Yeah I was quite disappointed by this answer. He seemed to really underestimate the time it takes to form a bond with another player, especially in something that requires a good level of co-operation. Then saying you could do it through FATE was doubly confusing.

Do FATEs at higher levels involve more than just zerging mobs/killing 1 npc/collecting stuff? If they become more involved at higher levels this could be true. Like a massive version of the guildhest described a few posts up. I doubt it but who knows.

Guildhests are unlocked around level 15 and can be found on Battle Wardens located at various camps. To join a Guildhest, you have to have a full party of four players. You will ideally want a typical party setup with a tank and a healer but we were able to manage the lower level Guildhests without a dedicated healer. This may not be the case as the content scales out but the way the instances are designed, I think that party composition is not as important as in dungeons. There was little penalty for dying as you can instantly respawn and run back into the battle.

Anyway, the Guildhest itself is an instanced challenge with a time limit and objectives that vary depending on the Guildhest chosen and usually contains some type of boss mob to challenge. They are small and linear areas with a clearly defined objective.

In one example, you have to defeat a giant turtle that is constantly being healed by enemy NPCs, while Eft adds continually spawn in over time. The goal is to keep the Eft spawns at bay, eliminate all the mages, and then weaken the turtle. Once the turtle is weakened, a fire spirit spawns. You kill the fire spirit and obtain a core which is then used at a specific location to activate a type of gas that is used to trap the monster. From there, the party lures the giant turtle onto the trap and completes the Guildhest.

You get a massive amount of experience points for completing a Guildhest the first time but subsequent attempts result in a much lower amount of experience points. I am not certain if this 'first time bonus' resets daily or if you only get it once. As you complete Guildhests and level up, you unlock more. I saw at least 5 or more for each level range at 10, 15, and 25 respectively for a total of around 15-20 Guildhests. There will probably be encounters to challenge all the way up to level 50 at launch.

Damn this sounds fun has hell! can't wait to try this out! I was wondering when the party stuff would start happening!

Thanks for the info!

For those that haven't, you should definitely voice your thoughts and concerns about the current state of the game on the beta forums. It sounds like open beta (phase 4) is being treated as a trial, so this may be your last chance to have your feedback heard by the developers and acted upon prior to live service.

I'm basing this on information from a recent interview. It doesn't sound like the game will include 30 days of free game time as the original did. Yoshida said they are treating the open beta as their trial period and may consider something like a 1-2 week trial, 6 months or so down the road.

You can't post feedback during the week though, and General Discussion is a terrible place to post feedback.

Which is a shame because I had some feedback to give on the damn new profanity filter that doesn't aknowledge the French word "petit" has nothing to do with boobs at all, and I should be able to name my Free Company after my former LS.

We had a lot of fun doing them. I hope to see much more party based content like this in the future.

The 15 minute per post limit is bad enough. I'll be too busy playing on Friday and Saturday so I guess I'll start dumping all my feedback on Sundays.

While I initially thought the same as you, I think we might have misunderstood him. I think that what he means by "trial period" is the ability to download the game for free and play for a couple weeks (like you can for most established MMORPGs like FFXI and WoW).

I feel pretty confident that the game purchase still comes with 30 days free.

The 15 minute per post limit is bad enough.

I think the 750 character limit might be worse, even if you can get around it be editing your post afterwards.

Next test:

June 21, 2013 (Friday), 2:00 a.m. to June 23, 2013 (Sunday), 2:00 a.m. (PDT)
June 21, 2013 (Friday), 9:00 a.m. to June 23, 2013 (Sunday), 9:00 a.m. (GMT)

Yay, super hyped. And this time I won't waste all of Friday trying to download the client either!

There is a youtube video of Yoshi showing off a higher level FATE. They're still very "zergy" but the objectives are a bit more involved. The one he showed you have to protect villagers from bandits. If any get kidnapped it sets off another FATE where you have to storm the enemy camp and rescue them. If none of the villagers are kidnapped then you get a special boss. Ill see if I can find the video.

He also says there are 300 FATEs in the game.

Another cool thing about Guildhest is they don't appear to require a healer. At least all the level 10-15 ones I did didn't require one long as you do the objective right, and most of the big mobs are actually kitable.

Really, really hoping this is the case. Still, soloing your first 10-15 levels in XI was somewhat challenging--a rite of passage. Goblins, Yagudo and occasional undead that could catch you off-guard and destroy you. So far with XIV... that kind of challenge just isn't there. At all. There's no rite of passage, there's just "lalala mashing buttons and killing stuff that barely hurts me."

