Fantastic episode. This new killer is a real sicko. Plus, I'm already loving the arc with David O'Hara. I'm very excited to see how it all goes down.

That first scene was creepy with the killer sliding out from under the bed.

And then the husband going through the ceiling from the attic was just insane.

Off to a good start and I don't think Justin is going to see Luther out.

Did they ever say what happened to Jenny? She's just gone. All that's left is the David Bowie picture she gave to Luther.

Also, I hope Mark will pop up again this season. He's a pretty chill character.

not a fan of the turn this series has taken. I've always thought of Luther as a pretty pulpy cop show. formulaic, but it pulls it off just well enough that it's awesome. (plus, the constant London rain and gorgeous cinematography certainly doesn't hurt)

but this was very very cheap horror in concept and execution—I can deal with the cheap scares, but when you devote a couple minutes per victim to really stupid kill scenes where people do stupid things, that's annoying. on top of that, the whole Ripley plot just makes no sense logically—they're going to beat a dirty cop via entrapment? I don't think that's how that works.... and Ripley switching sides at the end was even dumber—regardless of what Luther did or didn't do, the other two are the whole fucking reason why they were in that position in the first place. the only reason he did that was because Luther needs a stupid artificial impediment and Ripley needs a redemption arc. dull, played out, gimme something new—or at least do this current plot less stupidly.

don't get me wrong, it was fun. It was violent, pulpy, dark and still looks great. but I'm not a fan of the direction this has taken (and I'll be really sad if we don't get any Alice this season. she + Luther is fantastic)

Great episode.
Ripley flipped sides a little quickly (maybe...), but then again John was taking his Batman thing a bit far by hanging that guy off the side of the building like that.

yeah the horror movie stuff was lame as hell. that woman in the glass house was the most generic example of typical horror movie moron.

she had all the time in the world to call the cops AND run out the house. hell, she could have even walked out of the house. the rest of the stuff was good though.

Overall I thought that it was quite a good season opener although I am hoping that there is more then meets the eye when it comes to Justin.

One question though, why did Ken eat a grape before blending his hand?

Thought it was a really good first episode, looks like it's starting off well.

Anyone know how many eps this season has?

I'm guessing you didn't watch the trailer then?

Also, I think your worries about the series are a bit inflated - it's probably only with this specific killer that things are framed in such scare + kill scene ways to amp up the creepy factor.

- Deadline: ‘Luther’ Season 3 Debut Collars 5M Viewers On UK’s BBC One
While Idris Elba will soon be cancelling the apocalypse in Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, his cop drama Luther has just kicked off its third series on the UK’s BBC One. The first of four hourlong episodes topped Tuesday night in the ratings with 5M viewers for a 21.7% share. But according to overnight data, it was the lowest series debut in the show’s history and 600,000 viewers off from the last Luther episode which aired in 2011. Still, the return of the BBC/BBC America co-production has been well-reviewed by local critics. Stateside, the third season runs on BBC America on consecutive nights from September 3-6.

I don't understand, Justin wouldn't talk anymore to the retired cop until his rep was present, but after being choked he agreed to go along?

Justin is making a double game at least i hope, he was always loyal to Luther that won't change now if didn't change before with more dangerous situations for both of them.

I think he realised this guy isn't the kind to care about union reps. Especially since if he can implicate Luther, it's likely he can argue Justin knew or suspected things, and so at the very least ruin his career.

okay but this is still all kinds of wrong. They'd still need Justin since he's closest to Luther so they wouldn't be able to implicate Luthor otherwise. And the man trying to get Luthor for not going by the book, is using means that aren't by the book >_>

same issue with the female cop that's after luthor since last season, she's working with a guy that breaks the rules whereas she's all about following rules...

it also kinda sucks she's still after luthor after what she saw him do at the end of last season.

You mean the career that was ruined in season 1 but brought back to life in season 2 because he was loyal to Luther?

Alright, Im only beginning season 2 right now, so I'll try to stay out of this thread as much as possible.

But in the first episode, a music score is used, which doesn't return later on. Just wondering what it is called.
It starts at around 26:32, and returns a couple of times in the same episodes.

Couldn't find it on youtube or BBC one, and it's not on the official score.

Does anyone have a clue what it might be called?

so im late to the Luther party

love the camera work in this series,

watched the latest eps, then I went back to watch the whole series so far, from Season one. Just finished eps 1.

Finally got around to watching the premiere last night. The under the bed scene is distilled nightmare fuel, way more disturbing than the attic scene for me.

However the 'will it blend' scene takes the cake for me. Just thinking about it makes me shudder.

Great start to the series. It's been a long time coming.

Yeah, I cringed at that scene.
