TRUTHFACT: MS having eSRAM yield problems on Xbox One

Cboat is stretching some stuff, at least when it comes to MS, nowadays. Considering everything is changing constantly, he is not as reliable.

So you're saying that while they may be having some yield issues, they aren't as severe as people think? I can live with that.

As long as both companies can avoid catastrophic failure of the hardware then I'll be happy.

I'm assuming that's why the Xbox One is so much larger than the PS4, and has an external power supply. MS wants to make damn sure that doesn't happen again.

That's my take on it, at least as to why the Xbone is that much bigger than the PS4. They know how bad it will look if we have a RROD 2.0 (got my 3rd one today :S ). What scares me though is Sony going so small. I mean, I do see it working, however, this early in the game, knowing that my launch PS3 got the YLOD, I wish they'd have gone a little bigger, although I might be worried for nothing.

With all the vents on the back of the PS4 I'm not worried.

Nobody is forcing him to respond to a tweet.
There is the whole PR statement "We don't comment on rumor or speculation"

But commenting in this case is putting down a potentially damaging rumour: Actually saying something in key places is part of good PR. "No commenting" everything that is true lends credence to those issues.

If you have not noticed their PR department has been quite horrible recently. There has been many contradictions between pr people/outlets, horrible wording, and lying.

Forza native 1080p 60fps
Ryse native 1080p 30fps
Killer Instinct native 1080p 60fps
Project Spark native 1080p 30fps
Fifa 2014 native 1080p 60fps

All of the above were running on actual Xbox One hardware.
Let's see...the games running at 60 fps (Forza, KI, Fifa) have current gen counterparts that also run at 60Hz. So we can get them at 1080p now without big improvements in graphics.

Well you could say the same thing about the PS3,What good is performance if it does not show in games?

and I to expect better framerates on PS4, like the 360 had this gen.

No, you could not say the same about the PS3.
All the extra power the PS3 had was tied up in the SPEs in CELL (and thus needed a large amount of effort to make use of), the GPU was kind of worse than the 360's GPU.
That is not the case this time, the PS4's extra power is in the GPU and thus does not need any extra programming to take use of.

Remember the heat issues with the first Xbox? Remember the heat issues and disc scratching with the 360?

What makes you think Microsoft could finally get it right, over a decade later?

Do you remember Xbox 360 Slim?

Do you remember YLOD?

LOOOOOOL. Forza 5 has big improvements in graphics.

Then, remember all PS3 games at 30fps? we can get them at 1080p now without big improvements in graphics...

What happen to people now? console war?

There's a world of difference between the 360's build quality and the PS3s.

Consoles die. I've lost a Genesis, Gamecube, 60GB PS3 and a 360 due to hardware failures.
But you'd have to be missing out on the world to think the PS3 failure rate even got CLOSE to approaching the Xbox 360's.

Yes, RROD was really bad, BUT Xbox One is a NEW CONSOLE, and since years RROD is not an issue for new models.

Do you really think Microsoft will lose all the lost money by RROD again?

PD: New forum desing.

Forza 5 = FM4 with photomode models in-game + 1080p + some more polys for scenery, same fixed lighting, same daylight only, same shader complexity.

If you don't see big gfx improvements in infamous and Killzone, I don't know what to say.

This time around? I'd seriously think they got their act together, hence the discussion of the low yields. They're really playing it safe. Especially in price.

I don't know why you're trying to minimize the improvements in Forza 5, but it is ok, a lot of webs (including Digital Foundry) saw the improvements.

Are you implying that they will not lose money from a new RROD because the price? Lol, low yields is not the same than hot chips.

Ummm...those are big improvements? Just because they are not as huge improvements as some other games in E3, doesn't mean that they're small.

They are big improvements, and @60fps ;)

Only because you can't (or don't want) see them, it doen't mean they aren't big improvements.

Not to mention dishonest.

MS laughs at the face of integrity in the games industry. Moneyhats all round.

Do not judge system capabilities based on launch software.

Even if it's running hot I dont see them having the same problems as the red ring disaster. The X1 box is very big and it has a massive fan so I dont think overheating will be a problem again.

Wouldnt reliability rather than heat be a big factor? 5Billion transistors and all, its a complex design, what would the failure rate be with normal wear and tear? I hope both the Xbone and PS4 last a while.. but I worry about the toll the "always on" standby mode will take on the units. You would still need to power ARM chips and Ram constantly, no?

And what do you expect to hear from them ? We have yield problem ?

