Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | June 2013 | Late Ports and Late Threads

It's probably the effect of coming over from the 3DS version.

Edit: Yay top of the page! Buy Soul Sacrifice and DL Gods Eater Burst! The two hunting games who actually have a strong (relatively) narrative! Lets show that there's interest for 2 on both games!

Well both were ported from a last gen platforms (PS2 for J&D and Stranger's Wrath for Xbox) to the PS3, and then finally over to the Vita. And I'm not going to pretend the J&D port wasn't harder to accomplish - after all, PS2 had a way more odd architecture than the Xbox - but this is a first party game and it should have been given more care. It shouldn't have been this bad.

Of course, just to be clear, this isn't a BAD port. It's still easily playable, but it's very disappointing to say at the very least. I may find later in the game with things like vehicles that the games could become unplayable, though.

Big difference.

Stranger's Wrath went from Xbox/PC to Xbox360/PS3/PC to Vita
Jak and Daxter went from PS2 to PS3 to Vita. I wish I could find the video where they talk about the voodoo that ND originally used on PS2 and how it was next to impossible to translate some of that stuff to PS3.
Now imagine that you take Jak and Daxter and try to squeeze it onto a platform less powerful than the PS2.

I'm not making excuses... the fact that it's playable is pretty cool though... that it's not a R&C:FFA or something worse (if it exists).

If the Vita isn't dead soon, maybe someday they'll figure out how to work some voodoo and then shit like this will work better.

Maybe we'll get SD memory as well with a vita revision. :P

Ugh, forcing myself to finish Book of Memories

Just 3 more fucking bosses

Why am I doing this, what a fucking terrible game

Bought the Vita as my birthday present. It was a competitively impulse buy because I was going to buy a PS2 with shit loads of cheap games. However in my job I do a lot of travelling, so I figured it would be a waste of money as I would have to sell it or abandon it at the end.

Anyway, I bought a Vita instead and I was really anxious about it, but it's turned out to be a really neat little machine.

Yea. It was a life saver for long trips. If you take flights often, you may want to consider buying a battery pack. I bought an external charger for a flight and it was a lifesaver. Be careful though, not all chargers work with the vita (I heard the vita has an extra pin in the USB or something).

I don't mind the framerates in the J+D collection at all. After about 15 minutes of play I don't really notice them anymore. But I've never been particularly sensitive to them... i think my eyes are just old.

I'd like to believe I'm sensitive to those things, but a stable framerate honestly eliminates these issues for me. granted I'm basing this on not having seen/ played the HD collection at all though and rather just on general stuff.

Is it locked at all? Or all over the place?

Yeah I got a Vita as a birthday present too. It's awesome.

Just got a 3DS as well so I'm set for life.

Long trips eh?

Time to bust out Vita.

And when the battery ran out, hey how are you 3DS XL!

That ran out too, time to pull out my DSL.

Oh, and if that ran out too, then PSP.

If that ran out too, then I guess I just sleep the whole way to the finish line then, hahaha.

For me it's
Vita First
Then 3DS
Then DSi XL
Then DS Lite
Then GBA SP
Then N Gage
There is no journey too long for me.

Dude. Just buy a portable charger.

how long does the portable charger last for?

You can buy ones with different capacities, depending on your needs. Mine is 5000mah, which allows me to charge my vita from flat to full for 1.5 to 2 times over, so maybe 5-7 hours extra gametime? More than enough for the 15 hour flight I took the last time (I didn't play for 15 hours though, I also slept). I've seen some guys buy one with 11000mah, so that is maybe an extra 15 or 16 hours of juice.

Not every portable charger works though. There is an official sony one that is guaranteed to work, but if you want to look at other options, here's a thread with people talking about it:

I should probably buy one of those one of these days. It's just that I don't travel that often so I think it would pretty much be a waste, but I guess no harm in buying it.

Well, if you don't travel much it will not be of much use. I love mine though. Use it for all my phones, cameras, and of course my vita.

It's not an error, the game will be on Friday along with Jack Trilogy and the new Lego game. It always sucks that they have to wait longer (now joined by Ireland) even though the games are in the store.

Ah, nice one. I thought that might be the case. I'll grab it on Friday then.

N-Gage is an odd addition, hahaha.

Hey what can I say, unlike Sony or Nintendo handhelds it has a legitimate Elder Scrolls game.

Vita port please? :P

Looking at battery capacity it should at least double it.

neat. i'll have to invest in one.

also, i love ps1 emulation on this thing. i hope sony doesnt screw us over with ps1 emulation on ps4, it's part of the reason why i'm wiling to buy these games again!

the pricing error (that caused the Vita version to be free in parts of EU) seems to have hinted of a Cross-Buy possibility :X

Well, the game is out right now in the US and nobody mentioned anything, so I'll have to assume no. The free price could, however, suggest that they are planning to put it on PS+ some time in the future though. hmmm...

Just noticed it says so in the game's description on the Vita store (it's different from the one on the website for some reason) so I can confirm it firsthand.

AFAIK in the EU, all digital versions of Jak & Daxter Collection is the crossbuy. Yes, this includes the PS3 version, which I recall having a cracker deal a few months ago.

Got MotoGP 13 in the mail today. First impression: Very good port, career mode is intact (you start in Moto 3 and go up to MotoGP from there), sub-native res but very steady framerate.

Just like the console version, it's not a casual racing game though, the handling is very unforgiving. Really fun and challenging though if you're willing to adapt to it, though.

I'll post screens and maybe gameplay videos later today.

Nice! Sounds promising. I reckon I'll grab it as soon as it goes up on the store. How's the throttle / brake control feel with the digital triggers?

The digital triggers work surprisingly well. I was afraid I'd miss the analog controls after trying the PS3 demo yesterday, but I'm actually perfectly happy without them too.

You can also choose to control the front/rear brakes separately which might help for more precision if you want it, haven't tried that yet however.

Nice, good to hear they kept in the proper brake controls. I figure I'll use 'X' for accelerate and stick the brakes on the triggers. Thanks for the impressions!

Appreciated!

*sigh* You'd hope someone is testing the store. Afterall it's kinda important to the business :-)
Imo is more a wifi connection problem.

Just got my Legends of War import from Zavvi! I'll try and report back with impressions, unless the curse hits me.
Take precautions!

How do you switch regions on vita?

I have two memory sticks which I know you need.
1)remove memory 1
2)turn on your vita
3)deactivate and format vita(you will lose all the icons positions, browser favorites etc)
4)turn off vita
5)insert memory 2
6)turn on vita and do the setup

It's a little annoying, but easy, and if you do everything right it does not take too much time

Honestly my only gripe with switching accounts on the Vita because I'm OCD about that stuff. I wished icons would also be stored on the Vita's internal memory so they didn't disappear when you switch out memory cards.

So, Epic Mickey 2 is going to be £11.99 on the store tomorrow. Worth it? Did they make any improvements over the console versions?

So for some reason I'm really interested in Epic Mickey 2. Never played the original and have no idea what to expect with this one, but somehow I'm not believing all the bad press this one got on the consoles...

Anyone buy this on Vita?

Has anyone tried out the Football Manager Handheld 2013 PSP version? It's got a discount on now and I wouldn't mind some Football Manager on my Vita, provided it's good.

I am delighted to hear this.

I still long for a return to the glory days of the Climax developed Moto GP games but a competent handheld version certainly goes some way towards easing the pain.

Also keep in mind the battery lasts about twice as long when playing PS1 and PSP games.

oh man ive lost my Assassins creed cart :/ it must've fallen out of my vita case somewhere, if that's not an incentive to go more digital i don't know what is
