Does exp scale when you switch classes? Meaning if you were a level 30 Lancer and then you switch to another class do you gain EXP at a slower rate?
Yeah, new accounts and accounts that add the PS3 version get the first 30 days free. People DLing with an existing PC account get two weeks free. One more question; are we expecting the disc to come with a month of game time or anything? Or is that purchase just installing the client?
Might as well use a new account then I guess. My old account never got legacy or anything and I planned on using a new character already.Yeah, new accounts and accounts that add the PS3 version get the first 30 days free.
You could be pretty much learn and do all the different professions as well. I believe the only thing for alts is just for different species and if you want to look like a pretty girl.

Wouldn't the new class start at level 1? And then if you switch back to Lancer you are level 30 again?

I'm a little confused regarding Classes and Jobs. Are Jobs like 'classes' from a WoW perspective? You have a Class and a job? I probably need to read a guide haha.
Cool, thanks.

Unsure about the WoW analogy, but classes are tied to your weapon. Equip a bow and you become an archer, a lance makes you a Lancer.
Aw hell no. Talk about hamstringing crafters. {No, thanks.}
Has it been confirmed that you can't meld someone else's soulbound gear? I didn't get to test melding yet.
Even if it's true, it's not a huge deal. Obtain the gear and materia you want to meld then trade them to a crafter. Let them try to multimeld. Regardless of success or failure, they can give what's left of your stuff back to you. If you're not happy with its meld status yet, don't use it--that way it stays unbound and you can have another meld attempted (gear is not BoE it's BoU--doesn't soulbind until you use it and gain EXP with it equipped). You'll just need to keep a stepping-stone piece of gear around in the meantime to use (a single meld, or a good dungeon or GC piece, for example). This actually isn't any different than 1.x--only a fool would try multimelding a key piece of equipment without a backup in case it exploded.
Good for crafters, good for people who like to SB for money, and still less hassle than failed melds exploding everything like they did in 1.x.
Lol, something similar happened to me and I had to hunt down the NPC that sold race gear because I had sold it while leveling up.I tried to become a carpenter and equipped the saw they gave me. Ended up butt naked when my class changed. Lol. Awkward.

Some games scale exp if you switch a class or respec, meaning if you switch a class you'll start at level 1 but you level slower than you would the first time.
Edit: by your answers I'm assuming it doesn't do that, which is a good thing.
There'll be stuff that's untradeable as soon as you get it but, if a piece of equipment is Soulbound at all, you can't transfer it to another player. I'm pretty sure the person melding it has to do so while you have it equipped in that case. Not really wanting to hamstring crafters, I just want to be able to do it myself and I'm not as fond of leveling a craft in an MMO. I guess if crafting is your bag, I'll be sending some additional work your way.
As for souldbound stuff, I'm curious about that too. I thought there were some untradable items in game that were bind on pick up, at least some of the rarer gear from treasure coffers.
You have to get the mount first and then talk to the Wandering Minstrel outside the GC headquarters to active the companion. I guess it'll be a later quest in the final game. The difference in Grand Company is mostly story related and some of the purchasable items have slight differences (less than in the original game apparently) but for the most part it doesn't mean anything since the big battles and dungeons unlocked through the progression are the same. Free Companies are player run guilds. Can someone explain how the chobobo companion works? I ended my time with the beta last weekend having just finished the quest to join a Grand Company, but it was 4 a.m. and I didn't find enough FATEs to get the 1,000 points needed to get a bird.
I assumed there would be some quest involved with the chocobo once you purchase that item before you can use it, which is what I figured was following people around. Does that eventually go away once you can (again, assumedly) use it as a mount? Or do you always have the option of having it help you in combat (which would be kind of awesome)?
Also, how important is picking the right Grand Company come retail? Will GAF pick one that all members should join, or does that not much matter? Seems quite a bit different than the three city-states vying for #1 each week.
Free Companies are also a total mystery to me as I haven't read much about those either.

Lol. Funny thing was, I saw two other naked people inside the guild and thought "what's up with these people?" Little did I know.Lol, something similar happened to me and I had to hunt down the NPC that sold race gear because I had sold it while leveling up.
I think running around naked frantically looking for clothes for 10 minutes is something you can't get from any game that isn't an early MMO.

