Mario and Luigi: Dream Team Review Thread

Bowser inside story lets you fight harder versions of Mario's and luigi's bosses in the challenge node.

That settles it, I'm buying Bowser's Inside story (I should've brought it when it was $10 at a Pawn Shop. Stupid me D: )

I have a whole month to play BiS since Dream Team's not out in NA until August -_-

What other funny titles are on 3ds? I guess paper mario was funny at times, but more charming.

Kid Icarus Uprising practically has a sitcom always going on while you're playing.

The new Mario Golf also seems like it has unprecedented amounts of personality for a golf game.

I have been in the dark about this game. Haven't seen anything apart from what Iwata showed on the Nintendo Directs and... Oh my! The score is amazing! Really good music right there!

Why is Nintendo releasing so many good games lately? My wallet can't cope with this. Makes me a sad panda.
The darkness feels so good. Everything in this game will be a new experience for me, and I can't wait!

I'm currently working through Bowser's Inside Story which is an absolute joy. But my one complaint with that game is that my beloved Timed Hits system is gradually evolving into turning every fight into a full blown minigame, and that was my one big concern with this game, which appears to be packed with even bigger longer more elaborate special moves and sequences. This review sounds to be beaming with praise, but I'd like to hear one that addresses if the game is perhaps too cluttered and unfocused.

I think people ragging on 2/Partners In Time are wrong for that reason. It made battles complex but brief rather than extended and piecemeal. It was also more difficult for that reason (the environmental puzzles were, I guess, but negligably so). Its battles were the best of any Super Mario role-playing game.

IS THIS GAME KIND OF DIFFICULT? That is my main question.

Absolutely cannot wait. Sucks that it comes out so close to Pikmin 3, but this game will definitely be used to fill up any time I have away from home. The entire series is great, and I'd have to say Bowser's Inside Story was my favorite so far, so I have extremely high hopes for this game. So much charm/humor/awesomeness.

This looks like the most original game I´ve seen in quite a while. Nintendo has been kicking it with 3DS this year, so many great games.

Wow, better than Bowser's Inside Story? That is seriously high praise, and it only stokes my anticipation for this game that much more.

Just give me the game, Nintendo.

Just give me the game.

From the Iwata Asks thread: there is an unlockable Hard Mode. Hopefully, it doesn't mean grinding against monsters, but additional complexity.

They made the battle system too complex for its own good by adding X and Y. The plot, map, and characters weren't nearly as funny or interesting as Superstar Saga's. And the game felt like a chore because of constant tutorials; speaking of which...

It's a game that introduces a new idea, mechanic or boss fight every half an hour for around 35 hours- and that's without investing in side content

Man I hope the game doesn't feel like one long tutorial...

Eh, BiS had almost the same thing with all those stupid annoying mini games. I honestly preferred playing as Bowser over the brothers but he was hardly spared from the mini games.

I love BiS, but that game had sooooo many talkative tutorials

AlphaDream loves them some talkative tutorials. Aonuma must be ghost-producing their games.

Oh please. Zelda has never had tutorials as bad as PiT. Even the worst offender Twilight Princess front loaded that shit in the first hour. Skyward Sword made them optional. Maybe Alpha Dream helped make TP.

wow at the last negative. I have bought all the Mario and Luigi games and never experienced it as "slow". the story does take time to start and there are some tutorials but that is mostly only in the first hour. after that it takes off like a rocket.

It really starts slow. You're in the game for 2-3 hours and you're still going through tutorials on special moves, super powers etc.

Though i think it is better to introduce the facettes of the games one at a time while letting the player play the game properly already, instead of making one long and boring tutorial.

I did like how Bowser mirrored my own feelings when he got annoyed with Chippy's constant tutorials, sadly I can't see this game finding a similar way to soften the blow.

I am on the fence with this game since I wasn't blown away by Bowsers Inside story. It felt like an underwhelming RPG lite game. Once the game opened up it become a lot more fun but the humour wasn't that great (more of a Paper Mario guy). If this game somehow is better than Bowsers Inside story I will consider buying it.

This times a thousand. Minigames that aren't fun in RPGS hurts progression and pacing.

I can't tell if you're referring to Bowser's Inside Story or Partners In Time here...
Sorry, I meant Bowser's Inside Story!
Could you explain without relying on the use of bold and capital letters?

The game was brilliant in the first part, story was ok but there are too many things I disliked:

repetitive gameplay + bad backtracking
combat based too much on minigames
some mechanics felt old right from the second episode in the series
last part was just boring

Also I disliked enemies' artstyle and (almost) every part that took place inside Bowser. Now I look at Dream Team and I see the same game, with dreams instead of organs and Luigi instead of Bowser. Am I going to buy it? Maybe, but not in the near future.

Just read the NDA. The embargo gets lifted at the 12th of July (at least in Holland). I guess that's why the InsideGamer review got pulled/hasn't been published.

Yep, in Europe online reviews are NDA'd until the 12th, the day of release. Would love to talk about the game a little, but I would rather not risk to make someone angry. It's really nice so far, though.

I guess it's okay to say that it's roughly 7000 blocks (about 1GB) in size, for the people who plan on downloading it.

I already want this but I'm still holding on to the dream of a Luigi-flavoured 3DS XL pack with the game.

Come on NoE, don't disappoint me now!