I disagree

From what i played only a 3 level difference between me and the monster can mean survival or death .
i died 5 times during last week so for me , teh game can trhoughly destroy you if you go "adventuring unprepared" or without a party ..

I like that.

Your level 15 class quest and the level 15 main story quest are pretty much that passage in this.

One locks you out of one of your classes abilities, the other locks you out of dungeons so you can't play with others who have completed it.

I think the most difficult part of this game is creating a Square-enix account. Currently listening to a friend try to work his way through that godawful site...

edit: code didn't work for my friend

"The code's region is inapplicable.
You can only enter codes from the same region as your Square Enix account.

Hey gang; I have been lurking here for awhile, following talk about ARR on GAF since the beginning of the community thread, but thought it was high time to jump into the conversation. I thought I'd break the ice by composing a really big post that most people won't read.

First things first: I am EXCITE! But am also hella torn between Legacy and Fresh Start servers. I'd almost like to wait to see if Legacy economy/social structure is a big deal after launch, but... that means fucking waiting and shit c'mon.

Separately, I wanted to CAUTION people who have all their Collector's Edition eggs in a PS4 basket. I'm not sure this Collector's Edition is going to be made available again, in this form, for the PS4 version of ARR. We will probably see something physical, because it will probably release with the first expansion on disc—but it was the fanfare around this "rebirth" of FFXIV that manifested this amazing PS3/PC Collector's Edition, and I just can't imagine things coming together again similarly for the PS4 release. I could be wrong, but I personally wouldn't want to take the chance—dat Akihiko Yoshida artbook, hnnghgh!

Lastly, I am CONFUSED about this quote from the Nova Crystalis interview posted recently:
Nova Crystallis: How long after the game launch do you expect to allow Legacy characters to migrate to new servers?
Yoshida: We are thinking around six months. We will be checking the data on our side and we will see how the players are mixing, where they are going, and how the server balances are. We may push that date forward depending on these factors.

Does this mean world transfer needs to take place within 6 months of launch, or that it cannot take place until 6 months after launch?

And there you have it! My debut post, thank you thank you.

He means that Legacy characters won't be able to transfer before 6 months (Q1-Q2 2014). Basically, he wants new servers to 'catch up' with Legacy servers and establish their own economy before allowing transfers.

Welcome. And what I derived from that Nova Crystallis interview question was that Legacy players wouldn't be able to transfer off Legacy servers to Regular servers for at least 6 (Or maybe sooner, as he noted) months.

Nope. Is that all I need to do, just add an EU PSN account to my PS3? I remember adding a JPN PSN account way back for Tekken 5 to download.

Yeah, for the PS3 download code you will need to use a store that accepts an EU code, so any EU country should do it. Once you download the client, switch to your main PSN account and enter your SE information.

On that note, you also have to create a German/EU SE account as well. When you are going through the sign up it asks you for the 20 digit code as well and it only works with an account of the same region.

Damn, that's a fantastically hilarious avatar. I plan on getting the Lift Your Skinny Fists album cover as a tattoo one day.

I'm assuming I can enter my PC data and be fine? I really don't want to bother creating another SE account.

So last week's beta got me to upgrade my GPU and OC my CPU, and I am super amped to try it again this weekend.

Is phase IV open beta, and do we have an approximate date for that? Can't wait to play this for real.

Phase 4 is open but they haven't announced a date. It really depends on how Phase 3 goes but it might start by the end of July if everything works out.

Re-asking from a couple of pages ago. Don't want my wrists to die on Friday. Any help ;_;?

For those playing pad, is there a button or option to keep L2 or R2 depressed? Like a "lock" toggle or something? Wrist was getting pretty sore during combat having to hold R2 down for ages while occasionally tapping a face button. I know you could release the trigger during the cool-down but pressing it every 2 seconds or whatever doesn't sound much better.

Are there any videos of this game being played on a ps3 or is that kind of thing under NDA?

I'm considering buying it if I like the open beta enough.

When are 1.0 people getting in the beta anyway? I have a friend that REALLY wants to play with me but she couldn't log in during the last test. It just straight up said her account was inactive or something like that. And she got an email saying she would get to play in the beta too.

Yup there is. There's also a super slick "variable" option that allows both. If you quick tap the trigger it locks to where you have to hit the trigger again (toggle), and if you hard press/hold the trigger it works like default (hold).

NDA but there are the Tour of Eorzea videos. #2 shows more Ps3 version and is more polished up.

Should have gotten two emails last week, one which contained instructions for getting her account ready for the beta. I think all 1.0 folks got in last weekend (I did, as did my roommate).
