Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | June 2013 | Late Ports and Late Threads

I bet Mielke is now happy he didn't get the Team Ninja job he was so openly angling for during their prime haha

Yeah, Team Ninja is really a shell of their former self. If they're lucky they'll be able to keep doing Dead or Alive, IMO.

Also, I randomly got interested in that Growlanser PSP game that was released like... last year on PSN? Was it any good? I haven't even beaten Persona 4 yet but I love the character designs/art in Growlanser IV, you don't see that much these days.

Hotline Miami tonight? OMFG YES!

Also those wanting a demo....are you serious? If you really wanted to try it, whey did you people buy it with humble bundle to try it for really cheap? I think you could of payed $1 to get it....SMH.

i had assumed dragons crowns combat was shallow but its nice to hear there's some meat behind it... consider me intruiged.

gonna cop hotline tnght for sure

I was like...?

Then I read the previous page. Awesome news, about the early update. I played the hell out of Hotline Miami on PC. But it's the type of game that begs you to come back to it. It's very much a thinking mans game, so many different ways to tackle each situation. I prefer stealth myself. #Noguns4life

I haven't played any of it but for me its enough that it comes from Vanillaware. Their games are anything but shallow, and DC already looks deeper than even I expected from them.

BTW. I am the only one a bit excited by this twitter conversation from Shahid with a Type-0 fan?

I know I shouldn't read too much into it but man, it gives me hope to see he at least acknowledges the possibility of us getting the game.

Of course, if it happens, I'll also get it twice :)

Playing for two hours in VLR

getting towards the end of the game

AN ERROR HAS OCCOURED WITH VLR

shuts down.

start back up....from the beginning.

fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff

so what kind of game is hotline miami??

is it pretty much what retro city rampage should have been...but even better?
Yes I would also like for someone to explain this to me.

I'm still buying it. But I'm going in blind.

Also I'm getting optimistic about type-0!

Wish Valkyria Chronicles 3 got localized :(

Does anyone know the results of that poll Sahid was doing a few weeks back? About which jrpg would we pick to get localized for vita?

Definitely seems like he might be pursuing Type-0. I imagine Square would probably take a 'see how FF X HD goes first' approach, though.

In one way, yes, it's what RCR should have been.
The gameplay is way different, but in that sort of "throwback to classic gaming principles with a retro look and feel" it's what RCR should have been, IMO.
As noted below though, they're not even close in gameplay department.

If you watch a YouTube video of gameplay, you'll get the idea. Top down view, you enter a building and have to figure out how to get to the "target" and kill them usually. Sort of like a top down Hitman but with twitch reflex type action. One hit and you're dead.

Bonus -- he compares it to the old school GTA games and makes a good point. ;)

i believe in shahid... but i think buying ffx hd will help.

is muramasa's combat deep?

is muramasa's combat deep?

As deep as you want it to. If my memory of the Wii version serves me right, the "strongest" blades in raw attack power aren't always the best, because a weaker blade might have a way better special ability than the stronger one. Just learning the timing on stringing together aerial combos is pretty tricky!

Hey all, I just joined the Vita family yesterday with the PS+ bundle. I am loving Gravity Rush so much. It reminds me a lot of the way I felt playing crackdown.

I picked up Person 4: The Golden too but I'm almost afraid to start it because I know the time commitment is going to be crazy : )

Anything else I should nab? Is Sly Cooper good? I would love to play Jak 1 and 2 but judging from this thread it's not a good buy...

You're nowhere near the end of the game.

But that's so terrible. :/ I know it sounds silly but I remember not saving much in VLR, there doesn't seem many "natural" times to just stop and save. Maybe in the middle of a puzzle, but the game is about 70% cutscenes, and it feels so weird to just stop in the middle of a scene to save. Oftentimes, I would go 3 or 4 hours without a save, thank you suspend feature.

Yeah sly cooper is great and its cross buy (if you get the ps3 version) as well as cross save. Also I think the collection with sly 1-3 is coming to vita soon so hopefully that's good too.

Welcome to the club, Hotline Miami gets released tonight. Uncharted is cool. You need to start Persona 4 a lot of people own the system just because of that game. You might want to check out Soul Sacrifice and Muramasa (that comes out tomorrow)

EDIT: lol, forgot the quote I was replying to:
is muramasa's combat deep?

