or a known developer. Maybe he'd be more open. I think he's possibly a Playboy in the industry right now.

But when that crapstorm settles you realize you're just a gamer/a consumer. You see a game you like, you read up on it, watch videos/what's available. Then you wait for reviews. Read a few reviews and check for prices if you want. Prices may vary.

Most already known magazines and long time internet websites have all the info someone needs to voice their own opinion. One good thing about these type of people. If your friends are giving you a hard time for liking another game or video games. Then the videos and whatnot are somewhat uplifting.

I would of given him more credit if he owned more consoles. Watching a few superhero titles on 360 and a bunch of so-called Triple A games. I'd rather make my own judgement. And I would rather burn my money than spend it on superhero games.

If Joe is beating himself up over that interview, he shouldn't be. I'm sure it's very hard to toe the line between asking hard questions and getting people to actually interview with you. People expecting him to be Angry Joe during an interview are a bit silly.

Haha, why are you trying to push what's personally better for you on to me?

Even if the family share plan is just sharing single player games, it's still better for me. It would save me and my friends money.

If that isn't better for you then that's fine. Just don't tell me what's better for me when you are (obviously) not me.

You also understand that with all this UNWANTED red tape that MSFT is putting you through that it also alienates many good to do consumers that either have shady internet and limited money.

Why in Gods green earth should we accept what MSFT is trying to push on us here. Can you not see how bad this is in part due to MSFT's piss poor explanation methods and these Q&A's have often left us asking more questions.

And you say this family share feature is the reason to for you to go over PS4? Without getting into a laundry lists of pluses about PS4, I can't accept that answer. At this point, with all the red tape involved, it's hard for me to take that when MSFT's 2 big competitors are doing things for the consumer. FOR THE CONSUMER, not stagnating used games and shackling you to an unwanted DRM system on Xbone.

I'm not even getting into how MSFT interviews have been so opposite of the Sony guy interviews. I'm sorry if it was the other way, I would be panning Jack Tretton or any of the other guys. Where are you as a gamer when these Sony guys are championing used games, championing the consumers rights, and stating this is about making gamers and devs happy?

The contrast is so stark it's paramount. MSFT is busy sending all these messages and even confusing themselves with all these weird answers.

But aren't the PS3 digital policies only for smaller PSN titles?.

It works for big games but to be honest, I haven't tried it with big games like CoD. I was shared Nino Kuni or everything on the current account I swap with a fellow gaffer. I can't account for big MP games though so someone else will have to clarify on that front.

To be clear, I have nothing against you but this situation is so confusing and unnecessary.

major, stop avoiding the real problems at hand. The benefits do not outweigh whats wrong with the system. Have you not seen the backlash?

Yeah, I love that his solution is to pony up extra money (for the tethering fee because you know that isn't free in the US) in order to continue playing your games.

And the fact you have to do something so fucking unreasonable just to play your console is ridiculous. I can't believe he even suggested that.

No, I haven't "always been on the MS train".

OWN IT man everyone knows you're more of an Xbox guy, it's cool, just own it, because it's so transparent.

Funny that it takes a youtube personality to ask hard hitting journalistic questions. I can imagine that MS PR wanted to jump at this throat.

But aren't the PS3 digital policies only for smaller PSN titles?
No. It's the full download list.

Even PS+ can be shared between consoles.

I played Hitman: Absolution off my sister's PS+ plan on a different console, as our accounts are on each system.

I added my Thieves in Time cross-buy PSV download to her account on my system. She downloaded it from hers.

But aren't the PS3 digital policies only for smaller PSN titles?

Nope it applies to all digital purchases and you keep saying family plan when the plan is only one family member can play at a given time so thats not really sharing is it? On current PS3 policy which i'm sure will carry to PS4 as it is also currently on PS Vita, You can purchase a game from PSN and play on any 4 compatible devices at the same time. Now stop making up stuff, i've seen you post the same thing about PSN sharing policy which is not true at all.

Damn, MS reps really didn't want to keep that interview going once they realised Angry Joe wasn't going to softball the questions in.

Funny how pissed off Major Nelson got too, must have expected a fawning interview about how awesome the Xbone is.

I think Joe did a great job all things considered. He may have appeared somewhat flustered, rushed and unprepared, but interviewing these grizzled PR giants as well as trying to get the tough questions in there and staying composed is Incredibly difficult.

I hope Joe does more of these and keeps getting better.

I kinda feel bad for Joe, since if you conduct an actual hard-hitting interview, MS will just cart off MN and blacklist you from any events.

Tough balancing act.

Joe good job you didn't seem like a mechanical journalist, lol - sounded like someone off of here asking genuine questions that people really want to know.

Some cringeworthy spinning by Hyrb. Also Joe's going really soft on them compared to his "you fucking idiots!" rants when he doesn't have to confront a person.

Yelling at a well trained PR shill wouldn't accomplish much and make you look like an idiot. It's best to form well thought out questions and try to show your audience how shitty and slimy these people are at dodging.

major, stop avoiding the real problems at hand. The benefits do not outweigh whats wrong with the system. Have you not seen the backlash?

Can't really expect him to do much else - he has no say on these policies, and if he wants to keep his job he has to defend them. I kinda pity him, his higher ups cancelled their interviews and have essentially left him to deal with all this shit.

Top Bottom
