Can you buy maps for areas or are they all supposed to be filled by exploring?

I gotta say though, I'm loving this game. Combat thus far is much more enjoyable than 11, not to mention everything is much faster paced. Sad it's all getting wiped though.

Loving Archer still. But I'm probably still sticking with Arcanist/SMN or Scholar at first in the main game, really wanna be a SMN since I never got to be one in 11.

I'm thinking of buying this game when it launches on PS4. Will this game have an ending and will I need PS+ to play it?

Also what server should I join? :P

Heh
Is Leviathan a new server? Whatever I do, I'm ditching my old character and going somewhere where I won't be lorded over by people who thought the old game was anything but a POS.

What are you talking about? How is anyone going to lord over you? Also the "old game" could mean two very different states of a game.

I don't get why people are making legacy players out to be boogiemen. It will be the same game in the end (certainly it can't possibly hurt the low level experience, the one you are likely playing now, since you are totally independent from the economy at that point).

EDIT: Also neo-NeoGAF is weird.

EDIT: If I were to improve the combat system, it wouldn't be through adding more abilities. That would just make it harder on controller players (i.e. almost all PS3 players) who are being taxed enough as it is (from my personal experience). I prefer the idea of actions changing entirely depending on conditionals or special inputs. Something like Stone turning into Stoneskin, while only taking up the one spot on your hotbar/crossbar. I do think, if nothing else, this game could really use some cooperative mechanics (e.g. Skillchains, Battle Regimen).

I'm on Ultros server, Rock Volnutt if anyone can add my to the linkshell.

Thanks!

GO BACK TO THE MOON

Is the starting town by different jobs going to be same in the final version?

kind of weird that one town is only for Marauder, while Granadia gets lots of jobs.

Yes, it will be the same, because having a guild to go to is a big part of the the tutorial process.

And it's basically because they rushed the original game out and didn't finish Arcanist and Musketeer.

Arcanist will be added by launch, at least. But Musketeer doesn't seem to be happening any time soon because it doesn't fit into Yoshi-P's job rollout plan.

just got to lvl 10 with Marauder. enjoying the atmosphere of the game. the visual and music is very good. so if I include the last beta I have tried Lancer, Pugilist, and Marauder(only little bit of each). I will have hard time deciding which class to start when phase 4 starts.

This isn't the last weekend for the phase, is it?

EDIT: Also I unlocked guildhests way earlier on my fresh ul'dah character versus my legacy limsa character. They are at around the same place in the storyline and I still don't have guildhests for the latter. My only guess is that unlocking guildhests is tied to side-quests and I've done virtually no side-quests with him.

Can someone invite me to the GAF clan or whatever? I'm on Ultros. I don't know how to join. What is /tell? I'm on PS3.

Ytwokev Bug

Are any of the LS/Guild leaders on Ultros right now? I tried sending /tells last night but couldn't catch anyone. My guy is Velmont Seloan roaming around Gridania at the moment.

I've been on all morning. I just checked and didn't see either of you online so I couldn't invite. They should really allow you to send offline invites. :(

All members have invite permissions. If you see any other "GAF" running around, ask them for an invite. There is around 125 or so of us and I am running into people all the time. Otherwise, just try sending me a tell (Bubble Gum) and I'll send an invite your way.

Meh. I don't trust SE or even Yoshida enough to expect much beyond zerg fest, tank & spank, and protect the NPC(s). I'll believe the implementation, not the hype.

You don't have blindly trust him, they already released videos of some of the later FATEs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udwhDcDkrx8

I made this post in the beta forums. I can't believe no one else could have realized this, but I'll cross-post it here and you guys can think about it too.

Eh, while I do see sort of a problem, during 1.x it was still insanely easy to level classes to 50 despite there being less area quest + no FATEs + no Hunters Log.

It's tied to doing the initial Guildleve from whatever NPC offers it at that specific camp.

I wanna play this more, but I have already decided that I am going to buy it and Sub no matter what. I feel like I should wait till release now so I don't burn myself out on anything

I don't know if this has been answered yet but... is there a way to take screen shots on the PS3? I finally figured out how to zoom the camera in and out using the controller, now I would like to take nice pics of my character.

Hmmm...doesn't appear to be a /who command, tried using /tell and it says I've used it incorrectly. Also the Nostromo is completely boned now. When I try to use it, it starts typing instead of using an ability.

He hitched a ride on Dalamud

This is the exact joke I /told him in game the other day.

Didn't even know it was a GAF person!

Are there many people considering doing a fresh start once 2.0 releases? I played long enough to get pugilist to 50 and dabbled with the other jobs a bit, but I'm a little concerned about legacy servers and trying to start new stuff fresh from the beginning.

Even at 10%, there's still gonna be a shit load of gil floating around on those servers. Is 2.0 economy going to focus more on crafting? If so, won't the immediate influx of maxed out crafters make it tough for anyone else to get rolling?

I'm just thinking about all this stuff as someone who got one job to 50 and then stopped playing, so I'll basically be coming back more or less level 1 (because I have absolutely no freaking clue how to play pugilist now).

I agree with this. There are already too many abilities and skills that are always being used, and that's just in your own class. When you start picking up cross class stuff that is like 5 more of the short buffs that you will always be using as well.

I don't really read most of the quests and I just assumed the last one was up above. Maybe I'll pay more attention to the "story" when there's voice acting but I just don't have the motivation to care about it right now. I guess FFXI had a story too? Wouldn't know.

Well, that's weird. Just had the game hardlock on PS3.

But hey, at least I have Inns and Guildleves (whatever those are, quests at a questboard?) now.

I think I should probably wait for Phase 4/Open Beta to happen though. I don't really want to have to grind to this point again when they delete characters for Phase 4. :/

I'm def leaning toward starting fresh for a lot of the same reasons as you. I only played 1.0 for a couple months so I didn't accomplish much or make any real connections in the legacy world. I do think that the economy on those legacy worlds will be a nightmare for anyone starting out fresh. I also think that the leveling experience will be more balanced on the fresh servers, it seems to me that a huge portion of the people playing on legacy servers had most, if not all, classes at 50... which means there will probably be more summoners than everything else combined.

I would like everybody to select a nice long Chocobo Porter ride - the longer the better, then go into first-person, hide the UI and crank up the music. Your very own FFXIV attract screen!

It's my new favourite thing to do in the game.

Running around today, I came to the conclusion that I don't like the lighting in the game. Many times I got a fake feeling from the environment.
Also, despite having picked a server with a EU moniker, I feel lagged. A mob starts casting a special, I move behind/to the side/out of the area of effect and there is always a 50% chance that when the cast goes off, I still get hit.

How do I activate more hotbars? I tried looking in the options, but I couldn't manage to find what I needed to change to do it.

I'm a Legacy player who is starting fresh on a non-Legacy server. It's a new game and I want to start again from the beginning. More to the point, I have almost every job to 50 on my old character. It would be totally pointless to do the new story with forced level sync and nothing to gain plus a shitload of gil so I never have to use anything than the best available gear. It seems so pointless to play a Legacy character as opposed to starting again with everyone. And honestly I'm amazed that more Legacy players don't feel the way I do. Imagine if you could take your level capped character from EverQuest to EverQuest II. Even if you could, would you really want to?