Imo, Muramasa's combat was pretty shallow in terms of moveset. Most of the variety lay with the special abilities of your sword (most of which had some variation of a spinning slash attack) and whether you were using a short or long blade. On Shigurui Mode (the one-hit death mode), using long blades becomes an exercise in frustration but the feeling of repetitiveness is counter-acted by the fact that you, well, die in one hit - making careful and skillful play a necessity.

I would suggest playing the game on Shura (hard) Mode at first to get the most of the combat system, since you'll likely end up dying if you try to button mash through the levels. Starting the game on Muso (easy) will only disappoint if you're expecting any sort of depth.

I'm super tempted to snag Hotline Miami on Vita tonight but I just have no idea how that game will control without a mouse. Might wait to hear some impressions first. If the scheme works out ok I will totally double dip.

tried it with a mouse, it definitely should work better with twin sticks...

So in terms of PS+ regions, how does EU fare against NA? I'm in Egypt, not an officially supported region anywhere, so basically I get to choose where I can subscribe again. I was subscribed to NA PS+ a few months ago, but I'm hearing EU seems to get better freebies and deals.

EU seem to get better free games, but US has better discounts and special offers like the spend $50 get $10 credit deal from a few months back.

Man, Shahid is awesome. I don't care what other people say, the man is working day/night to keep Vita alive. Bring it @ Gamescom, Shahid!

I made the argument on my last podcast that most reviewers likely didn't play the Jak and Daxter games beyond the first hour or so because they had played them previously so they just checked out how the ports were and then wrote the reviews.

Here's a video of J+D 1 about 8 hours in.

http://youtu.be/qhOlFerCF6Y

And here's J+D 3 about an hour in.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36R8qU-DPrU

Is it as good as on the ps3 at 60fps? Nope. Is it fine? Yep.

Both games start framey - I have no idea why. But once you get out of the starting areas they are just fine.

Server might be under heavy load. Or perhaps it's just your connection speed is wonky at the moment.

Just downloaded a game from steam just fine. Either heavy load/universe hates me/just a reminder that PSN sucks. They really need to overhaul before PS4 launch.

Aw man, you made me a happy man. I've still been on the fence but after seeing these vids, I'm definitely going to get the HD collection on Vita.

I'd argue against Jak and Daxter HD solely because there's only one good game in it, quality of the ports aside. You're better off paying 7.99 just for the first game on PSN.

Edit: Not to mention that the Vita version of the collection is at $26.99, where the PS3 one is $20...

The fact that they aren't selling them separately is just bizarre. That 3GB file size is so off-putting.

I would assume that it will be like most of these collections... sell as a package at first and then split it up to try to bolster some more sales down the line.

I wanted all of them so I bit now. Jak 1 is so freaking good. I don't know how i went through the entire PS2 generation without playing Jak, Ratchet or Sly. What the hell was wrong with me?

I guess lucky for me I can correct those mistakes now :)

Can't take your PS3 with you, but fair points, otherwise.

I still can't decide if I want to drop $35 on Muramasa after catching part of the new translation/localization... :\

I liked Jak 1 and all the PS2 R&C games (save Deadlocked). Never cared about Sly. The first one is pretty solid though, I enjoyed that when I played through the collection awhile back.

Looks like I'll be getting FFX on vita then.

On another note, I've got both Sly and Jak on my PS3 after a sale on PSN. I'm trying to migrate as many PS3 games as I can to the Vita to finish my backlog before the PS4 comes out. Since Jak's vita port sounds bad I've decided not to buy it but do you guys think Sly might have similar problems? I know ND did some hardcore coding for Jak but i haven't heard the same for Sly and as far as I remember, the PS3 ports were great.

Have faith. Even Wyrdwad (XSeed) has chimed in on saying that the Aksys localization is way better than the barebones stuff Ignition did.

Here in the States, they're oddly not selling them separately. :( I'd buy the first game in a second if they were.

From what I saw on Siliconera's preview, I would be skipping every word uttered by the fox geisha and the female lead. If those are that bad to me, I can't imagine the rest is good by comparison.

Keep in mind I quit the PSOne release of FFV when I realized the localization team ran Feris's dialogue through a "talk like a pirate" translator.
