I'm not seeing it in 3D because it's pretty clear Del Toro never intended it to be that way. Studio pressure was definitely a factor in the post-conversion.
Day 1 though. In 4K.
As I mentioned earlier, the fully CG scenes (i.e. a majority of the fights) will be native 3D since they can be rendered that way.
The film was shot using Red Epic cameras. At first Guillermo del Toro decided not to shoot or convert the film to 3D, as the effect would not work due to the sheer size of the films robots and monsters, explaining; "I didn't want to make the movie 3D because when you have things that big... the thing that happens naturally, you're looking at two buildings lets say at 300 feet [away], if you move there is no parallax. They're so big that, in 3D, you barely notice anything no matter how fast you move... To force the 3D effects for robots and monsters that are supposed to be big you are making their [perspective] miniaturized, making them human scale." But it was later announced it would be converted to 3D, with the conversion taking 40 weeks longer than most and Del Toro saying "What can I tell you? I changed my mind. I'm not running for office. I can do a Romney."
It's not that though. From wp:
The more the ILM shots arrived, the more I realized that there were only a few shots that would miniaturize. I asked the studio, number one, that we would not hyper-stereo-lize the thing. That we would not force 3D on the beauty shots. That we would keep the giant dimensions. They agreed.
Well read between the lines there... I'd still interpret it such that he is not preferring the 3D. Sounds like a compromise to me.

It was a compromise that was still in his favor - from what I understand from old coworkers who were on the project, if he didn't get the concessions he wasn't going to go forward with any of it. What was agreed upon is pretty atypical for the industry.

Alright, so Russia has its own fucking jaeger?
I don't even care anymore, this movie is going to own.
Wow....Im guessing this is THE movie to watch if Hideo Kojima gushed this much about it and hes a movie junkie

Damn that IMAX poster is pretty. Kinda want to see it the movie in IMAX just to get it.
I don't know why, but I'm all of a sudden hyped for this movie.
The same thing happened to me with Prometheus, but dear God, I hope it's better than space vagina.
Wow !
Kojima REALLY can't express his ideas in a small way ! =P
has anyone posted the B-roll?http://youtu.be/SIXoItCtdEw
saw a piece of it and turned it off, i usually dont like seeing behind the scene stuff until it comes out on blu ray. even then i dont usually like doing that as it usually destroys my perception of the films but i always watch GDT's behind the scenes.
I need the Jaeger figures in my veins..now.
I'm buying both, or at least Gipsy Danger first.

Any word on when those figures are gonna hit the UK if at all?

Eureka in series 2
I will grab just Gipsy Danger and a Kaiju, to put them in pose![]()
After looking at the figures, I think Crimson Typhoon is actually the most beautiful.
I agree. In any case it's the most posable and articulated.
hmm, I don't have toys/action figures of anything at all, not even posters. I must sound like the most boring guy ever. I didn't own any growing up either (at least posters), all the toys I had were cars and a couple of action figures.
In my defense my parents were religious nuts and never allowed me to put up any posters.

Treat yourself, then. =) Nothing beats the smell of a figure fresh out of the package. Or still in the package, if you're one of those types.
Augh...
I need this on my shelf yesterday. Between this, the Sideshow collectible figure and the 2nd Striker poster I have ordered, my dwelling is going to look like a shrine to that beautiful machine.