No, Linkshells are like Linkshells; they're just chatrooms. Free Companies have their own achievements, can own communal housing, and earn experience bonuses for their members. They also get their own chat channel. One question i have is, whats the difference between Free Companies and Linkshells? Are Free Companies like Linkshells from FFXI and Linkshells in FF14 are somthing less?
The companion (the full size chocobo) can fight alongside you. And yeah, the Wandering Minstrel is just a sort of placeholder until they put that quest to unlock the companion.Ah, so you likely can't just roll with the companion whenever you don't want to solo things? Wandering Minstrel seems very much a beta-specific character designed to bend the rules for testing purposes.

I have been playing since phase 2...I'm having a lot of fun so far. Can't wait for next phase/open beta so I can play all day lol.
One thing though, I hate that there's no sort button for inventory, and one for armory chest too would be nice.
In 1.x or in ARR? In 1.x some items were direct-to-inventory BoP (primal weapons, for example) and items went into your loot pool (dungeon gear). From there you could either put them in your inventory or pass them to another player's loot pool. Some of these items were untradeable (essentially BoP) but some were not. You could sell or trade items not marked as Untradeable as long as they were repaired to 100%.
In ARR, at least what I've seen so far, dungeon gear isn't BoP. If you don't equip it and use it you can trade or sell it once you're out of the dungeon.
As for BoP, I didn't really check it so it could be that everything I've picked up I've also equipped. I'll have to check my inventory when the beta's back on to check some of the equipment I picked up recently in a dungeon can be traded.
It can be, as long as you didn't bind it to yourself by gaining exp while it was equipped. We traded some gear after a dungeon run on the first weekend of phase 3. At least the stuff in the first 3 dungeons, anyway.
I read several descriptions of what the base stats do. Is there seriously no base stat that affects melee accuracy? REALLY?

Let me trough a completely irrelevant and off topic idea here
Should FF XIV go to the WiiU ?
So, we know that FFXIV is going to the PS4.
And we know that all PS4 games must enable remote-play on Vita.
Does this mean we'll be able to play XIV on the go?
Is this the real life?

Not really. You need to level battle classes through the main story line in order to unlock things like airship travel, grand companies, and more. You won't need to focus primarily on battle to get far in the world of crafting/gathering, but you will have to focus on it a bit.Can anyone comment about crafting parameters for me?
Is it possible chill and progress far as a crafter, without advancing far in the main story or magic/melee class quests? Or do you need to get to higher levels like normal to open areas for gathering?
Without being able to effectively grind roaming the field, I'm put in this strange position picking my initial class/job, where it feels like my first choice is really weighty.

Reason I ask is because—based on what I've been reading—I'm kinda wary burning thru all the town/misc quests early on since those seem to be primary source of EXP. I don't want to get stuck in a slow grind later on, when I want to raise something like my beloved [unannounced] THF to cap.

I usually stuck to levequests in 1.x because of the free mats. There it was usually a bit slower than striking out on your own, but I felt it was worth it because I wasn't throwing money away to grind. And they gave you mats as rewards, which you would sell or grind with. And gil, too.
I'll miss that. Levequests in ARR don't give you free mats anymore IIRC. :\

Except it's not, since as soon as you unlock Levequests (essentially stockable daily quest allowances) like at level 10, not having quests to do for your 3rd or 4th combat class is not going to be a big deal--you'll just have to pave the road yourself instead if it being paved for you via linear quest hubs.
Unless they changed it drastically, which I don't think they have, leveling crafts is pretty quick.

And at some point you will probably want battle classes to farm materials, too. The drop rate seems to be a lot lower in 2.0 overall, but I'm guessing there will be things you'll still want to farm up.

Something about the equipment system in this game does not leave me satisfied. I like that my equipment doesn't count as "inventory". However, I can't get over the annoyance of having to open my inventory screen, then open the armory chest, then highlight each item to compare stats. As far as I can tell the only comparable stats are the basic ones. Stats like STR or DEX are not compared.
I'd love to see a +/- on the rest of the weapons stats as well. Also, possibly a DPS stat too. I played FFXI for a long time and I don't want this to become a WoW clone but I do miss the way it was easy to compare items in WoW.

Not sure that I love the system that caps how many you can take especially if it's in your best interest to log in every 8-9 hours to maximize your leve allowance. I'm probably misunderstanding something/a lot of somethings though.
Did they lower the levequest cap? Because it was 99 by the end of 1.x and people seemed pretty happy with that, and I was still running out of them when I got really into Luminary crafting.
No way...no more free mats? That made it a bit easier to level you craft skills in 1.x. I wonder why they took it out.
