What I mean is that hand up anyone who seriously believes that the reason Nintendo hasn't put out something iconic and accessible, innovative and mainstream (like Wii Sports was) on Wii U is that they first want to establish their gaming credentials through more traditional styles of games, that they have been sitting on that innovation all this time
Occam's razor says they simply haven't gome up with that killer idea yet

NFC is good prediction which did not immediately come to mind while reading the OP. I always thought Nintendo had something big planned for that feature to really show its significance. The Pokemon Rumble game did not exactly live up to my vague expectations. We'll see...

NWF does have a lot of potential for developers to develop stuff fast, but I highly doubt Nintendo will be using it for games all that much if at all.

hardcore any gamers. it's a new secret game. hardcore gamers don't like new things. if Kinect, motion controls and the Wii- line up of games makes you excited like nothing else, then whatever they have planned will probably excite you. if nintendo is keeping it a secret, its obviously a mass market product with high sales potential. otherwise they'd just spill the beans at e3

Oddly enough this may fit with Nintendo's announcement of changing their marketing curve before E3. From their perspective, what they're doing probably makes more sense.

absolutely. the "thing" was asymmetrical gameplay and they couldn't make the sell on that.
new types of games is good though... i'm curious, anyway. for all their talk of surprises, there hasn't been software that really justifies that controller yet.

This is my hope also. But evidence says otherwise, they have been using a similar input setup since 2004, so coming up with something groundbraking now seems highly doubtful.
But the idea isn't new or doesn't necesarilly needs a screen in the controller to implement

A skylanders style pokemon spinoff would end the world... But I'm assuming they mean something like "nintendoland failed to instantly sel the gamepad like wii sports sold the remote so we need another concept to pitch the thing with."

i think most rational people would assume that the "Wii U" is going to follow the "Wii" strategy, which would involve releasing their planned hit right in the middle of the introduction of next-gen consoles - during the period where nintendo suddenly becomes the best value proposition. i think you're a bit of a fanatic if you think they'd try this while they're the most expensive console on the market.

I am a bit excited as they are very secretive, so we may be looking at some type of innovation that they want to caught everyone off guard, really hope for something for the sake of the Wii U, really love this system and I want it to flourish.

It's not so lousy when you look at history and how often Nintendo has been copied on by its rivals.
I don't think it should be a MMO, but something else. Not sure what Nintendo are waiting for. If Activision can do it with Skylanders, Nintendo would make a killing with Pokemon figures. Put the NFC chip in the Wii U gamepad to good use Nintendo!

but everything nintendo does is copied, now even faster then ever. how is something very real like this an excuse? especially since promises of games don't appear to move consoles anymore like the old days. i don't see the benefit of them telling us about these games other than to let people like us argue about it sooner