I'd hazard to say they made money over rrod

they wrote off 1 billion dollars one year over it...had to give away a whole lot of free replacement consoles...extended the warranty to three years from one too...

it cost them a lot. i think 360 is profitable, but it would be a lot more in the black if rrod hadn't happened.

RROD was due to poor engineering plus a rush for launch. Later revisions were better because they at least partly had more time to figure it out.

Just because Xbox slim doesn't have issues means nothing for Xbox one. If they rush again, and have yield issues, who knows?

It's a tweet.mthey ignore probably hundreds of them.

Which is why it's weird that they picked out this one to deny. It means they are worried about it gaining traction and having investors ask, which means they would have to answer truthfully.

It's not a road they want to go down, so a Twitter denial makes sense.

so it doesnt really matter what he says

yes - yield problems
no - yield problems
ignore - yield problems

Ding we have winner.

It doesn't matter what he say he is member of MS and does what MS tell him to. If MS have problems they will not share it, when asked by people they will deny it.

Is that hard to understand that ?

Wut r micrusaft haiding? Y u no anser kwestiuns?

Yield problems

The logic is inescapable, I won't be buying an XBone but I hope for my friends sakes that there won't be any rrod level problems.

Of course MS will deny any prduction issues. Just look to their recent past and their denials day, weeks, months after the 360 launched and had obvious issues. As well as their denials around the causes of the shortages at launch. Yield issues will never officially be made public. They weren't for the 360, they won't with the Xbone.

Microsoft: A warning from history

so it doesnt really matter what he says

yes - yield problems
no - yield problems
ignore - yield problems

Naturally people are drawing conclusions from the low supply that shops have of X1 pre-orders compared to the PS4, as they say actions speak louder than words which is more apt when it comes to Microsoft especially over the last few weeks.

I guess nobody at ms should ever comment on anything because they just lie. Perception is reality I suppose. Ms are Americans and part of a group of people called a corporation! They want money!! They must be stopped! Sony wants the best for me and has never had any rhetoric other than the pure truth. They practically give me money because they are Japanese with a sense of honor. They could in no way be greedy. They should be trusted.

Is this how you feel at all?

No one in this thread said that. You should really reduce your usage of strawman arguments if you want to make an impact.

How likely a corporate mouthpiece is to lie directly depends on how much of a risk there is of the lie being proven, and what the repercussions for that would be. Since it's basically impossible for any outside agency to conclusively prove whether XB1 has yield issues, lying about it is no big deal.

You can't ignore the facts though

I see the same thing in every damn thread. The idea is that Sony is a nobler enterprise. Maybe it is I don't know but that sentiment is only based on perception.

The entire division is under performing compared to their legacy products at the ratio of about 1 to 10.

Sure and give people fuel, possibly risking their buisness (because of drop in share value)

Microsoft has continued to make a average profit of ~$11 billion dollars each year due to their core businesses over the last decade. This is talking into account their numerous, and very expensive, failures and expenditures. Their stock price has remained pretty static overall minus the traditional post launch stock plummets.

a few neogaf members said ms has yield problems
apparently these are facts

CBOAT mentioned it and Thuway independently confirmed with his own information. Both have a history of posting accurate insider information and their interest is the fame/respect from reliably delivering accurate insider information.

Microsoft has a vested interest in denying such claims so their denials are suspect at best.

Take it for what you will.

Yes, it is and I'll explain why.

Had Phil Spencer been approached directly by a journalist, or even a gamer face-to-face, any such denial may obviously not be indicative of the truth. However, he could have ignored this tweet if he didn't want to confirm it. But he felt comfortable enough to answer it. If there is a question you're asked on social media that you do not want to answer for whatever reason, you simply ignore it.

Ignoring will not put the fears people have to rest. By answering though it will. You want to squash a negative rumour before it picks up.

The trust in Microsoft Reps is just astounding considering the last 30 days.

They told me Sony isn't a threat
They told me they'd keep DRM
They told me an "Online Required" console is good for the gamers
They told me the family plan would be awesome
They told me the "Cloud" would improve Xbox One's power by XXXX the amount
They told me the "Cloud" would improve graphics
They showed me that Killzone was coming on the Xbox

So much trust...where does it come from?

^ reading that, I must say, had XBL been hacked and been offline for a month, I just can picture Steve Ballmer making a video apolygising for the downtime, let alone bowing in front of a camera to sincerely deliver said apology.

Yes tweet of PR person is confirmation of "no yields issues". He works for MS and his job is to care about MS
PR.

I think you're posting on the wrong forum.

I don't think you are on right forum in first place.
